I will be hiring them again in the future.
This time, of course, they're doing the upstairs bedrooms and bathrooms and they're continuing with their very exceptional professionalism.
They plan ahead well enough that each day they have time remaining to clean up and make the house as presentable as is possible under the circumstances. It's weird - I never see them rush but, at the end of each day, I'm surprised at how much was accomplished.
Hopefully we're at the end of our home improvement activities for a while but, if I need anything again, I'll call them without even discussing the work with anyone else.
David was a pleasure to work with. From providing an estimate through completion of the work, everything was handled timely and professionally. Very pleased with the quality of the work. I plan on using them again for similar work in my living room.
David came when he said he would and produced the overview and the estimate. He was the quintessential professional. He communicated often and completely. (Not like other contractors who do not call back or require being "chased" to get the information.) The estimate was under what others quoted, and inclusive for everything that we wanted done. If there was a change needed, or if the installers were going to be late or if one had to do a short off-site job that required arriving late or leaving early, we received a phone call from David the day before to let us know. (It only happened a few times in the month that the project took, and never seemed to interrupt the flow of the work or the amount of tasks that were accomplished.)
Because many of the items that we wanted (new octagon window, window molding, tub, toilets, sink/tub/shower faucets, mosaic tile inserts, tile, and paint colors) were special order, we decided to obtain the materials in advance so everything was here when the project started. Mill Pond provided the installation materials, lumber, backerboard, sheetrock, grout, and paint bushes, etcetera, and the installation labor. It was a great working relationship. We added a shower base in the middle of the project, but it was in stock locally, so we picked it up and the work continued without interruption. Yes, it did take a few trips to Home Depot / Lowe's for some stuff that was missing or suddenly was needed, but sometimes they picked it up on the way to the job, or we picked it up during the day. (Not a problem for us as Home Depot and Lowe's are less than 10 minutes away.)
Greg and Luke (the installers) were simply terrific. The first day we knew we had picked the right team! Before they did the initial walk through prior to starting the work, they removed their shoes at the door to avoid tracking anything in the house before the laid down the covers for the walkways and stairs which they removed and put back in place each day. Luke even fixed a loose socket before installing the drywall so there would not be problems down the road. Greg inspected each tile before placing it on the walls to be sure there were no bad edges or marks on the finish that would show upon completion of the job. We even convinced them to help us for a few minutes to lift our bed so we could straighten the oriental rug in the master bedroom. Greg and Luke were always willing to help and alter their path if we wanted to include/change something minor along the way. They were a great team and worked well together (They are brothers-in-law, so that helped!) They were constantly asking for our input regarding placement of bars, exactly how we wanted the tile laid out, whether we wanted the doors painted with a roller or with brush strokes showing, etcetera so they could do it right the first time.
Part of the process included replacing the 50 year old valves for all of the sinks, tub, shower, and toilets. As it turned out, there were no shut off valves for the showers in either bathroom. In fact, there was not even an access panel for the master bath. Greg/Luke suggested putting in the valves since they had the walls open anyway, and found a great and inexpensive panel to use to cover the access area without the expense of framing the hole. It is perfect, and now we have the "emergency" access we hope we never have to use.
Did we like the results? YES!
Would we have them back again? ABSOLUTELY!
When David returns to collect the final payment (he waits until the job is complete and we are satisfied before asking for the money!), he is bringing along an estimate to refurbish our back porch. We are looking at some other projects down the road, and would not consider calling anyone else. Our son owns a few rental properties, and is looking to have the bathroom in his own home done in the next few months - he is expecting to use Mill Pond for the work.
The job was done three days later and it really looks good.
