"HI [Member Name Removed], I’m sorry we failed to meet your expectations, but I would like to take a moment to qualify some things regarding your review. First, we always operate in a manner that allows us to provide permanent solutions only. The circumstances regarding your chimney were indications of a Level II inspection, and this was based on poor actions taken on the chimney previously. We could not in good conscience make a recommendation to just replace a chase cover once this evidence was discovered. To be technical, your chimney chase contains factory built fireplace and chimney systems, and at some point, masonry was used to make repairs. Masonry in contact with these components causes a reactive situation with the metal systems. It is our job to perform the minimum standard of care, and for this, it would be level II chimney inspection. That service does have a cost associated with it. Second, if my technician gave off red flags, for that I apologize and will be corrected. Sometimes factual information can be perceived as scare tactics, even if the information is only meant to educated. We are in the life safety and loss prevention business, so it is important for us to act with professionalism while communicating our findings. Finally, I am understanding that my office did send pictures to you. If this did not happen in a timeline that met your expectations, for that I apologize again. My office staff does not have access to the technician files, so there is a process that had to be taken which took a couple of days. Also, my technicians notes indicated that you would let us know if you wanted to proceed with Level II inspection, and therefore, we improperly assumed that we were waiting for your go ahead. Best, Bill Ryan"
"Thank you Mr. [Member Name Removed], it was a pleasure doing business with you. Best, Bill and staff"
We thought, as anyone would , that if we are paying $300 for an inspection we would get a written report. However, that was not the case. We called multiple times and were told that because we were not having the inspection completed for house buying purposes an inspection report was not completed. Had we known that, my husband would have taken notes or better yet, we would have gone to another company. We were told the inspector would write up the inspection and we agreed to pay additional for it. Crazy I know!
After some time passed we were told that he was not able to write up the report. When I asked for a portion of our money back, I was offered a new appointment. We refused.
What I learned, there is NO reason anyone should pay for a quote for work to be done on their house. There are too many contractors who will happily give you a free quote.
"Dear [Member Name Removed], When you originally made contact with us, you had some reservations about the costs- my office manager offered you the level II inspection without the report price. It was a miscommunication and we offered to come back at no cost to record the necessary pictures to provide a report. I'm not sure why you declined, we didn't have any other way to meet your expectations. An estimate is significantly different than an inspection. We regret your dissatisfaction ,but thank for your honest review. We have changed policy since your concern and no longer offer a level II inspection without a report. Best of luck with your chimney Sincerely, Bill Ryan"
