The install was just ok. One of the riser wasn't even centered and they did a bad job back filling the hole just throwing the dirt
loosely without compacting it around the risers. The problem was that the main installer was extremely rude with bad attitude.
I don't think that I will use them again because I paid a lot of money just to fix a nozzle. They spent 30 seconds to make a an adjustment and charged me $180.00
"[member name removed], We are sorry you were not satisfied with our service on February 5, 2014. According to our records you called for too much salt in your water from your water softening system. Our plumber investigated the problem. He adjusted the salt setting and the back wash schedule. We understand your frustration with the time involved to make the adjustment. Our billing policy is like most professional service contractors. We charge a minimum of one (1) hour with a service charge and state sales tax. After the adjustment to your water softener, our plumber spent time with you explaining what had been done and answering any questions you might have had. We welcome questions and comments from our customers after the job is done. We are happy to provide 24/7 emergency service for our customers who always get a live person when they call. We thank you for your business and hope to do business with you again."
We called Richard Yard. He looked in the tank and noted that when the new pump was installed, instead of rewiring it the existing wiring was spliced and not properly connected - so poorly there was no connectivity to the pump. He asked to see the pump they had replaced but they had taken it away. He rewired it for $150 and 5 years later it is still operating perfectly.
We called Michael Messick to complain about what had been done and what we were charged and spoke to a number of individuals including a 'supervisor'. They refused to acknowledge they had done anything wrong or to give a cost concession of any kind. We filed a complaint with American Express, who ultimately didn't know enough about septics etc to cover the claim. I also complained to the Better Business Bureau. Beware of this company. They take advantage of the fact that often people are not educated enough about how these things work to question what they do.
First the good: Company has 24 hour emergency service and a fairly large staff. If you have a burst pipe in the middle of the night and you need someone immediately, they may be your best (only?) option. Sometimes it can be tough to get plumbers on the phone in an emergency - these guys will take your call, and probably can respond quickly.
The less good:
Company bills hourly and if the job isn't going well, those charges can add up. In my case the job wasn't completed but I ended up with a fairly stiff bill.
As far as I can tell there is nothing really wrong with Messick's plumbers - they seemed like good guys, will show up when they say, and they'll do their best to fix your problem. It is however on your dime if things drag on time-wise, and unfortunately that is what happened in my case.
