"We were dispatched to perform emergency services by your insurance company. That is not a situation where a quote is provided. Homeowner's are required by their insurance policies to mitigate further damages. The very nature of a commercial dehumidifier is that it dries the environment and as a result heat is discharged. All our paperwork complies with state law. Regarding the billing, a copy is sent to both the homeowner and their insurance company. It is in no way double billing. That is how the insurance process works."
"Thank you for reviewing Mark 1 Restoration. We are glad you would use our emergency service again in the future."
From the very beinning, Paul Bronson (estimator/coordinator) at Mark 1 and I had disscussed that once mold portion was complete, he would be able to estimate the repair portion but not before as it may manifest in size as they complete this portion. He stated he had taken additional pictures and explained the benefit of using one company for the entire claim process as they would know where and what the previous stage had done, etc. Understood, I agreed.
They started the mold remediation portion but as it always was from the beginning of dealing with Mark 1 restoration, the office did not communicate. During the physical mold remediation repair process, I left several voice mails for Paul Bronson as well as mentioned to workers that I needed to speak with the office to set up the repair portion phase. I did not get any response. The mold portion was completed and inspected by the state for certification. When I finally had to reach out to them to find out if I passed this certification process, Paul Bronson states that they don't have a repair from USAA and O, by the way, we are 7-8 weeks out. He had no interest in obtaining a repair work order from USAA or even doing the repair portion, period. To date, I have no documentation of any of the work actually performed, certifications, what removal still needs to be done with the next vendor as the mold was only temporarily stopped with this portion of the claim, etc. As a result, I now need to start over with another vendor for the repair portion and find answers to the above mentioned.
To summerize this organization, their workers did a fine job however the office staff is a complete nightmare! No communication, they will spin previous conversations between parties, play the blame game, in this case, claiming they are waiting for USAA, etc., and will essentially leave you as a homeowner hanging. Mark 1 restoration had plenty of opportunities to reach out and state that they never intended nor were they interested in being involved for the completion of this claim.
PLEASE DO NOT USE MARK 1 RESTORATION. With this style of work ethic, in my opinion, they don't deserve the work or to be a preferred vendor of any insurance company for that matter!
"Our paperless, online, real time handling with certain insurance carriers require an electronic assignment. Without that we cannot communicate with the insurance adjuster. If a call were placed by the homeowner to their own insurance company we would have received the proper assignment and uploaded all requested documents. We handle thousands of claims annually for multiple carriers."
"Our detailed estimating charges by the square or linear foot and not by time. If our contractors didn't work within your schedule please call your Estimator or Production Superintendent. It is always our goal to complete every job on time."
Although I was happy with our original estimator (Ron). I was initially stood up for my appointment by Ed who would oversee the work. He apologized and we rescheduled (not a big deal).
The first work was done by someone who did not have all the appropriate supplies to insulate and complete the dry wall. He said he made due with what he had in his truck, but left a hole in the wall that remained exposed. The drywall patching was never sanded.
Most of the work was done by Dave (a subcontractor?). His work was sloppy with very poor attention to detail. He damaged parts of our house including chipping a corion counter top and cabinet (I have pictures before and after). He lied about what he did and didn't do.
Casing that was not even damaged before Mark1 had come to first patch the wall in the kitchen were removed and replaced, but the joins of the casing are not aligned well. Additionally, the caulking was sloppy with ridges (it could have been smooth in 10 seconds with a moistened finger, but he didn't bother. The workmanship sloppy and unprofessional.
The electrical connection below the cabinet is not aligned properly so it exited under (ins tread of though the cabinet. This was really the only electrical reconnection and something that Mark 1 quoted over $400 for placement an electrician. No electrician ever entered my home.
Areas of the drywall patch work (of which there wasn't much) was not sanded before painting. The order of what to be done when had no oversight and was not thought through. This is sloppy with a lack of attention to detail.
Painting was sloppy with drips in some places (e.g., door, the floor), ,ceiling paint on the trim, paint on light fixtures... and incomplete in others. There were still water stains in some areas and they had initially refused to prime those areas because it was not in his scope of work. This was the main reason they were hired, mind you, to address the water damage.
The trim had to be repainted because they initiatively refused to use the original paint type (oil based). After much discussion this was redone. He also painted a portion of the wall the wrong color.
Clean-up was subpar. They never used any drop cloth under anything that was painted and I stlll have drips and drops of paint on floors, windows, etc...
Lastly, but very importantly, our sitter had asked when they would be done so that she could be back to lock the house, but they just left earlier then they said they would and left the house unlocked and unattended without communicating.
His superviser Ed, eventually cam out with someone other than Dave after he couldn't complete it effectively in 3 attempts. But they did not correct the misaligned window trim (casing), and they area they repainted (over Dave's mistake) bled though. I asked if it needed to be re-primed and they said it should be fine. It still shows thought.
For the $4500 that came from myself and my insurance company, I would have given them a $1000 just to stay out of my house and hire a more qualified painter/craftsman/contractor for a fraction of the cost. I understand folks are human, and I not normally a person to point out so many details, but when they systematically fail on so many aspects of the job. I would be cautious about using them. I understand they are a very big outfit and others may have a great experience, but I am just amazed that it was so poorly done and poorly organized for what should have been a straightforward job.
