1ST IN COFFEE

The first customer service rep explained that no repairs are done outside of their service shop, that they would send me prepaid shipping instructions, that there would be a $60 bench fee for the repair. She then pointed out the obvious, that the coffee grinder cost about $60 so it would be easier for all of us if I just bought a new one. I emailed them a blistering complaint on their web site and within 20 minutes was called by the supervisor of customer service. Alas, all she could do is reiterate what I had already been told: no parts left the shop however easy they might be to install. I give them points for being so responsive in calling. I take away all those points and more for their unwillingness to let me buy a replacement knob. I have cobbled together a sort of knob after three visits to my local hardware store (cost $3.16) but I fear I will ultimately have to epoxy it to the shaft since it is at best an iffy fit. It's a magnificent machine but if I can't get it serviced at reasonable cost, I'll buy another line next time.
