Emmel Construction, LLC

I paid an initial downpayment of $8000 on 07/05/14 and work was to begin on 07/07/14. No one showed up until 07/09/14, but the work done on that day was fairly decent. Some wiring and plumbing was damaged when the drywall was removed. Since then no one has worked at the house and the contractor, John, is not responding to our calls, or the calls of the Winslow police. We were in touch with John through 07/18/14, but since then, nothing. I had to scramble to find another contractor who could start work immediately, since the house is currently unlivable without a bathroom. John had seemingly legitimate excuses a few times - a job in Baltimore that went over, and a job in Boston that also went over.
The last few times we were able to talk to John, he said he understood and, as a man of his word, would give me back the money not used on the one day of work. No money has been forthcoming and I have since filed charges in Winslow township against John. Initially I just believed he had over-extended himself on jobs, but I no longer care what the true story is. I am out $8000. To make matters worse, I am stuck with a very full dumpster in my driveway because he has not paid the dumpster company for eight dumpsters, and they will not remove them until they are paid for.
John's men did passable work on the one day, but I would not recommend Emmel Construction to anyone at this time.
