It went well.  He actually pulled up carpet and put down a new hardwood floor for us.  He was finished in June 2014.  I did pay more.  The total bill, it came to additionally about $1900.  We were satisfied with the work but the overall it could have been more precise.  He left the area quite well.

Deal was eight hours of work by one man or four hours for two men.  Two men came and installed new stairs which I had to pay for separately.  They worked for 1-3/4 hour, times 2 men.  When I asked them about rest of time the owner J Campo said they would come back and provide services for the remaining time.  When I called him he said that the deal was a bad deal and he felt as though he had worked enough and refused to come back.  I have detailed email messages between he and myself if you would care to read them.
Response from J Campo Contracting LLC
"Member is wrong about big deal 1 man 8 hours or 2 men 4 hours. It took 15 minutes getting stairs in van that morning so that adds up to 2 guys 30 minutes. It took 2 guys 1 3/4 hours removing old and replacing new stairs and that adds up to 3 1/2 hours plus 1/2 hour = 4 hours with 2 guys. Member is right when I said that the big deal was a very big mistake for me and I would never do again."

The bannisters arrived pre-cut, sanded and varnished, ready to install.  Joe had also bought the hardware needed for the job.  When I was unsatisfied with the placement on the wall, he cheerfully re-situated them.   The exterior repairs are adequate to make the steps safe till next spring.  All work was tidy; well-done; and there was no mess left behind.  Our only problem was the issue of having to wait for Joe to do other jobs, but we had our own share in delaying the process.  He responded to phone calls,  not necessarily  in a day or two, but he always responded.  It was a Big Deal so price was not an issue.  I felt he showed integrity and a straightforward style that was refreshing.  I would hire him again.

We bought a "$299 General Contractor for a Day" expecting that we would get the full 8 labor hours of remodeling work.  We showed Joe the kitchen having purchased everything needed for installation and left it with him to complete the job.  After about 5 hours, he called  to say he was done with the countertop installation.
When we went to the site several days later, we saw that  in removing the old countertop, Joe had broken through the side plaster walls leaving large holes.   Although some damage to the sidewalls might be expected, Joe simply nailed in a piece of greenboard and told us we could fix it with patching tape and plaster and then repaint that area to match the kitchen walls. The counter top was uneven, the seam was wide, and the counter had been cut too short. Joe had not removed any of the old countertop debris.
My husband spent several hours repairing the plaster walls using mesh tape and spackle and  he also grouted the gap between the wall and counter.  When called,  Joe did agree to come back to level the uneven countertop.
The contractor should not have left the job early.  Instead he should have spent the contracted time to fix what he had damaged and leave the job in a workmanlike fashion.   We  certainly did not expect to have to spend a Sunday afternoon being our own  "handyman" for the "handyman."

"This Member Did not provide me with a counter top which was just over 9 feet. But instead gave me 2 smaller counter tops in which one I had to cut. In removing the old counter top there was a hole on the left side from the back splash. I had sheetrock and lumber in my van so I provided the material to fill hole but did not have spackle. Member to supply all materials. In the installation of counter top owner provided to pieces of wood so badly warped to set the 2 seperate counter tops on and i tried my best to work with what was provided. As far as debris I am not responsible. I cut hole for new sink and connected all new plumbing for sink so member did not have to hire a plumber and pay any more money."

We purchased the $299 deal, General Contractor for a day. Right from the beginning Joe was very responsive and professional. He was very accommodating to our schedule since we were traveling and had several commitments over the winter.  The work we were looking to have done was having all the molding replaced as well as add crown molding and a chair rail to our entryway and hallway.   He explained that the amount of work we needed would actually take 2 days and would require an additional person.  The price and timeline seemed very reasonable. We were also responsible for purchasing the moldings which I liked because we were able to shop around and find the patterns/styles we like.  Joe was very good with cleaning up after each day and the work came out beautiful.  We are very happy with his work and look forward to using him again!

Their fee's were way out of reach so they gave me a quote. The quote was to put in 2 sliding doors in the back of my patio. The price was exorbitant he quoted me only for labor at $6800 and this didn't include the materials which ranged between $2000 to $4000 so it would have gone beyond $10500. Interactions were OK he was a decent guy. We had some emails going back and forth and he came out within 2 weeks.
Response from J Campo Contracting LLC
"Before I could install #2 8 foot sliding doors I must remove interior cabinets as well as exterior brick wall spanning length of kitchen. Then #2 6 foot windows as well as existing door. You cannot replace # 2 8 foot doors under existing 6 foot headers. You have to build a temporary wall inside and remove the whole exterior wall and Frame wall to support load for new 8 foot doors. This Also calls for a Architect to engineer beams for building department permits. Lastly I have to finish walls entire as well as exterior which these materials are included in my price Except Doors Home owner to supply and contractor to install. This is not a job I can do for $299.00 in 8 hours I hope owner gets a least #2 more quotes from #2 more contractors a least because my customers tell me for the most part my price was in the middle out of #3 estimates Licensed by the state of New Jersey."

J Campo contracting went above and beyond the call of duty in helping us renovate our two bathrooms. Initially we only hired them to do one bathroom but as that renovation progressed and we saw their attention to detail and ultimately the final product, we immediately signed them up to renovate our 2nd bathroom.
Joe and Raul were great and super professional. There were a few things that we wanted to change in mid stream as the work progressed and Joe was super accommodating by either offering up good suggestions as alternatives or agreeing to make the change with a smile.
Although it took them longer than anticipated with the changes, plus some minor issues they came across once they gutted the bathroom to the studs, the estimate he gave us in the beginning, is the final price that we paid.
Not only is J Campo contracting good, but they are also honest and straight shooters.

After some trouble with communication, Joe came out to look at what needed to be done on a Monday and then called back a week and a half later to see if he could come and do the work the next day, a Saturday. That worked for me so Joe and his helper Jose came right on time the following day. One door was not as easily hung as the other two, it was and is tight fit. They finished quickly and cleaned up well after themselves.

All went smoothly from making the appointment to completion. I initially contacted Joe in mid-winter and since the work needed to be performed outside, we had to wait for warmer weather. I was in hurry to get the work done, so once it got warmer I asked Joe if he could squeeze me in between a couple of larger jobs he said he had scheduled. True to his word, when the temperature was expected to be above 45 degrees, Joe called me to see if I would be available in the afternoon of that day.  Joe and his assistant, Raul, showed up at 2 pm and completed the work very efficiently and neatly in a little over an hour's time (Joe had also made an earlier visit several weeks before to take photos and scope out the degree of wood rot, so he came with the correct materials he needed). I will certainly use them again. Joe and Raul are easy to work with and seem to work very well together. I would highly recommend.
