"Everything was explained to your contractor in charge ahead of time. There will always be touchup needed when applying the stain. Your painter was coming the following week to paint the stair risers and stringers. In fact we were told not to even worry about any of the stain as all the painting was being done last. It seems like you were upset that many other parts of your housing renovation were not done correctly, and taking it out on whoever you can. The floors were the only thing done correctly in that house."
"Anyone with any basic knowledge will know that the gaps in your boards have nothing to do with sanding the floors. The boards have shifted due to temperature changes through the years, and there is nothing you can really do with that outside of replacing a section of the floor. Your follow up email stated that YOU scratched the floor in a few places when you replaced your furniture, and you asked if I could come out and touch them up. I actually agreed to do this at no cost as a courtesy, and I said I would stop by the next time I was in the area (house is located almost an hr away from me). I have not been out that way yet, and I have returned every call and email you have ever sent so that part is a complete lie."
"Completely false statement on both accounts. I told you I would try and get out there that afternoon if I was free, but we never firmed anything up. B/c of the coronavirus, I was stuck at home watching my kids and was unable to make it out. Your complete lies about driving to meet me and waiting are hilarious, and I will post your actual email to me from our conversation for Angie's List readers to see: "Great, we will be by the house from 3 pm on, and we do have multiple people coming by to address multiple projects including the floors. We have people scheduled to come by from 3 pm. - 6 pm. There’s a a bit of a gap around 4 pm." You were meeting multiple companies at the house all afternoon long, and your lies in this review are shameful, and should be removed."
"Thank you for the kind review, enjoy the floors!"
"Thank you for the nice review!"
Initially spoke with owner several years ago when he came out to give estimate, then when I recently decided to do some remodeling, I reached out again to schedule. He did not even come to reexamine floors until very last minute before scheduled date to refinish , which I had to ask him several times to do.
I must take full responsibility for not doing my due diligence in choosing Fabulous Floors for this job. Next mistake was paying cash! Credit Cards always give protection.
Floors turned out poorly with extreme unevenness in coating, streaky and overall poorly done. Claimed I asked for a satin stain finish rather than a high glaze which is what I had on floors, which may have been discussed as an option but never agreed upon (no official paperwork was given until after I asked him to send me an official invoice - my bad) as I don"t even understand the difference nor was ever shown examples of different glazes. When the 1st coats were applied ,the satin finish was terrible, rough and not at all acceptable. I called the owner and asked for them to be finished with a high glaze.
When I complained about finished product , below was his response and my comments added herein:
"We did the job the same way we have every other job for the last 10 yrs , and exactly to the industry standard that every other company does. You have to remember you have a 50+ yr old pine floor which will never look "perfect.".
(I Did not expect perfect but at least as good as the original coating looked before their poor job).!
The only feasible thing that can be done at this point would be to do another buff and coat which would help build up a thicker layer of finish and possibly even out the sheen (although imperfections in the wood itself can cause areas to absorb the finish differently). So there is still no guarantee the areas you are referring to would be 100% even afterwards.
(I was not looking for 100% but job wasn't even closed to a C let alone a 100% A+.)
I can offer you a discount on doing a 4th finish coat if you are interested in going that route." -
(NOW WHY WOULD I WANT TO DO BUSINESS AGAIN WITH THIS COMPANY?)
"I explained to this customer numerous times the differences between sheen's and gave my professional recommendation which was to go with satin to help hide wear and tear with their very old pine floor. Customer agreed this was the best option, so we used satin on the first polyurethane coat. As the project neared the halfway point they started complaining about it not looking thick or shiny enough. I shared numerous times that they have to wait until after the final coat is applied for the finish to build up and look good (of course it does not look great half done!). At that time the customer demanded we switch to a high gloss finish for the final coat, and we accommodated his request (although against our recommendation). Now in the middle of the job, the homeowner wanted his new kitchen to be installed before we came back and finished the final coat. I advised we don't like to do that b/c other contractors always leave a mess or damage the floors, and in turn we are stuck trying to fix additional problems. I made this crystal clear but customer insisted the kitchen go in first. We again complied with his request, and what happened? The kitchen contractor got drywall dust all over the floors and then proceeded to wipe it up with a wet rag before the polyurethane was cured (water will damage the poly during curing process). When we arrived to finish the final coat the floor was covered in gray streaks throughout from the wet rag, which also raised the floor grains in the those areas. The result was after the final coat there were a few small areas where the sheen was uneven as a result of both switching the sheens in the middle, and wetting/dirtying the floor in the middle of the job. On top of all of that I still offered to come back out (3+ hr round trip) to spend an entire extra day applying another additional coat to try and make this customer happy. I asked to be paid only for the materials (free labor) since we were fixing an issue we did not cause. I was threatened me with a bad review if I did not do the work for free (a violation of your Member Agreement with angieslist.com). In conclusion, we went the extra mile for this customer, which included filling giant holes in the wood (30+ holes), repairing and replacing boards in the kitchen, taking phone calls at 7:30am and 10pm on the weekends, etc, and nothing was going to make this customer happy. We always stand behind our work, and I will be happy to review the situation with anyone reading this if they have any concerns. Please continue to read all of our positive reviews to help your decision in choosing us for your next project!"
