Paris Electric was called in to evaluate our electric service prior to a final decision to install central air conditioning. They were subcontractors to our air conditioning contractor (see separate review). Our electric service had not been upgraded since the house was constructed, about 40 years ago. All of the available circuits were being used, and the circuit breaker box was located in a closet. Several electricians had proposed installing a sub panel, and at least one said that the closet would have to be torn down before anything could be done. Gary Paris, one of the owners, took one quick look at the existing setup, and concluded that even if he could figure out a way to install a sub panel that technically complied with the electric code, he would not do it. In his judgment, the existing box already contained too many wires. Instead, he thought of a way to convert the existing box into something called a junction box, which could be sealed shut and left in place. That would eliminate the need to destroy the closet. He then proposed to run wires from that box to a new, larger box, which would be located outside the closet. Based on his proposal, we decided to proceed with the central air installation. Gary's brother, Teddy, and an assistant arrived the morning after the air conditioning equipment had been installed. They replaced the outside cable with one capable of carrying more current, installed a new circuit breaker box next to the closet, and ran the necessary wiring to it. They removed about 5 feet by 3 feet of sheet rock, but replacing that sheet rock is a very easy thing to do. In fact, the sheet rock was so carefully removed that it can be used to repair the wall. When they had finished, they vacuumed the area and went outside to make sure that no debris had been left on the lawn. This is a small family-owned company. They are exceptionally competent, and it was a pleasure to have them in our home.
