Fredrick J PUMO & Son INC

Went well.  I was initially impressed with the contractor's professional approach to the contact.  His bid was competitive (although not quite the low bidder) and all was in order.  What most impressed me and why I chose Mr. Pumo (Rick) over the low bidder was his honesty and professional approach to the contract.  He offered, without my asking about it, a 5% with hold on each payment, and used the AIA contract forms.  His change order procedures were transparent and honest.  He did not gouge me on changes, rather was up front about the costs.  We were able to agree quickly on virtually every cost.
Through out the process Rick was in charge and insured all was done properly.  When I had questions or noted that work was not as specified, he immediately corrected it to my satisfaction which in two cases involved removal of already-installed items.  Note:  This company does not have any skilled workers and he uses subs for all work.  But they are nearly all top notch.  In fact, I'd not only use him to be the general contractor on other projects, but, except for one or two of the subs, I'd welcome each sub back.  
I was overall very pleased with his work and especially his contracting procedures.  I was comfortable throughout the nearly year long project that I was getting quality work and that Rick individually and Pumo & Son as a company was not doing anything that would jeopardize our relationship.  
Trusting the general is paramount in getting a good job.  I trusted Rick and his subs.  I got good work at a fair price.  We both benefited.
The only problem was with the kitchen cabinet sub that Rick recommended.  Not a part of the original contract, we added it since I chose to use his recommended cabinet fabricator/installer.  The sub was unsatisfactory and both Rick and I were surpized and disappointed.  I have not downgraded Rick Pumo for that contractor's work but have reported on that subcontractor separately.  
Overall, for larger jobs, Rick Pumo is a good, honest, and trustworthy source of work.
