+ -1 more.I am generally pleased with the DSL service that Verizon offers in this area. There are not many major service outages that last for hours at a time. I think the longest that I had to wait due to an outage was about 24 hours. There are occasional short outages of about an hour or less about once or twice a month but that is to be expected with any Internet Service Provider. Verizon DSL does have good technical help on the phone. I also believe they have the remote control option of a person's computer so their technicians can help diagnose connectivity problems (I'm not sure about this, though. I rarely have to contact them regarding a technical issue. The service is pretty reliable so I don't remember if they ever had to remotely control my computer). Sometimes the service is slower at different times of the day. I note speeds as low as 6K/sec. It's mostly around 12 - 15 K/sec. Sometimes it?s as high as 20 - 22 K/sec or higher. Overall, the slow-rate times occur only for one, maybe two hours in a day. You can usually work around the slow periods by doing something else or just wait until the connection becomes faster. As mentioned above, they have pretty good technical service. One time there was an area-wide outage that I learned about over the local news. It took them about one day to correct the system-wide problem. They were considerate of their customers after that outage because I remember receiving a phone call from Verizon DSL saying that there was a system-wide outage in my area, the problem was corrected and if I did experience any problems then I should contact their technical help. So, they do care about their customers.
Description of Work: This review is for DSL Internet Service from Verizon. I couldn't make a new entry for Verizon DSL for my particular location because I don't know the address, telephone number , etc. of the local Verizon DSL office. I am using this New Jersey address after speaking with an Angie's list representative who said to use the New Jersey entry even though it is not my local Verizon DSL provider.

+ -1 moreGood quality service, as long as nothing goes wrong (IE, weather). They take forever to schedule, and the voice mail system is HORRIBLE. Can't really beat the price when you bundle it with other service, though.

Description of Work: DSL SERVICE. HAD SERVICE AT ONE ADDRESS & WHEN I MOVED I WAS QUOTED 3 WEEKS TO TRANSFER SERVICE, BUT IT ENDED UP BEING 5 WEEKS. I ALSO HAD SERVICE DROP MULTIPLE TIMES FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED I HAD TO CALL MULTIPLE TIMES TO GET TO A REPRESENTATIVE THAT WAS HELPFUL. IN TRYING TO RESOLVE MY CONNECTION ISSUES, THEY BROUGHT A SECOND REPRESENTATIVE ON THE PHONE WHO YELLED AT THE FIRST REPRESENTATIVE & THEN HUNG UP- NOT REALLY MY IDEA OF GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE NOR A GOOD WAY TO TREAT YOUR CO-WORKERS. SWITCHED TO SPEAKEASY DSL & HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS.

+ -1 moreSIGN UP WAS EASY ONLINE (FROM WORK) AND THEY MAILED MY MODEM AND INSTRUCTIONS IN A DAY OR TWO. I'VE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH SERVICE AT ALL. SPEEDY CONNECTION TO THE INTERNET AT MY DISCRETION. VERIZON WEBSITE HAS GOOD TROUBLESHOOTING AREA, BUT I'VE NOT USED IT.

+ -1 moreVERIZON DSL FAILED MISERABLY IN MEETING THEIR REPEATED PLEDGES TO RECTIFY THEIR SET-UP FAILINGS IN INITIATING OUR DSL SERVICE. I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND AGAINST USING THEM FOR INTERNET SERVICE, TO ANYONE.
Description of Work: THEY MAILED THE SET-UP KIT, BUT IT LACKED THE INSTALLATION CD. WHEN THEY SENT THE CD, IT WAS NOT OVERNIGHTED, DESPITE THEIR PLEDGE. WHEN IT FINALLY ARRIVED, WE LEARNED FROM THE CD THAT WE ALSO LACKED NECESSARY FILTERS FOR OUR PHONES. THEY ALSO FAILED TO OVERNIGHT THESE, DESPITE THEIR ADDITIONAL PLEDGE. THEY ARE ALSO VERY DIFFICULT TO REACH ON THE PHONE, VIA THEIR 800 SERVICE. IN CONTRAST, WHEN WE FINALLY GAVE UP ON THEM, WE HAD A CABLE COMPANY SET UP AN APPOINTMENT DATE, SHOWED UP PRECISELY, AND OUR INTERNET SERVICE INSTANTLY WORKED. VERIZON WAS CHEAPER, BUT NOT WORTH THE MANY HOURS OF FRUSTRATION AND LACK OF SERVICE.
