Chris and his crew were professional, honest, friendly and they did a heck of a job cleaning up . Since then I've hired someone for insulation and they were very impressed with Chris' work!

I was not very pleased with Canto Construction. This was the first major renovation that I had outsourced to a contractor. I have done a lot of home restoration and renovation myself. In fact I instructed Chris Canto that I was going to fabricate and install the window and door trim, which came out beautifully. My house was built in the 40's so there aren't many straight lines and the walls are thicker due to older sheet rock and plaster skim coat.
I had expected more conversations about what exactly was going to happen in the bathroom. For example the tub was a little shorter than the short dimension of the room which made tiling difficult. In one transition I wanted to be shown how the pattern would lay and Chris and his tiler couldn't. I guess I thought he would have brought some expertise that would allow them to explain what it would look like before installation.
But two actual complaints is that when they laid the cement board down on the floor in preparation for tiling, the installer's YouTube video instructed to lay a skim coat of cement down before installing the tile, which they didn't. One tile cracked within a few months.
I have steam heat with cast iron registers recessed into the wall. I removed the bathrooms register to strip and paint it. The studs that for the pocket to receive it were removed due to age and replaced. The bathroom was than sheet rocked and spackled. Just to be sure, I test fitted the 200 pound register into its recess only to find it wouldn't fit once tiled. Chris's fix was to Sawzall out some of the stud on one side then replace the sheet rock and spackle the h*** out of that corner, which wasn't dry by the time they re-tiled that section. When I questioned this, Chris reassured me that "They do this all the time".
The bathroom sink was installed leaning forward slightly so water pools away from the drain. In addition, instead of silicone around the tub, he grouted it which is beginning to crack and which will need to be removed and replaced with silicone. All this while I had no toilet in my only bathroom for more than two weeks.

I interviewed several companies -- all of whom seemed good -- but chose Canto because of price and proposed schedule.  My second floor bath had major plumbing issues and they needed to be addressed ASAP.   Chris, the owner of Canto, worked with my schedule and really helped address the urgent systemic plumbing issues but was also really responsive to the subsequent design and practical issues we faced.  They turned the job around in less than four weeks and did an excellent job.  And even though we had to modify the bathroom-only job to, in addition, replace/repair the kitchen ceiling -- which got damaged because of the bathroom plumbing problems -- I felt his pricing was fair.  And the work his crew did was first rate.  I would use him again.

I worked with Chris Canto in 2009 to replace my back porch. I was very pleased with the outcome of that project and did not hesitate to contact him again for my bathroom remodel. Again, I was not disappointed.

From start to finish, Canto Corp. workers demonstrated a high level of skill and exceptional attention to detail. During the 3-week process they always arrived promptly and were friendly and courteous. They were respectful of my home and property, always cleaning up well at the end of each work day. I am extraordinarily pleased with the quality of the workmanship throughout ? and very happy with the finished bathroom!

Chris was present on an almost daily basis to oversee the work and to resolve minor problems as they arose. He was there to lend advice and to offer support when the stresses of the project (the anticipated ones as well as the inevitable surprises) threatened to overwhelm. He treated my concerns with respect and was generous with his time.

I would highly recommend Canto Corp. to any homeowner looking to remodel. Chris Canto can be expected to provide exceptional expertise, rare integrity and reliability, and a remarkable commitment to his customers? satisfaction.

Excellent experience. These guys say what they do, and do what they say. I narrowed  it down to 5 contactors and chose Canto because they were responsive to every question during the selection process, I asked for clarification of their bid and they detailed it way more closely than the others.
They started on time, did first class work - including suggestions. Very flexible. Cleaned up every day when they were done. Stayed out for a weekend when I had guests. Just very easy to work with. Job will be finished tonight and it is outstanding. They cleared and cleaned their way out.
I have done many projects like this in  my life and couldn't recommend Canto more highly. Ask for Chris. You're gonna like it.

It was great. We put an addition on the house made a long time ago, and he saw a leak and so I said, "This got to be fixed". They came in and they also noticed several other things that needed to be done. I can't remember exactly, but a few other things that I hadn't known about really. So, he actually did more than just fix the roof. I would definitely recommend him. As a matter of fact, there are some other work that I needed done and I have already been talking to him about that. I was pleased to know that he's done this additional stuff that I didn't know needed to be done.

Canto Corp. made the renovation process very easy for us. First of all, the reno began in early November which means our 8-9 week construction job ran through the holidays. We continued to live in the house during the construction with 5 and 11 year old children (Santa was still able to find his way down the chimney). We had terrible weather at some points; hurricane-like rain and even a foot of snow. The siding guys were dodging ice cycles. All that being said, our living space remained untouched, the crew was very neat and considerate. Chris was on-site every day, overseeing every aspect of the job and making suggestions to us to even better the look of our house. He was also available at any time, even taking our calls at night. Our house is beautiful! We receive compliments to this day and numerous people have asked us for tours. We have recommend Chris Canto and his team to anyone looking for a contractor.

They were extremely professional and did quality work. The bathroom looks great, and you would never know where the walls had been previously. I would definitely use them again.

We needed to expand our home as my mother had suddenly became ill and need to move in with us.  We interviewed many contractors before meeting with Chris, the owner, of Canto Corp Construction. We told him what we needed the house to look like when the construction would be complete not knowing if it could be accomplished as the prior contractors we interviewed just didn't understand our "vision".  After speaking with Chris for about 10 minutes, Chris drew a picture for my husband and I reflecting what he though "our vision" was.... he understood!!  It was exactly what we wanted: a space that could be used for my mother now and be repurposed as family space at a later time.
Chris seemed to be as excited about the project as we were.  The following week we met with Chris and his architect, Tommy. They took measurements, pictures, and we discussed the project again to make sure we were all on the same page.  The initial plans were completed in one week.  As a matter off fact, the architect completed two sets of plans, one with our vision and one with our vision improved.  We all met again to discuss the project, the plans and  decided on a plan the combined the two visions.  After out final approval, Chris submitted the plans to my town and obtained all the permits in less than 2 weeks.  As a matter of fact, I found out later that the plans needed some kind of revision on them before they could be accepted.  Chris and his architect took care the  issue and didn't tell me about it until it was already resolved.
Chris went over the contract with my husband and I, making sure we understood everything.  While we were signing the contract,  Chris told us that they would be starting to excavate the foundation in 3 days.  Chris even had samples with him so that we can start selecting roofing and siding materials.  Chris told my husband and I that he was committed to our project and expected to complete it within 4-6 weeks.  He said that a project like ours should typically take 90 days but since he wanted my seriously ill mother to move in to her new space sooner than later, he and his team would be concentrating on our project.
Chris informed us that he would need to disconnect and relocate our central air conditioning unit before they started excavating. He made sure that the unit was moved, drained and up and running all in the same day as he wanted us to be as comfortable as possible.
We are currently one week into the project and everything has been going very smoothly.  Chris has made the entire process from our initial meeting until this point as painless and easy as possible. My husband and I had our first meeting with Chris the end of May 2014 and construction started 7 weeks later!     I would recommend his company to everyone and I would definitely use them again.

We were very pleased with the results. Chris and his crew do quality work. They were here when promised, the work took the amount of time Chris said it would, and they were very good about cleaning up afterward. Before work began, Chris knew where to purchase the low-threshold base for the shower. He made useful suggestions on how to keep the cost reasonable by using some expensive tile we had chosen as an accent rather than for the entire shower. And at one point he had me return some tile I purchased by pointing out that it hadn't been cut properly and wasn't straight.

OK.  The floor had to be refinished because the first refinishing was very poor.  I had to redo all of the electrical on the dishwasher installation because the original job was poor.  I found out that my dining room light was also installed poorly and had to be re-installed.  Overall, this was an OK job.

Pretty good. They were the only ones who called back in the NE NJ area out of many. They were pretty easy to get a hold of. Work started strong and then continued in different days over a month period. They weren't ready to start until a good month after agreeing on a date to do so which was OK I suppose.

Chris called us back after we left the initial message on his answering machine. That alone got us off to a wonderful start! He made an appointment to stop by and showed up exactly when he said he would. We described what we had in mind and showed him a set of architect's plans which we had drawn up. We spoke about some of the ideas we had and he took the plans with him. He ended up improving on the original design and had many ideas that other contractors had not thought of. Chris was very good at coordinating all of the various element of our project and made very good use of the time available. Not only did Chris and his crew show up every time they said they would, but all of the subcontractors, roofers, siders, dry wall people, electricians, and plumbers he engaged did as well. All of them did a superb job under Chris Canto's watchful eye. I can't begin to tell you how pleased we are with our beautiful new sunroom. I never would have found this company if not for Angie's List.
