The booking was easy and the tech was on time. He did what I was expecting, to open the system up. However, while a number of the heads were not turning and would need to replaced, he provided me and my wife with an estimate for $700 to replace 7 total heads!! He said, because we have well water, they'd recommend using heads that include steel, so they are $65 each, plus he added $15 to "lower" the heads based on newer standards with sprinklers. This was way more than I wanted to spend and also $400+ more than an estimate I then received from another company to do the same work using sprinklers of the same quality but not replacing all 7, instead replacing just 4. The cost per sprinkler head was more in the $35-$40 range.
I'm sure Royal irrigation knows what they are doing as far as sprinklers, and I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but the second estimate has me thinking that they are overpriced. They also didn't seem to want to work with us to find something that worked in our budget, unlike other vendors.
"I read your comment regarding our service. To clarify our pricing, our technician included stainless steel heads with a five year warranty because he thought you would have more long term success with this equipment. I reviewed the paperwork, which did not indicate this but Jerry explained he told you this during the appointment. He could have offered you a $45 rotor, had you mentioned that this was not what you were looking for. We strive to provide value and outstanding service."
"According to our records, we haven't been to this property this year. Perhaps, this was meant for another provider."
"Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We came out to your property to do the summer check up, but the system did not work. We did an evaluation and assessment of your system and provided you an estimate to repair it. The cost for the service call and providing that assessment, was actually more than the cost of the deal you had purchased. If you would like to have your system repaired this year, we would be happy to do that for you."
- Checking for line leaks, dry areas, and broken sprinkler heads
- Cleaning and adjusting clogged nozzles
- Checking rain sensor operation
- Setting controller for proper watering time and duration
- Adjusting all heads and rotors for most efficient coverage
- Checking up to six sprinkler zones
The technician who came did just the first and the last one on the list above. He just walked around briskly, "inspected" each sprinkler head, looked for leaks and left a sign by each one that needed further attention. The problem, however, was, it wasn't easy communicating with him, he seemed rude at times, didn't bother to say a word or explain what the problem was. I had to follow him literally to each sprinkler head and ask him "what about this? Is this one okay?" Even then he would stay mum, say little, or just point to the ground and say "see?" What was I supposed to see? the broken head, leak around it, nozzle malfunction, raiser damage? Did it require a raiser seal or a new sprinkler head? Imagine asking him the same questions after following him to each single sprinkler head (and still get no satisfactory or comprehensible response)? I had more than 6 zones so I paid extra --which is okay because I realize that is what the deal terms stated. But I got an estimate at the end of this so called sprinkler system evaluation which seemed too pricey. The owner also offered 20% discount for angie's list customers. However, given the communication problem I had with the gentlemen who performed the service (and his poor attitude), I do not think I will avail of their service again. I must say I was not satisfied with the service overall.
My suggestion: maybe some of their technicians need better people skills and stronger customer orientation. First impression is everything.
"We are very disappointed and surprised by this review. We are happy that so many angies list members took advantage of the terrific deal that we offered. We provided great service-- we responded immediately to the purchase, booked a very quick appointment and our experienced technician conducted a thorough summer check-up. This member was upset with that he was charged for the 7th zone, and with the quote for repairs. The deal clearly stated that it was for 6 zones, and that there would be an additional $5 charge for each additional zone. Our technician diagnosed what needed to be repaired and provided the homeowner with an estimate for that work that was very reasonable. We pride ourselves on our professionalism, expertise and customer service. We look forward to working with you in the future."
