I had expected more conversations about what exactly was going to happen in the bathroom. For example the tub was a little shorter than the short dimension of the room which made tiling difficult. In one transition I wanted to be shown how the pattern would lay and Chris and his tiler couldn't. I guess I thought he would have brought some expertise that would allow them to explain what it would look like before installation.
But two actual complaints is that when they laid the cement board down on the floor in preparation for tiling, the installer's YouTube video instructed to lay a skim coat of cement down before installing the tile, which they didn't. One tile cracked within a few months.
I have steam heat with cast iron registers recessed into the wall. I removed the bathrooms register to strip and paint it. The studs that for the pocket to receive it were removed due to age and replaced. The bathroom was than sheet rocked and spackled. Just to be sure, I test fitted the 200 pound register into its recess only to find it wouldn't fit once tiled. Chris's fix was to Sawzall out some of the stud on one side then replace the sheet rock and spackle the h*** out of that corner, which wasn't dry by the time they re-tiled that section. When I questioned this, Chris reassured me that "They do this all the time".
The bathroom sink was installed leaning forward slightly so water pools away from the drain. In addition, instead of silicone around the tub, he grouted it which is beginning to crack and which will need to be removed and replaced with silicone. All this while I had no toilet in my only bathroom for more than two weeks.
From start to finish, Canto Corp. workers demonstrated a high level of skill and exceptional attention to detail. During the 3-week process they always arrived promptly and were friendly and courteous. They were respectful of my home and property, always cleaning up well at the end of each work day. I am extraordinarily pleased with the quality of the workmanship throughout ? and very happy with the finished bathroom!
Chris was present on an almost daily basis to oversee the work and to resolve minor problems as they arose. He was there to lend advice and to offer support when the stresses of the project (the anticipated ones as well as the inevitable surprises) threatened to overwhelm. He treated my concerns with respect and was generous with his time.
I would highly recommend Canto Corp. to any homeowner looking to remodel. Chris Canto can be expected to provide exceptional expertise, rare integrity and reliability, and a remarkable commitment to his customers? satisfaction.
They started on time, did first class work - including suggestions. Very flexible. Cleaned up every day when they were done. Stayed out for a weekend when I had guests. Just very easy to work with. Job will be finished tonight and it is outstanding. They cleared and cleaned their way out.
I have done many projects like this in my life and couldn't recommend Canto more highly. Ask for Chris. You're gonna like it.
Chris seemed to be as excited about the project as we were. The following week we met with Chris and his architect, Tommy. They took measurements, pictures, and we discussed the project again to make sure we were all on the same page. The initial plans were completed in one week. As a matter off fact, the architect completed two sets of plans, one with our vision and one with our vision improved. We all met again to discuss the project, the plans and decided on a plan the combined the two visions. After out final approval, Chris submitted the plans to my town and obtained all the permits in less than 2 weeks. As a matter of fact, I found out later that the plans needed some kind of revision on them before they could be accepted. Chris and his architect took care the issue and didn't tell me about it until it was already resolved.
Chris went over the contract with my husband and I, making sure we understood everything. While we were signing the contract, Chris told us that they would be starting to excavate the foundation in 3 days. Chris even had samples with him so that we can start selecting roofing and siding materials. Chris told my husband and I that he was committed to our project and expected to complete it within 4-6 weeks. He said that a project like ours should typically take 90 days but since he wanted my seriously ill mother to move in to her new space sooner than later, he and his team would be concentrating on our project.
Chris informed us that he would need to disconnect and relocate our central air conditioning unit before they started excavating. He made sure that the unit was moved, drained and up and running all in the same day as he wanted us to be as comfortable as possible.
We are currently one week into the project and everything has been going very smoothly. Chris has made the entire process from our initial meeting until this point as painless and easy as possible. My husband and I had our first meeting with Chris the end of May 2014 and construction started 7 weeks later! I would recommend his company to everyone and I would definitely use them again.
