Dutra Sewer Service

I can't say enough good things about Kyle Dutra and his crew. If you're looking to convert from a septic tank to the town sewer line or from well water to the town water line, this is the company that will do a fantastic job. Their communication is first rate (thank you Valoree!!) and their work ethic is very professional. This is what they do for a living so don't make the mistake of trying to find a plumber to do this work. Kyle patiently answered all our questions and was very quick to come up with a solution that eliminated our need for a grinder pump which saved us around $3,000. I highly recommend these guys. You'll thank me!

Dutra was third company I had to the house to evaluate and work on our problem of a blockage of our sewer pipe. First plumber snaked the line, couldn't find anything and left us stranded with no suggestion of next move. Second company used hydro-jet to clear line. They too couldn't find any clog so told us problem had to be caused by the trap and want $8500 to rip up the basement floor. Dutra came with a camera and found the collapsed pipe at the property line; no problem with trap. Dutra brought in excavation equipment and replaced the line. Only to find there was still a problem across the street; another collapsed line, this time caused by Suez Water. Dutra & Suez worked together to get the line replaced. Everything works great now. If you need excavating work done, I would most definitely call on Dutra again. They were in constant communication of all steps taken. Though the job was not cheap, I thoroughly understand the cost due to the equipment and man power used and the time spent working at my house.

Wow, these guys were amazing! They worked fast, were friendly, and their price was fair. They also uncovered another issue in the process, and repaired it for a fair amount. I really like them.

Honesty, Integrity and Quality! I cannot speak highly enough about Dutra Sewer and Water!!! Was walking in my yard on the weekend and fell into a septic pit that had been abandoned 30 years ago and collapsed. No homeowner wants to deal with this type of disaster!! I got several estimates from other sewer companies that ranged from ok to the absurd deal with my abandoned septic system. The next day I called Dutra Sewer and Water in Montvale, NJ at 7:30 AM. I dealt with both Mike and his staff and they knew exactly what I had. Mike was over looking at my property within 30 minutes of me calling and fully explaining that what I was dealing with was very common and could easily be rectified! I was provided a full detailed estimate of all services and costs. We agreed to proceed, within 2 days the job was done with all permits receiving full inspection and approval by the town. Even more impressive was when Mike provided me with the estimate I explained that I was very concerned about my landscaping being destroyed in the repair process. Instead of using a huge machines that could cause allot of collateral damage Mike brought in 7 of his people to hand dig the job and still kept the price in-line with his original estimate. The end result is truly amazing and we are back to normal!!!! If I could give them 10 stars I would!!!

everything went great. they used a bursting technique which meant we did not have to have our lawn and landscaping dug up. just the hole in the street and in the basement. even managed to get the town to waive the use of a police man to save a few hundred dollars more but YMMV.

unexpected issues from old PSEG subcontract work that Dutra had to fix. higher costs than expected but Dutra did a great job and helped us navigate the matter.... would definitely use them again

From start to finish, it was a pleasure to deal with Dutra. I have never said that before about any contractor, but then again this was the first time I used Angie’s list to select a contractor. Here are some of the things that made it a pleasure to work with Dutra: The POSITIVE: (1) Promptness - When I called for a quote, the owner (Mike) was in the area and dropped by the same day. About 3 weeks later they had all permits in hand and began work. (2) No Pressure Sales – The owner provided me a quote. When I offered to write him a check for the deposit, he insisted that I think about it and mail him a check. Wow! (3) Conscientious – I asked them for a few additional things while they were here. They did not charge for some and charged me a reasonable additional amount for others. (4) Equipment & Workers – They showed up with a full crew and some serious equipment. (5) Great communication – The owner called me within a few hours on several occasions when I called with a question. Also, all of the workers were extremely polite and pleasant. 6. Pride in their work - On the first day the owner sent a single worker to expose the gas pipe. He spoke very highly of his employer and stressed that “Dutra does things right.” The NEGATIVE: OK, nothing on earth ever goes perfectly but I can only think of one negative. On the day the work was supposed to begin, Dutra postponed the work until the next day. However, the owner called me very early (6:30 AM) so I could plan out my day and sent a worker to expose the gas pipe in order to work faster the next day. The schedule change added some stress in that I had to be in the office the next day for a late meeting and I wanted to observe the work done. However, Dutra worked so fast that they were done by the time I drove to the office. The CONCLUSION: Dutra's bid was slightly higher than 2 others, but I am glad I selected Dutra.

They were excellent, I cant say enough of how good they are. They were just great absolutely amazing!

We needed to replace an old terra cotta sewer line.   While replacing a sewer line is not fun, our experience with Dutra was excellent.  Chris, from Dutra, is extraordinarily professional, very experienced and easy to work with.
He was at our house shortly after we contacting Dutra. That evening he used a camera to inspect our line and Chris tried to look for a cheaper and easier resolution than replacing the line, which I definitely appreciated. 
The next day I received the price quote.  I found Dutra's prices to be reasonable and less than the other estimate that we had for the job.    Two days later, Chris had pulled the permit and was on the job replacing our sewer line.  Because he was able to do a trenchless replacement of the line, the entire job took less than 1 day, despite the fact that we had over 120 feet of line to replace.  And once he was done, Dutra restored the property.  The final price came in right at Chris' estimate.
Chris was also easy to contact and happy to explain all of the parts of the process as we went along.
I would highly recommend Dutra. 

We are very happy with Dutra Sewer and Water Company.  Mike, the owner and his 2 sons (Kyle and Chris) were very professional, courteous and, as it turns out, trustworthy.  Mike was there from start to finish and even came on Saturday morning because they knew it was important to us to get it fixed as soon as possible.  I learned this is a family business and a family member was accessible the entire time.  The price they charged was fair and even came in a little lower than a competitors bid.   

I heard about Dutra from Angie's list and we are very glad we did because we will call Dutra again for all future sewer or water main service. 

The job was more difficult for them than they anticipated it to be. The drain pipe was 4 inches away from our gass line.
So they couldn't use the machine that goes in through the drain pipe itself. Yet, they were prepaired, had to do more labor- but kept me in the know and was verry nice about it!  I liked the fact they were a family business.

• I planned to use their service during late spring as roots have sometimes encroached upon sewer lines
• in our house as well as several neighbors. I was going to use their services as a preventative measure as we had had no serious problems in years. Unfortunately that was the year that our boiler started leaking and had to be replaced distracting us from going forward with our project.  that summer we lost our central air conditioning and had to use window and room units to get through the remainder of the summer. We did replace our central system in the fall, and that winter finally started to return to our sewer cleaning project.. We left a message with the receptionist at Dutra and several days later were called by a manager who stated they would not honor the" big deal"  but would be glad to do the job at their new regular price of several hundred dollars. At  this point I think I would just like my money refunded since they did no work or even gave no personal assessment at my residence.
• This is not to cast aspersion on the work Dutra does, it is just a business dispute caused in part by my unforeseen circumstances
• preventing me from taking advantage of the "big deal" in a timely manner. This was a very good price for the service proposed, and I can understand them not wanting to honor an old prepaid price, but again since they did no work I would like to have the money refunded.

Chris, his brother and crew were most professional. After completion, did 6 loads of laundry and ran dishwasher with nary a drop in the basement. We have lived in our 110 year old home for 28 years and this is the first major problem we have had. Heartily recommend Dutra to everyone! Don't let anyone come dig up your entire yard and replace the whole line which many do with dire consequences.

I  had to have a main water line replaced in my home.  Dutra gave me the best price for excellent work.  They arrived early and on time and were very courteous and professional.  As they left they told me to call them with any problems or concerns that I may have afterwards.  It has only been a few days, but I am very, very happy with the work they did.  I would definitely use Dutra again and for sure and would recommend them  to others. They did a great job.   Cathy Ledwith, Suffern N.Y.

Everything was fine before they came, they were supposed to just do an inspection and drain cleaning. After they came they said there were roots in the sewer lines, but said since only my mother lives in the house it would be fine. The next day when my mom used the shower the drains backed up and flooded. I had to call another company to come and fix the problem. The other company said there was also a missing cap on one of the sewer lines  Dutra did not inform us of this when they came either.

Kyle was very professional and personable.  He called night before to confirm and also day of to say when he would be here.  He let me know everything going on in sewer line and some good preventative tips. Kyle also cleaned up what little mess there was and also referred me to a good plumber (as he does only outside work).  I have not met a nicer, friendly person in quite a while and also knows his job.
