Westwood Construction of Southern NJ

The following is from an email that I sent to Westwood Construction regarding an electrical issue.

I have a serious situation that has come up as a direct result
of Westwood Construction?s renovations work at my home during the Spring &
Summer of 2014. 
               
This past Saturday, January 9, 2016, I came home at 1:00PM in the afternoon and
found that the wall between my kitchen and dining room no longer had power
going to the outlets, which meant that my refrigerator was off.  I called a local Electrical Contractor and
a licensed electricians, Mike, came to my home that afternoon to see
what was wrong.  Upon investigation with 6 outlets in the kitchen and
dining room, he found that the outlets had been wired incorrectly and in fact
the wires were loose resulting in a short.  The problem was that the
person who put in the outlets did not screw down the wires correctly and they
were just placed inside the outlet.  One of the outlets was hot to the
touch and  was removed because it was an obvious fire hazard.  Out of
the 6 outlets that he inspected 5 needed to be re-installed.  The only
outlet that was not incorrect was the one behind the refrigerator, which was
not replaced and in reality was the original outlet that was placed there when the home was built in 1979. 
When I had your company do the renovations, I had purchased all new outlets and
switches to be placed in my home.  I also asked that you install light
fixtures in the dining room, kitchen eating area, hall ways, and
bathrooms.  This only makes me concerned that if the outlets
were incorrectly wired, perhaps everything else is in question for
safety and should also be looked at. 
In the Fall of 2014 my front and back porch lights no longer worked.  At
that time I asked my brother to have someone come out to check it out. The
switch plate in the dining room that controls that room?s lights and
 several other locations including the front porch switch had to be replaced. The
back porch switch was also replaced.
            
Last summer 2015. I also had a short in the outlet next to the fireplace, which
was also replaced by a licensed electrician.  Not until this past Saturday,
did I tie everything together and came to the conclusion that all of this stems
back to your electrical work completed during the renovations of my home.
               
I am very lucky that my home did not burn down. 
Since my home is a twin and the other side of the twin is the home of my sister
? a house fire could have been a monumental disaster.

I found out after sending this email that this company is no longer is business.  JUST in case he decides to go back into business, I wanted you to know to please BEWARE.  If you have ANY work completed by this company, please make sure that you check to see that they are licensed to do the work that you need completed and that those licenses are in good order and current. This business owner is very nice and pleasant - but that doesn't stop a fire.
Don't find out the hard way.  My only other regret is this:  I should have been a member of Angie's list BEFORE I contracted this company.  Being a member is probably the best $29.99 I have ever spent.

I had contracted with another contractor on Angie's list and had a 9:00 appointment scheduled.  Other contractor did not show and when I called the office number got a message that they were on vacation until after the holidays.  I called a second number displayed and got an answering machine.  I needed the bookshelf secured because I had two children 1 and 3 years of age staying overnight and after getting new carpets it was tilting outward.    Finally around 9:30 the original contractor called and said that he was sorry he hadn't called the night before but he would not be able to keep the appointment due to another job and he might be able to come later but there were no guarantees.  I was upset and told him that I had contracted him and agreed to his price of $100 because of his status on Angie's list and I needed this done on that day since the boys were staying overnight.  He then contacted Westwood and passed the job to them and they called and showed up within an hour and completed the job by noon.  I would recommend this contractor for this type of work   Not sure what he would have charged if the amount was not previously agreed upon but it only took about 1/2 hour.
