As a Christmas gift, my husband surprised me with a groupon for house cleaning service.  Upon the day of the service, three women arrived.  I was asked what my priorities were because they only had one hour in which to work, as per the groupon, whithout any additional fees.  I explained that the floors were what I needed help most with.  Since there were three women, I added that if there was enough time, the upstairs bathroom would be my next request.  The women proceded to gather their supplies. went out to their vehicle a few times, and worked for about an hour and 20 minutes or so.  While they were working, I was doing my own household cleaning, laundry, etc.  I could help noticing that the one employee work continuously, and quietly, mopping the foyer floor and then the kitchen floor.  Another woman began wiping down the countertops in the kitchen and a few other surface areas.  During her cleaning, she stopped to go up stairs to ask the crew leader for something.  (The crew leader went right to the upstairs bathroom from the start. ) She then proceeded to "help" the leader with cleaning the bathroom.  This is a small bathroom with just enough floor space allowed between tub and sinks, (double standard sinks, side by side).  The toilet sits next to the sinks, parallel with the tub.  This bathroom is shared by two teenage daughters.  It was very cluttered, messy and serious need of cleaning.  The two women placed the majority of clutter in the hall and proceeded to "clean" the floor and the rest of the room.  While doing so, they were talking loudly and continuously.  Obviously had some personal grievances to share. This was not the time or place for that, expecially considering they had only one hour to clean.  I came upstairs with the intent to point out that they could accomplish more working separately, but I couldn't bring myself to say it .  They asked if I needed something.  I said no. When finished, the crew leader came to us with the cleaning checklist and invoice for signature.  I walked thru the 3 areas that they addressed and pointed out my disappointment.  The floors, in fact, had large dust balls and particles still all along the baseboards as well as spill/splatter marks in the kitchen.  The surfaces that were wiped were smeary as if a wet, dirty cloth was used and still there were smudges of food on the stove, that I later removed very easily with cloth and cleaner myself.  Upstairs, the tub and sinks and toilet looked as if they were just wiped out.  There was no scent of any cleanser.  There was still a ponytail holder in the drain of the tub.  There was conditioner residue on the shower tiles as well as plenty of unaddressed mildew.  I couldn't believe how unclean things still appeared to be.  I expressed this as simply, and considerately as possible.  The leader agreed, "I absolutely agree, I understand why you are disappointed, I would be too, etc.  It's just that I had a bad night and we only had an hour and I don't know what else to say, except I'm sorry and I hope you'll give us another chance.  My husband was there with me the whole time too.  We hate to stiff people so we did give 3 dollars each for at least the little bit that they did.  I was surprised that I did not receive a follow up phone call about how I felt the service was.  When I called back, there was still credit left on the groupon to be used, I was going to ask for a different crew for the duration and let the manager know why.  Surely he'd want to know because as they advertised, "we are committed to consistently deliver quality house cleaning..."  He surely would be losing business with workmanship that these women provided.  The manager quickly stated, before I said anything at all, that he was not going to honor the rest of our groupon and would not send anyone else out.  I couldn't believe it, he was accusing me of making the women uncomfortable, and my home was too much work for them.  Rediculous statements, no interest, whatsoever, in what I had to say about what actually took place. He actually was rude and dismissive to me!  I don't know how this man can stay in business.  I did call groupon immediately after speaking with the cleaning service manager.  Thankfully, groupon gave us a complete refund/credit applied to my husbands account.  BEWARE, his house cleaning service is called,"A BETTER House Cleaning" but his billing invoice was "A Better Janitorial Service"!!  This is definitely one cleaning service that is a waste of time and money!!!!
