I have a 30 year old Sub-Zero model 550 that needed repairs twice in the last 3 months and Joe Battaglia (Certified Refrigeration) came through for me both times with flying colors. The first time I called Joe's tech Paul showed up right on time, had the problem (compressor) correctly diagnosed in 10 minutes, gave me the estimate, had the part in his truck and had my Sub-Zero up and running in under two hours. The second time I called (3 months later) Joe sent his tech Chris out and he too arrived right on schedule, quickly identified the problem (coil & fan motor) gave me the estimate, had the parts in his truck and had my Sub-Zero up and running, once again, in under two hours. Joe, Chris, Paul... true professionals (knowledgeable, courteous & personable)...not cheap but are worth every penny and then some.

Great but expensive due to Subzero part cost. Still, it was a lot cheaper than a new Subzero. John was a straight shooter and good at what he does. He was quick, clean and efficient. I recommend him highly

They responded immediately, but basically said that those units "were not worth the bother of repairing" and suggested I go elsewhere. I explained that we could not afford to replace the units, but was essentially told to buy new units.

I would definitely use them again.  He was very responsive and professional.  This is a blind item, but I felt that he knew what he was talking about and was friendly and knowledgeable.  In addition, he cleaned up after himself!
The cost was much more than I had anticipated, but the replacement of this refrigerator is very costly, so I thought it was worth doing.  Only time will tell.

Joe was very punctual. I had left word on Saturday, and he was out first thing Monday morning.
He removed the refrigerator inside top panel and back panel and found that the Sub-Zero factory repairman had left the hole between the refrigerator compartment and the compressor compartment un-caulked when he had run the new thermostat wire through it. That was allowing the outside air to enter the refrigerator compartment .
Joe called me again two weeks later to ask how it was doing, and I told him, and quot;great!and quot; and thanked him.

They were very responsive, determined to fix our problem and on time for all appointments. Although the cost was large, it saved us from the need to replace our built in Sub-Zero refrigerator.

I have a 632 Subzero refrigerator, about 6 years old. It starts leaking at the bottom for a week, also the ice maker stopped working for about a month. I did some research online, It seems it's a quite common problem. As an Angie's list member, I did a search there and found the company called Certified Refrigeration, the review is pretty good and they specialized in subzero repair. I called them on the morning of July 2. in half an hour, the technician Eric called back and told me he can get to my house in 20 min. I'm happy at this point that they responded pretty quickly. As promised, Eric came on time with all the parts. Once he learned about the problem, He started to take stuff out from my refrigerator, he also turn off the ice maker, took things apart, and told me that I need to replace the evaporator coil, He claimed that once it's replaced, I shouldn't have any leaking problem. the cost is $1400. As for the ice maker problem, he told me that the refrigerator is too heavy and too big for him to pull out himself, I need to hire professional mover, He said he can refer me one if I don't have one. the cost is about $500. I don't want to spend so much money to fix the ice maker, so it's left unfixed. I asked him to go ahead replacing the evaporation coil. After he left for about half hour, I noticed water leaking at the bottom again, even worse then before, I called him, he said it may be the problem causing by the ice maker. I need to hire people to move the refrigerator without damaging the floor. I don't feel it's right. He told me there should be no more leak after replacing the evaporation coil. After spending $1400, He didn't fix the problem, now he suggested me to spend another $500 to hire mover, That doesn't sound right to me. I asked if the company's owner John there, he said John won't be back until Monday July 7. So I said I'll wait for John. On the morning of July 7, I called the company again, it's the answering service, about 10 mins later, Joe called and he said he is the father of John, he is the owner of the company. I explained the problems, he agreed to come later to check himself. After he came, he decided to unplug the wire of the ice maker to avoid this to be turned on by accident, he said after the residue of water from ice maker all gone, I shouldn't have any leaking problem. After he left, again I found water leaking at the bottom. I told him and he came later, this time he shuts off the water valve that goes into the ice maker, finally it stopped leaking problems. I'm glad that after all the trouble, they solved the problem, but I don't feel the leaking is caused by evaporation coil. I wasted $1400 to replacing the part that didn't cause the leaking problem, and I still have a broken ice maker.
Response from Certified Refrigeration

"[removed member name], We have been a very responsible service company for over 38 years, that is why your searches led you to calling and contracting us for service on your Sub-Zero. I understand your frustration, however you had dual issues with your Sub-Zero, as many do. One of these issues, a connection leaking on the back end of Sub-Zero was overlooked (in part because we can't see behind your Sub-Zero and an ice-maker can leak in many, many different ways). I myself was even flummoxed by this issue. That is why on 7/7 when I personally took the time out to come back to your home twice in the same day, I felt that the best course of action would be to cut water of the unit completely to stop the leak indefinitely until a permanent solution could be achieved by pulling the unit out of the wall (something we do not do in situations where permanent damage is inevitable.) As for your permanent solution which we have already discussed, You need to hire a professional installation crew to remove the Sub-Zero without damaging your wood floor or kitchen. We will pay for this for you. Once the unit is out of the wall we will replace the parts at our cost. Thank you [removed member name], we look forward to resolving your issue. Give us a call and we will set you up with an installation crew. -Joe Battaglia"

The owner, John, from Certified Refrigeration is the one who came out the next day after I called him. He had everything I needed in his truck so he could run out and grab it. He even put in a little something extra in for me because he was worried about it failing in a couple months and didn't want me to have to call him back. He was honest, pleasant, and personable. It took him an hour and he gave me the Angie's List special after I mentioned Angie's List. The price is expensive but fair.

My Sub Zero Refrigerator stopped cooling. First the refrigerator and then the freezer.
Three days earlier, I had an appliance person from another company come to look at it but he told me he would have to order a part. I started looking for parts online when I came across Certified Refrigeration.
I didn't realize until later they were listed on Angie's List. I called the Essex County location, they have 9 other locations in these counties: Bergen, Middlesex, Monmouth, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Union and Westchester.
My call was returned by Joe within minutes. I explained the problem to him; and he said his technician, John, would be at my place within the hour and would call me when he was on his way. John called me back within 10 minutes and arrived less than 20 minutes later.
John looked over my 20 year old SubZero and diagnosed the 3 problems. He explained what each part did and what he needed to do to fix it. He also told me what parts were still good and in excellent order. He had all the parts in his truck and went right to work. He was very pleasant and courteous, answered all my questions and cleaned up after himself. Most importantly my SubZero works and it happened in the same day! Yeah!!!
I would definitely use Certified Refrigeration again and recommend to anyone with a SubZero fridge to call these guys first!
