iMr. Conti contacted me because he lived in Margate City up the street from our Condo. One of the owners in the building gave him my name. I thought it would be great to have someone who was in town do the work. I met with him and my designer and discussed what we proposed to do. This took a while as we could not find tile to replace the areas we wanted to change so we kept with the original configuration just taking down one wall to allow for a breakfast area. I had the walls removed 4 ft up and we lost all the cabinets in the kitchen, the vanity in the bathroom, all appliances and the rug in the bedroom. Since the walls were out we asked to see if the air conditioner could be moved and he assured me it was not a problem. I had window people install new windows. I was going to keep the tub and toilet but somehow it was destroyed during the construction. FEMA does not pay for that. We had no money from FEMA until recently so all the work was paid for out of pocket. When we met he said it could be completed in two weeks. That was Feb. We had to have sheathing replaced on the outside so it took longer before they would let us put the drywall up. He did electrical that he should not have done and left wires in the walls. They covered areas that they should not have covered and put molding where it should not have been but did not finish closets. They did paint but did a very sloppy job in the bedroom getting blue paint all over the baseboard, not painting the closet in LR and not finishing shelves. We made a special trip to meet with him about a little shelf that was there and was not replaced, he would not meet so we put marks on the wall that were painted over and then he said if he had to come back he would charge extra. He refused to give me receipts for things he said I had neglected to buy. I asked for my key to be returned and he said it is in the mail but that was a week ago and it has not arrived. I will probably have to change the locks again. I hope someone will see this and not use this company. On looking at the letterhead I realized that he has no address listed. The only reason I have an address in Margate is because I sent him a check to that address. He seems to be very responsible at first but watch out.
Description of Work: This man is very unprofessional. There is a lot of what is included in his contract that has not been done and what he did do is not top quality. He complains if you want to meet with him or if he needs to pick up materials. Says I am wasting his "man time" and that he did not know he had to jump and run if I called. We were an hour away and he told me everything would be completed by 4/8/13 and he still has not replaced the siding on the front of our Unit where he moved an air conditioner from the front to the side of the building. We were rebuilding from Super Storm Sandy and wanted to use our condo all year round. We had just bought in August last year. Between FEMA, our condo Assoc. and Mr. Conti we are still not finished. Our tub and toilet were ruined during the construction and had to be replaced. He said the one who tore out the place did it but I cannot be sure. There were live wires left in the wall and three times my electrician had to make a trip to the shore because he covered the bathroom ceiling with sheet rock when we asked him to leave it open. When my designer wanted to meet with him he refused to do so even when he was there for days at a time. I did not have him do our kitchen because it was cheaper to let Lowe's install and when I could not get Lowe's to change the delivery date he refused to open the door and we had to go down at 8 am to let them in. Yes, I had other issues with Lowe's as well about delivery etc. but I thought a contractor was supposed to pick things up if necessary, in fact he said he did that all the time but when we had to change the front door lock because they were two different keys and I asked him to pick it up after it was re-keyed he just said he was too busy and since I bought the wrong lock and he had already installed it he would not do it again. Beware of Robert Conti. I have never been taken before but I think the Super Storm has brought out all the unworthy contractors trying to make a buck.
