When we originally spoke, we had 40 years of things collected in our basement that they agreed to haul away in a dump truck as the first step. When the job started they started to put the items out on the curb for the township garbage trucks to pick up. We told them it was way too much for the garbage trucks and wasn't what we originally agreed upon. They said "ok, we'll just put it in your driveway then". I said no, their next suggestion was to put it all in our garage for a couple of days which we also disagreed with. They did end up hauling it away because I said they had to honor what we agreed upon.
Without getting permission from us or our neighbors they dumped gravel to create the new french drain and the debris from or old french drain and parked the dump truck all in our neighbor's driveway. They also put the jack hammered cement from the basement in a pile against the side of our neighbor's house. All they had done was ring the front door bell, they had decided the property was abandoned when nobody answered. We have a driveway yet they didn't ask us to use it. When we asked them about it their response was very defensive and basically amounted to; "we didn't have any other place to put it". They didn't apologize but did say they would remove the gravel and clean the driveway. I had to go out and monitor this and make sure it was cleaned up completely.
During the waterproofing further damage was done to our personal property. My father built for me 40 years ago a built-in workbench in the basement which was 9 ft. long. They cut a third of it away without even asking or mentioning it. When bringing it up they sarcastically said "do you want us to build you a new one". We would have figured out a way to move the work bench if they had discussed this with us. They had no regard for our personal property.
The sump pump had to be placed in a different corner of the basement. However, our old sump pump drained to an underground pipe that led directly to a storm drain. They had to know that because they took the old sump pump out and see it attached. However, instead of attaching to the underground pipe they were going to have the water discharge onto the lawn 4ft from our house. When we explained that it was not acceptable and that it does need to be connected to the pipe, they did agree to that. They did agree to have it connected to the in-ground pipe.
Another complaint I had was that they were smoking outside and threw cigarette butts out all over our lawn and driveway. We complained and they said they would stop. They haven't stopped and are still doing it today. We even gave them a container to put their cigarette butts which they refused to use.
Their lack of communicating changes and information that we should have had was unprofessional and distressing. The damage to our personal property was so unacceptable, and they never spoke to us about it they just did it.
