The salesman liked to tout how much experience he had but had no phone manners. He was fine in person but when he was told that the 'tentative' date to start , I was not available. He got an attitude on the phone. I was told he could not give me an exact date but sometime that week. So when I told him he could not start Monday. He said, 'I told you that it would be this week.' With which I responded, Wednesday would be fine.
Then when it came to the bill. I left a message with the person that does the billing, not knowing she was on vacation, stating received the final bill but it's not itemized. That was July 4th week. The following week, I get a call back and she stated she would leave a message with the sales guy. When I got no response, after the 3rd and fourth call. The billing person told me I should really talk to the salesman, who by the way, told me not to call his cell because he likes to give full attention to customers on the road when he's on a sales call. I never got a bill that itemized labor or parts. I paid the balance because I was in for half already and risked losing out rebates for the money I did spend and voiding warranties by not registering on time.
What I did not like was that until you pay in full, they do not send all information you need for rebates, warranties and tax purposes.and a lot that has to happen within 30-60 days of install. I was also expected to sign a piece of paper stating that there were capital improvements done and that I DID NOT PAY ANY STATE SALES TAX.
I have no idea if I paid sales taxes or not but I signed it anyway to get my rebates expedited and move on...I don't why I couldn't have an itemized bill and feel because I did not get one that somehow I paid for labor or parts I did not get. It felt hinky. Had the salesman explained there was a flat charge up front for install and it would have been a different story. I would have moved onto the next HVAC provider.(They gave me an itemized bill for plumbing, so I did not understand why I couldn't get one for the HVAC!)
I was told at signing that the estimate did not include the permit or taxes meaning that once the bill was finalized he would have a better idea what the taxes and permits were as they vary according to what was done and the township. That's how it was explained to me. They would pay the for permit up front but would be included in the bill at the end. It also was NOT explained to me UP FRONT that I would be exempted from paying sales taxes for a 'capital improvement.'
They keep track of hours for the union for their benefits and know what the cost was for the parts so....?
MY RECOMMENDATION IS TO GET THE ESTIMATE WITH ITEMIZATION AT YOUR KITCHEN TABLE BEFORE YOU SIGN THE CONTRACT.
I have no choice but to keep them because the first year they warranty the work....and I would totally lose out. But again my complaint was not with the install or the techs, who were professional and timely. But feel something underhanded had been done with the billing....
