"I'm writing today in response to this negative review. In May of 2012 we completed a roof replacement at [member address removed]. On 5/15/13 the owner of the company, Brian Genovese, reported to the residence to look at the customers heater pipe as it was leaking as reported by the homeowner. During the roof replacement the pipe wasn't a part of the scope of work. Nonetheless, Mr. Genovese, sealed the pipe out of courtesy for the customer. On 9/24/13 Mr. Genovese returned to the residence to check out another reported leak. It was determined the source of the problem was a window over the garage. Mr. Genovese decided he would reflash wall on garage just to be on the safe side. There were no stains on the decking from underneath. On 11/15/13 Mr. Genovese returned to the property to complete the repair, however, the customers son informed him that they believed the leak was definitely coming from the window, and that the repair was not necessary. Apparently the customers son ran the hose in the area of the window which confirmed where the source of the leak was coming from. At that point a repair from Mr. Genovese wasn't necessary as the roof replacement didn't cause the leak. On 12/12/13 Mr. Genovese spoke to the customer via telephone to discuss the leak. Mr. Genovese informed, [member name removed], that her son identified the source of the leak being the window which is what he thought all along. [member name remove] said that there must have been a miscommunication with her and her son. At that point, [member name removed], informed, Mr. Genovese, that she hired another contractor to complete the repair. In Genovese Contracting's professional opinion the window was the source of the leak, not the roof. Mr. Genovese made several attempts to figure out exactly what the source of the problem really was. In the end it was determined the window was the issue. We are writing today to inform Angie's List that this situation was addressed on several occasions. Genovese has an excellent reputation with their customers, and we strive to make them happy. Our customers are always welcome to call the office to have any issues/questions addressed at any time. We're a family business, and wish to maintain our integrity for our customers. Hope Martin Genovese Roofing and Siding"
I spoke to Hope each time and she was very friendly and responsive to my requests. When they came out for the estimate they discovered some missing shingles off the roof and repaired them. I knew they were good when I asked to check for rotted wood beneath the damage and they came back and said there was no damage. Not all contractors are that honest! The final bill was within $20 of their quote...that also rarely happens with contractors.
Each of these delays was usually made to known to us either the day work was supposed to begin or even the day after. Needless to say, the effort to try and accommodate their continually changing schedule proved frustrating and tiresome. It just became ridiculous after a while. The quality of work was fine, but their responsiveness and punctuality left little to be desired. I can't say I would recommend them because of it. I had high hopes as they came out right before the hurricane to try and seal our pipe flanges with very late notice, and I was impressed with that.

After I showed him the problem he went on roof to inspect for damage. Turns out it wasn't a roof problem but a chimney problem.
Even though I didn't hire them this time they will be the company I will call for any future roof work..
if not a couple thousand dollars (with other roofer unqualified estimates). This has renewed my faith with
ethical, honest, and quality trade contractors! Thank you GENOVESE!
The job was originally scheduled for Wednesday, September 26th. It ended up being rescheduled I believe because another job ended up being more extensive than they originally thought, and then delayed again because of rain. There were a lot of back and forth emails and calls after that and what it basically came down to was that the job kept getting pushed back. It seemed like there was some confusion between Hope, the very sweet and helpful scheduler, and the foremen. I was eventually told that Brian (I believe the owner of the company) was going to be on the job himself, and was given a new date. This time (October 4th) they did arrive as scheduled, and a crew of about 3 guys started the work. Well I looked around and couldn't find Brian anywhere. It seemed that he had dropped off the crew and then left after a fairly short time. An hour or more later another foreman came to the property, but I only ever saw him sit in his truck while the crew continued to work. The end result was that only one of the two problem areas was addressed and my additional request to have some holes filled in from an old satellite dish wasn't addressed either.
When I realized the job hadn't actually been finished, I called up Hope and explained the situation. Several hours later she got back to me to let me know that they were very sorry and that Brian took personal responsibility for not communicating properly with the crew. I was informed they would be out the next morning to finish the job and fill in those additional holes as I had requested. I said I'd be willing to pay extra for that since it wasn't part of the original estimate, but they did not end up charging me for it. They did complete the job and I have no complaints about the quality of the work. It has rained several times since the work was done, and I have not noticed any water coming in. The house is completely open - gutted down to the studs, so there is really nowhere for the water to hide at this point.
I feel really conflicted writing this review. I was very happy with their previous work, have always been satisfied with my contact with Hope, and have found their work to be of good quality. However, the confusion regarding scheduling and the fact that the job was not actually performed fully until I complained make me hesitant to recommend them. I suspect that they are possibly taking on more clients than they can adequately handle in the time frames stated.
