The owner Arik has been supportive in trying to resolve the many problems which this semi-complex new construction alarm install has involved.  The company Guardian Alarm appears to be a top notch company.  I especially like the iPhone & iPad app, which allows us to set and disable the alarm remotely.  If you are going to get a hardwired system, please ensure that all wires are clearly marked and any other subcontractors respect the pre-wiring; otherwise you will be throwing money away.

The prior owners had an alarm installed in the house. I wanted to activate the system when I moved in. The system had been installed by Guardian and Spectracom is an authorized dealer of Guardian. I intially thought I was dealing with one company and when the salesman from Spectracom showed up I was caught off guard. The salesperson honestly seemed that he was drunk or had been drinking and was certainly down and out but I didn't think much of it because I thought I was strictly dealing with Guardian. Shortly after I started having trouble with my system which was a direct reflection of the information that Spectracom had given Guardian. Prime example they told Guardian all of my sensors are hard wired when none of them are. The problem that happens with this is that the alarms trip for false alarms. When I was out of the country the fire department showed up and tried to get into my house because I had a alarm going off falsely. They had tried to force the door open and luckily I reached the fire department before major damage was done. I explained that it was a battery operated detector and explained this was the problem. The fire department ended up going into my home through an upstairs window and there was minimal damage to the window. The end result came at $150 in roaming charges because I was taking care of this on my cell phone out of they country and it never should have happened because it's their product and they should have known! Also they set someone else's system and accidentally used my serial number and when they testing that system it showed up as triggers at my location. When we figured out that it was a low batter I had someone come out to check all of the batteries. The tech broke one of the motion detectors that has a 100 lb limit for my large dog. He replaced it with a 30 lbs detector that would not work. They do not stock that weight limit in their vans and it took them coming out two more times to fix it and they couldn't. I ended up having to have it direct shipped to my home and finally they were able to fix it. When I was out of the country the alarm kept going off. We finally ended up having to power it down and take the system off line and it was still going off. When I spoke to the tech at the call center she said it doesn't make sense because my system was hardwired and that is how we discovered the misinformation. Our system is battery operated! All I needed from them was to get out of my contract. I live in a community that charges $50 dollars for every false alarm after the first false alarm and I'm terrified to turn it on because I'm afraid that it will create false alarms. Guardian was willing to let me out of my contract but Spectracom would not let me out. Now Spectracom is willing to let me out but now Guardian will not let me out because all of the issues that happened took while Spectracom had the service. It's a great racket for crooks.
Response from Spectracom Technologies
"Although we certainly empathize with the member's personal feelings of frustration over her security system, the portion of her system that she is having the difficulty with was not installed by Spectracom or Guardian. As indicated in her own review, the previous homeowners already had an alarm system that she wanted reactivated. Unfortunately, this system was old and was not working correctly. Since paying to upgrade that portion of the system would be an extra charge, the member decided not to upgrade it and just use it as is. Generally this is not a problem, however, she understood any repairs needed would be at her expense. Our sales representative came to her home to evaluate the current system as well as offer her any additional equipment that she may have wanted. During that time, the member signed a five year contract with Guardian to monitor her system. In addition, she was given a remote control and a pet motion for a total cost of $49. Her system was installed on June 23, 2009. At that time, she signed a quality of assurance document stating that she was satisfied with her system. The member contacted Guardian on July 16, 2009 and stated that she was supposed to have an additional keypad installed in the basement. On July 23, Spectracom installed the additional keypad in good faith. After that date, neither Spectracom nor Guardian heard from her regarding any issues that she was having with her system until almost 8 months later, February 2010. Guardian, at that time, received fire trouble signals from the existing smoke detector. Guardian went out and replaced the original smoke detector that was there when the customer purchased the home. The customer also stated some difficulty with a motion that needed to be replaced. A new motion was provided to the customer and installed on April 1, 2010. On April 16, 2010, the customer called and wanted to cancel her contract after almost 10 months. She states that she had an intoxicated representative that sold her the security system back in June of 2009 and she was not happy with the equipment issues that she had. At no time, did the customer make mention of an intoxicated sales representative being at her home until she wanted to cancel, some 10 months later. The equipment that she was having difficulty with was existing equipment, not new equipment that Spectracom installed. Regardless of that, both Spectracom and Guardian continued to offer her support in whatever way we could. The customer wanted new equipment to replace what was existing from the previous homeowner, but was still unwilling to pay for anything. Spectracom prides itself on it’s reputation, we do what we can to make our customers satisfied. However, we are also running a business and can not allow a customer to cancel just because she has had a couple of issues. We are willing to work with the customer to resolve any issues that she might have, but canceling is not an option. A letter was sent on April 23, 2010 advising her that if she should cancel her agreement we would still hold her to her contract. That is when all of her new problems started. We would kindly ask the member to remove this inaccurate review and contact us should she wish to buy any additional equipment. Should anyone have any questions or concerns about this inaccurate review? Please fell free to contact Spectracom at 866-270-8700 with any questions you should have, Mike and Arik"

It went very poorly when I tried to negotiate a reasonable settlement with them. The options they gave me were to pay the balance within 2 days or get their lawyers after me...
Response from Spectracom Technologies
"The member entered into a 5 year contract with Spectracom Security for the monitoring of his home alarm system in September 2007. Around one year later, he made a decision to move out of state and would no longer need the monitoring service which he signed a contract with Spectracom and Guardian. As all businesses, Spectracom expected him to honor the legal contract that he signed the previous year. In a good faith effort, Spectracom was willing to negotiate the total amount that he would need to pay in order to satisfy the terms of his contract. In fact, the final agreement between Spectracom and the member ended in the member only paying half of the balance due on his contract. Upon payment, he was under no further obligation and was released from his 5 year contract. At this time, we are asking him to remove this inaccurate review. Should anyone question this review, we do have the documentation to support this. However we will not post it until we give him the opportunity to remove his honest oversight. We mailed him a request today. Thank you Spectracom 856-910-9880"
