Let's face it: for most of us, a sewer or septic system is something that should stay out-of-sight and out-of-mind; but eventually a day will come when something needs to be done. Hopefully that something is minor, but if not, there's McNally Engineering. We were getting ready to sell a house in Alpine NJ, a town which does not have sewer systems. The buyer's inspection showed areas of concern, so I called a different septic company (which has a large presence in Bergen County) to obtain an estimate. This company did not do installation work, so they referred me to McNally. I called McNally, explained the situation, and emailed them the buyer's inspection and the documents from the last septic installation, which had been done in 1988. We set up an appointment for December 2013. The engineer came out along with workers to assist, and did a complete inspection of the black water system (digging up the tank covers, pumping out the tanks, probing and evaluating the tanks, measuring the water levels, running water in the house to see how the water levels changed, etc.) They discussed what further evaluation was needed, and the potential repairs that might be needed. Then, they investigated the gray water system, could not get enough information, and had to schedule further work (bringing heavy equipment to dig up the lawn to locate the tank for assessment.) Along the way, everything was explained to me and my questions were answered. McNally came up with a design for the repairs to the black water system, and for replacement of the gray water system. They obtained bids for the work, coordinated with the town on plans and permits, and submitted the proposals to me. Once we agreed on the contract ? and the weather cooperated ? they had the work completed quickly. I was thrilled to receive the approval from the Borough of Alpine. The work was very expensive, but it needed to happen to sell the house. Expertise is worth paying for. I would definitely use them again.
