What you do not know about this facility is extremely detrimental to your beloved pet. Emergency visit initially appeared promising with a treatment plan, my pet was left to linger 3 days with an open wound inside her mouth while my initial $2,000 mandatory deposit dwindled to $0. On day 3 the dr called saying my pet needed to be transferred to a surgeon capable of performing the surgery they said they could do. I transported my pet to Red Bank, where they performed surgery within an hour of my arrival. I would have respected Newton Emergency Vet had they initially admitted they were not capable to provide the necessary care they promised.

I purchased a spaying certificate through Friends Of Animals, which listed this place as one of two vets in the area accepting FOA certs. The first time I called to schedule, they told me I had to come up with over $200 for various other things before they’s perform the surgery. I waited for months and tried to save up the money to no avail. I scheduled shots cheaper at a PetSmart clinic. I called them back to see if I could afford the surgery I ALREADY PAID FOA FOR. They said I had to come up with another $131 and change first. I gave up on this place. I am taking my pet to a vet in Hunterdon County that will take the FOA certificate and not charge me additional fees that I can not afford to pay. This VET uses FOA certificates as bait to get you in the door so they can charge you too much for other things, and you won’t save anything getting your pet “fixed” there with a certificate from FOA. I am getting my pet’s surgery done somewhere else, and my pets will NEVER set a paw in this place, ever.

I don't typically write reviews, however, I am absolutely disgusted with my experience at Newton vet hospital and I need to speak my mind. My dog was hit by a car 3 weeks ago and we took him here because they were the nearest and only option for our home. We thought we were taking him to a wonderful vet, however, we were so wrong. After making us wait hours for an update on him, we were quoted almost $4000 for them to exam him and put a cast on his leg. The receptionist, not doctor, said that surgery may be a possibility, however, it was never specifically recommended to us. We picked him up, took him home, and paid the ridiculously overpriced bill. They asked that we get his xrays 2 weeks later to see the progress of the healing. We did the followup, and his xrays were worse. Not only had his leg not healed, but it also got increasingly worse. At that point, we were advised to see an orthopedic surgeon who would be quoting us approx. $7000 for a procedure that was never even recommended to us. THANK GOD, we found an amazing animal hospital with a fantastic surgeon who was able to do the procedure for $2500. Not only did they do an amazing job, but the entire procedure, medication, xrays, and exam came to $2400, which was literally half of what we paid for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON at Newton Animal Hospital. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE.

I understand that it's expensive to have 24-hour care, but....wow. The bill was $4000+ for 4 days with no surgery or expensive meds. We love our pets as family (as most everybody does) so we're vulnerable for any charge when they're ill, and I think this clinic knows people will pay anything to help pets in distress. After paying all the upcharges for 24-hour access (which I understand) they charged us $575.00 for exactly the same consultant's (Dr. Eric Lindquist) ultrasound - done on the same machine by the same technician - that our regular vet charged us $446.00 for the week before. I believe the care is good, but there's an exam fee ($59.50), an emergency fee ($60.00), an intensive care fee ($97.70), a general health profile fee ($197.89), a blood pressure check fee ($52.89) and many, many more that are billed over and over. When you review the charges prior to giving the okay for treatment (which I absolutely did, they never lied to me) all the charges seem reasonable until it occurs to you much later that when your own doctor charges an office exam fee, the blood pressure and health profile are included, but not at this vet hospital.

Everyone we dealt with was very nice. However, the only person we saw twice was the doctor and between each person, we were made to wait 20 - 30 minutes. The doctor examined our dog and 30 minutes later, another person came in with an estimated bill of $850! They had every imaginable test on the list and the total included a "blank amount" for "miscellaneous". Obviously I balked at that cost and told them there was no way we could afford such a bill. About 15 minutes later, she came back with a bill for $340 - plus "miscellaneous" and I was told it could be less - depending. So I signed off on the estimate. Then we waited a full 30 minutes when I opened the door to the back and asked if someone could please start drawing blood for the tests or something? We had already been there well over 2 hours. The blood tests were done and we were give some medicines to give the dog and a bill for $532.63! That's almost $200 more than the 2nd estimate, which we were told could "possibly be less". We had no choice but to pay the bill. Thank goodness my dog wasn't really sick! I will not go back there under any circumstances. I'd rather make the trip back to my less overpriced Vet in New York City. I just hope that the amount we paid was put toward one of the doctor's children's college tuition bills. Outrageous!

I wouldn't have any problem recommending Newton Animal Hospital to one of my fellow pet owners. They are pricey, yes. But that is what it costs to staff and run an essential round-the-clock operation. They are good about explaining charges in advance, and laying out essential information for you to make a wise decision. Most recently, my dog developed a condition that required surgery. NAH told me what they would charge on the emergency basis; suggested my regular vet would probably be less expensive, and said that waiting the three or so hours till my vet could see her would not be a problem. This was good, honest information, and I appreciate the professionalism represented by the manner in which they handled our case.

The cat, Rogue, was very well behaved for the initial blood draw. He was given a physical, and when the blood tests came back negative, he received his inoculations. Rogue stayed overnight, as he was to be neutered the next morning. There was a problem during the surgery, which required the Veterinarian to call me and get approval for the work that needed to be done. One testicle had not descended, and required going into the abdomen to find and remove it. If it had stayed in, there would have been a high risk of cancer. He will be going back to remove the stitches, and receive the secondary Distemper inoculation. When the appointment had first been set up, the hospital informed me of a group that gives financial help with the costs of spaying and neutering-I bought one of these certificates, which reduced the cost of the procedure. If the hospital had not given me this information, it would have cost much more.
I have had other work done at Newton Vet; from shots and claw-trimming, to the sad affair of letting an animal go. They have a quiet room for this, which helps in that sad time. I am very glad the this veterinarian hospital is available-I would not think of using any other.

This is my vet. Last night I had to pay for an emergency visit. My dog has bulging discs in her spine and they were starting to bother her again. Dr. Cha recognized us as we'd seen her for quite a few emergencies over the years. We were taken care of as always. I travel 30 miles to use this practice and highly recommend them. The price is a fraction of what I pay in town and I can drive the 30 miles, be seen and drive back in less time than it takes at the practice I used to frequent. I have another dog with diabetes and have to go there quite a lot. Kudos and thanks a bunch!

Cat had bloody diarhhea in middle of night. Called hospital in AM and told me I can bring her in now and explained th emergency fee for Sunday hours upfront. Waitd 2 hours to be seen as they had more important emergencies com in around the same time. Technition and vet were super nice, informative and professional. They all seemed to enjoy their jobs and love animals.

They are 24 hours a day 7 days a week and 265 days a year. We have been there at 2 in the morning. The lights are on the vets are there and the techs are there. If you wouldn't look out the window you would think it was the middle of the day. I have a 15 year old dachshund that has had medical problems, but I am always very confident that she is being watched by a vet day or night. They are not cheap.

They do transfusions and if your dog has surgery, vets don't usually keep them over night so you can take them over there and you know someone will be with them all night. They are absolutely full-service and they are open 24/7. I was recommended to them by my vet. I had had two dogs who were elderly and I didn't want them to stay at a regular kennel so my vet recommended them. While he was there, he was acting funny so they took him in the vet in the middle of the night. It was perfect. The kennel staff is absolutely fabulous. They are very caring; really great people. They are caring, wonderful people and the animals get great care. They can give them a bath; its a great facility. I think their price is good.

I am from out of town new to the area. The vet did have files faxed from my old vet. There were two girls behind the desk. I informed them of my name and my needs. I was very positive about this place after reviewing it on the internet. As a note it is not the most near vet to my home either. The girl stated that I need a prescription for the food. I informed her I know. I also informed her that I was totally out of their dry dog food. She said that she didn't have a prescription so no food. At this point she did not look for the hard copy file, but she was very rude in tone and statement. Now my old vet was closed until Monday, I thought maybe obtain a small bag of dry food and they could call my old vet for a prescription. The girl seemed not to want to bother and the other girl next to her didn't even bother getting involved. The girl finally said to me let me look for your file (hard copy). She found the prescription in the hard file. Her attitude changed to being freindly and overly helpfull. I thanked her for her assistance and departed. I have no intention of going back for true services. They are a 24 hour service hospital, I could only wonder what their services-medical and otherwise were like. I feel when a Vet or service gets too big they really do loose the service and you become a number. Just as a side note, although the Hills brand of dog food requires a prescritption it is only because only vets can sell the products. There is no medicine involved, or etc. All it is simply is a dry dog food for pets with alergies.

We've gone here for 20 years. He is very bright, knowledgeable and he goes the extra mile to research things. We've had unusual problems with some of our animals. Their prices are high.

THE OVERALL EXPERIENCE WITH THEM IS GOOD. I HAVE USED THEM FOR A FEW YEARS NOW. IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY, THEY ARE PRETTY GOOD TO GET US IN TO BE TREATED. I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO OTHERS.
