"The estimate and signed contract between Mazzilli Mason Contractors and The [Member Name Removed]'s was a "Front Step and Masonry work" project. We would be working on the front steps as well as doing some porch work and lasting re-setting a few pavers in front of their garage as clearly stated in their SIGNED contract. While we were there, the [Member Name Removed]'s decided they wanted to add a walkway to their job because the transition from the steps to the landing area would look better than if the walkway wasn't done. That is where the additional charge came in. There was no bait and switch. Furthermore, the walkway was given to them at a discounted price since we were already there doing the step work. Also stated in their terms and conditions on their SIGNED contract is a statement regarding the railings. It reads: NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR RAILINGS. Before the job was started it was made more than clear to the [Member Name Removed]'s that we would not be doing any work with the railings. In regards to the splotches, they were not present when we completed the job and were not brought to our attention till 2 weeks or more (you need to wait at least 2 weeks before putting railing up in new steps) after we competed the work and the railing company had put up the railing. The splotches could not have been created with anything we used to work on their steps with. In an attempt to ease the [Member Name Removed]'s concern about their damaged steps we sent out our crew again to their home where it was confirmed that we indeed did not leave splotched on their steps. Mazzilli Mason Contractors apologizes for not being able to help the [Member Name Removed]'s more but it is unfair to expect us to do substantial additional work for free."
The demo went quick, and the only delay was in waiting for the township to inspect the excavation for the new footing. The crew was friendly and zinged right along. The steps are beautiful. They cleaned everything and left their work area spotless.
I'll be asking them to do more work.

So, John the owner of Mazzilli Mason Contractors, called me direct last week, much to my surprise. He said he wanted to me, he saw the review on Angie's List. He was unaware that there were problems with the install he had done. When i joined Angie's List they asked me all the contractors I've used in the past, his company was one of them. The work was done in 2005, since then a lot of changes were made with his company, growth and improvements. As with any company some small items fall through the cracks. My main issue was simple, however it still fell through. In the short time between his first contact and completed repairs I am shocked that they were done so fast. The semi circle that was placed in front of a back door originally was not centered, it is NOW. He even took the time to repair a side of the patio rolling onto the yard, over a period of 9 years they tend to move a bit. Thank you, John and Thank You, Tom for addressing this thorn in my side...
"Mazzilli Masonry has no recollection of this person. Please have Angie's List contact Mazzilli Masonry ASAP to address this unfounded review."
Our problems can be summarized in several specific points:
a. After the workers left, a reasonably close inspection showed that the job was sloppy. However, the lead person on the job indicated that he was a "supervisor."
b. The second person was not competent, and spoke little or no English. This might have been acceptable if the "supervisor" had not left for a number of hours, or had carefully reviewed the other person's work. This guy did very little while waiting hours for the "supervisor's return."
c. Getting an estimate took multiple phone calls and it arrived somewhat later than requested.
d. The estimate was professionally written, but required most of the payment "up-front." It was definitely high for the quality received.
e. Tommy came by several times, primarily to communicate with the workers, but never really looked at the work. He did speak to us once, but perhaps we were distracted by his good personality, and said that we felt the job was OK.
f. It took roughly 8 back-and-forth calls between ourselves and Tommy or his office assistant in an unsuccessful attempt to get someone to come over and take a look.
g. During this period, Tommy indicated that he had come over once and had rung our door bell. We assume that he did, but we were not at home at the time. He said nothing to indicate that he had looked at the job.
h. Weeks went by, and by winter we gave up. We have never heard from Mazzilli again.
i. If intended, no response from Mazzilli is required. We have just had a good job done by another mason.
