Extensive prep work was done.  The uneven gaps between boards of the old plank ceiling were first caulked and then spackled.  The walls and perimeter shelf was spackled and then everything was sanded.  One coat of primer was applied, then a coat of  latex on the ceiling and walls was done.  Finally, a high gloss paint was used on the trim and shelving.  The finished room looked like brand new construction rather than a 30 year-old converted screened-in porch.
