Buyer beware this company is not what it used to be… has become very poor service, quality and workmanship. I was assigned a crew that had very little experience if any and it shows throughout. I had to spend 10 days of my life managing this chaos and couldn’t wait for them to get out of here. The house was not prepped properly the paint and chalk are failing after 1 year see attached photos . The inexperience crew also caused $3800 worth of damage on a brand new roof with paint spills and damaged shingles from walking on a hot roof. ( no offer to pay for roof damage) will have to sue. Parts of the house were not even painted just primed. Please do not make the same mistake I did do not hire this company. George offered to come and touch things up a day before wanting to come, using me as a fill-in which I declined (what makes you think you could do it right this time if you couldn’t do it right the first time?) anyway picture is worth 1000 words. Tried posting the below review. Not sure it went public . *************** I recently used Independent Painter to paint the exterior of my home. This was the second time that I engaged their services. The owner, George Mera, is extremely professional and reliable. The cost is very reasonable and the quality of work superior. The crew is courteous and skilled. I highly recommend them.

From the minute the call took place, I received nothing other than politeness, respect, and courtesy from the owner, George Mera. The appointment was quickly scheduled and he walked me through the entire estimate process. The estimate was a reasonable price and the job was quickly scheduled. The job lasted approximately 4 days; the crew was lead by a very professional lead man who was very humble, polite, respectful, and asked me if I had questions for him or concerns every day when he arrived and left the job site. The job was quickly done, as the crew of 5-6 guys worked extremely fast but Not sloppy! Clean up was done every day before they left the job site. The job was done well and completed with me being 100% satisfied!

Excellent crew, very clean, good attention to detail ; Excellent prep work, much more than promised by most companies I spoke with; estimate fair and right on target for the job.

Our house is large so we had a crew of about 6 men working here for 2 entire weeks.   These guys did a fantastic job.  They were very hard-working, courteous, and they always cleaned up after themselves.  The company owner, George, is very knowledgeable about painting and very professional. He came by every morning to check on the progress of the job.  We we willing to pay to have the job done right, knowing it would not be cheap - but that we'd save money in the long run because it would spare us needing to have the house painted all over again in several years.  We opted for top-of-the-line exterior paint for a more durable finish. On some sections of the house, the existing paint was loose, and we knew that scraping and sanding those areas was essential for a good paint job, so that added to the price.  We also agreed to have them do the numerous wood repairs I mentioned above, and that added several thousand dollars to the price. We knew if we  hired a separate contractor to do all the repairs, it would have cost us more. One of the crew, Isiah, is also a great carpenter so he went ahead of the painters with his tools and did repairs on the porch decks, trim, and more.  Another thing was that several shutters were missing, and we didn't want to spend to replace the missing shutters as they'd need to be custom-made.  So we asked the guys to move some shutters around so each window would have a complete pair, i.e. a shutter on both sides -  we were OK with leaving a few windows on the back without any shutters where it was less visible.  Better than spending a few thousand on several custom shutters.  But even moving the shutters around took a lot of measuring and planning  - we had so many windows, and hence shutters, of different sizes.  This house was built in 1875 so nothing was "standard."  It was a massive amount of work which is why it came to $20,425.  It was well worth it.  Many people have commented on the beautiful paint job. We are extremely pleased with the result.

George and his team were amazing. I would hire them again in a second.

The project went very well. It took about 2 weeks, and they were always arrived when expected.
They protected all of the floors, took down all the curtains and things, and prepped the walls and trim very well.

Our real estate broker recommended George and although it was a little pricy, we are so glad we went with them because it was worth every penny.  George and his crew were so professional.  They came in, covered the entire house wall to wall so our floors were completely protected.  We had just put in new floors so that was very important.  The house was old (like many houses in Maplewood) and I was feeling a little buyer's remorse after we closed.  But George's crew painted the entire house so beautifully, I remembered why I fell in the love with the house in the first place!!  All of the closets were SO old with paint peeling so bad you could see the cement/raw material behind some of the walls.  But after George's crew was done with them, they all looked brand new!  My only regret is not having them paint the bathrooms.  Tried to save a few bucks thinking we would do those ourselves, but 2 months later and they are still unpainted.  We may end up calling George again to finish up our bathrooms, and also use them when we are ready to re-paint the exterior of our house.   I would highly recommend Independent Painters!!

Everytime we have used them they have done a great job! The ceilings that they painted were very trickly with lots of moldings to paint around. The owner, George Mera is very professional and takes his work very seriously. They are also very fair when it comes to prices. Always cheaper than other estimates. Highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.

George and the team did an amazing job! From when George came to give us the estimate, we knew we had to hire him. First, for what they do for the price. They sanded our entire house down to the wood in order to remove all lead based paint that was causing peeling. No other painter planned on doing that for only a few hundred less. The others were all going to spot sand. Secondly, they were SO NEAT. They basically built tents to sand under, leaving zero mess. They even vacuumed our driveway for any paint chips before leaving on the final day. Every single day they cleaned up and left the house in great condition. The job they did was so beautiful that our 50s ranch looks like a brand new home! You could even mistake it for hardy board. I can't say enough great things about the team at Independent Painters. All of my neighbors have complimented the job they did--even taking down their info for their own homes. Please do not hesitate to hire them...they did an amazing job!

George and his crew were excellent. The preparation was careful and methodical, the work exemplary and the price very reasonable. George is very courteous and a pleasure to work with. My only (very minor) complaint is that there was more dust around the windowsills than I expected and it was time-consuming to clean it. Highly recommend.

They cleaned carefully and painted beautifully. We had to reschedule the job because of an emergency but they accommodated us. George came by every day to supervise and check on his workers. It was a big job but they worked quickly, though not sloppily, and were done within the expected time frame. Cleaned up after themselves well.

Independent Painters' pricing was competitive with other painting companies in the area, but I went with them because they committed to a short time frame and were willing to coordinate their work with carpetting contractors working concurrently. Quality of the work was good. One minor issue was that they painted over some of my power outlets, leaving some paint in the sockets. Overall I am very satisfied with the job they did. They completed the work over 3 days, working on Saturday to ensure everything was completed on schedule. George Mera was very easy to work with and very professional. Would definitely use them again.

They did an excellent job. They gave a nice proposal and performed as proposed.

Reviewed job with vendor. Got e-mail estimate the next day. Agreed to a two day work period and final payment schedule. One worker came to the house right on time, both days-work was completed to expectations a little ahead of schedule. Would recommend them-very good work. However, the worker that came, Alex and the owner-George, the voice on the phone, have heavy accents making it hard to understand them. They're understanding of me could be a question too, if I was to give them a complex paint job like the inside of my whole house and the language barrier exists. This is my one concern.

The company did an excellent job. George was prompt with his estimate, thorough in explaining the work that would be done, and delivered everything as promised, on time and at a fair price. We were impressed with the care the crew took to keep our property clean and to minimize disruption during this naturally messy job. They did a great job with the sanding, and the siding looks great. George responded immediately to any concerns that came up and resolved them to our total satisfaction. He also was very good about helping us narrow down our color selection for the front door. And the house looks absolutely gorgeous. We have had people stop us on the street to remark on how the paint job totally transformed the house.
