They got here quickly, were friendly and did the work in an hour and a half. But they sent two guys for a one man job, thus charging me twice as much. This happened two years ago and a single plumber cleared the line in an hour and a half and charged $220. Messick charged $606. When I complained the owner said it is their policy to send two men. When I was younger I did this my self and it's a one man job. I'll never use them again.

Horrible. I spoke to another plumber at the company. He quote me a hour's worth of work plus their service charge for about $200 plus. The plumber who came stated he had to rip through wall and it would be much then the price that was quoted.I did not have him do the work. He gave me a bill for $200. Unethical, immoral, especially at this strategic time. Learn from my experience, don't be taking advantage of.

The plumber did show up as scheduled on a 11/3/12, a Saturday, for emergency service. He described the leak as coming from the water softener valve (which had a very minimal drip), not the overhead steam pipe. But the leak WAS from the overhead steam pipe. He turned off the water at the well pump and shut the heat down (oil steam radiators) and unplugged the water softener. This took all of ten minutes. He required the pet sitter to pay upfront upon arriving at our home. We had been customers of Messick Plumbing before and had several thousand dollars worth of work done in the past. When I called to discuss the bill, Mr. Messick said this was an "overtime call for emergency service" and charged us for 2 hours of travel at overtime rates of $180/hour. His office is 2.7 miles away! (The plumber on-call did live further away). I proposed a compromise for our extreme dissatisfaction with this very high charge to Mr. Messick by asking him to credit some of the bill towards the cost of replacing the steam pipe. He was not amenable to this except he would waive the usual $75 "travel charge." Our phone discussion took place on 12/7/12. We arrived home from vacation on Thanksgiving Day with no water, no heat.

Could not have gone better. from the people I spoke to on the phone the installers all were professional, courteous and sympathetic to the situation of being without heat. Rich the main installer replaced the thermostat at no extra charge as he found that the existing thermostat was not compatible. I cannot overstate my satisfaction with this company. Also it's nice to be able to patronize a small/family business instead of one of those huge plumbing & heating companies that charge an extra 33% because they put booties on their feet.

My septic tanks were pumped the day before and they installed 2 risers with covers on already dug up septic tank.
The install was just ok. One of the riser wasn't even centered and they did a bad job back filling the hole just throwing the dirt
loosely without compacting it around the risers. The problem was that the main installer was extremely rude with bad attitude.

I don't think that I will use them again because I paid a lot of money just to fix a nozzle. They spent 30 seconds to make a an adjustment and charged me $180.00

Response from Michael J Messick Plumbing Heating & Air

"[member name removed], We are sorry you were not satisfied with our service on February 5, 2014. According to our records you called for too much salt in your water from your water softening system. Our plumber investigated the problem. He adjusted the salt setting and the back wash schedule. We understand your frustration with the time involved to make the adjustment. Our billing policy is like most professional service contractors. We charge a minimum of one (1) hour with a service charge and state sales tax. After the adjustment to your water softener, our plumber spent time with you explaining what had been done and answering any questions you might have had. We welcome questions and comments from our customers after the job is done. We are happy to provide 24/7 emergency service for our customers who always get a live person when they call. We thank you for your business and hope to do business with you again."

We called Richard Yard.  He looked in the tank and noted that when the new pump was installed, instead of rewiring it the existing wiring was spliced  and not properly connected - so poorly there was no connectivity to the pump.  He asked to see the pump they had replaced but they had taken it away.  He rewired it for $150 and 5 years later it is still operating perfectly.

We called Michael Messick to complain about what had been done and what we were charged and spoke to a number of individuals including a 'supervisor'.  They refused to acknowledge they had done anything wrong or to give a cost concession of any kind.  We filed a complaint with American Express, who ultimately didn't know enough about septics etc to cover the claim.  I also complained to the Better Business Bureau.  Beware of this company.  They take advantage of the fact that often people are not educated enough about how these things work to question what they do.

First the good: Company has 24 hour emergency service and a fairly large staff. If you have a burst pipe in the middle of the night and you need someone immediately, they may be your best (only?) option. Sometimes it can be tough to get plumbers on the phone in an emergency - these guys will take your call, and probably can respond quickly.

The less good:

Company bills hourly and if the job isn't going well, those charges can add up. In my case the job wasn't completed but I ended up with a fairly stiff bill.

As far as I can tell there is nothing really wrong with Messick's plumbers - they seemed like good guys, will show up when they say, and they'll do their best to fix your problem. It is however on your dime if things drag on time-wise, and unfortunately that is what happened in my case.

I have used Michael J Messick Plumbing & Heating Inc., several times over the 14 years in my house.  Each time they have done an exceptional job, and even more importantly, they stand by their work, and do not hesitate to come back out to fix any issues that they may have caused.  That said, I have never had issues with any of the work they have done.  This last job, done by their plumber, Rob, was once again done to perfection!  Besides the great work that was done, Rob himself was polite, very knowledgeable, and professional.  I would highly recommend Michael J Messick Plumbing & Heating Inc., to anyone that needs this type of work.

We had a good experience with that.  It was a local guy.  They are efficient.  They are competent with what I ask them to do.  The workers that came out were fine.  They were friendly, efficient, and did what we needed done.

The service and the professionalism of this contractor is outstanding. They come when you ask them to come, they clean up well when they are finished, and I am always satisfied with the work they do. I would recommend them to others and continue to use them myself.
