The job was completed on September 2013. The area where the driveway meets the garage floor is raised above the level of the garage floor to the point where water collects in the garage, unable to drain away. Due to raised edge of the new pavement and improper grading, I now have a water issue in my garage when it rains or when snow melts. When the job was complete, Dan said he would come back and take care of it if I had a problem.
Cracks were filled and the driveway was sealcoated at the same time. When they finished, all looked o.k. but within a few months (3 to be exact), the sealcoating began to wear off. I paid extra because I was told the "airport grade" was better and would last longer, so that's what I went with. As I write this 7 months later, much of the sealcoating is completely worn off; didn't even last a year.
Cracks that were filled are again cracked, like the repairs never happened. On top of that, areas where the pavement was cut out and replaced, developed cracks from the edges of the patches to the edge of the driveway.
I began calling D&R in February (5 months after the job was completed) to ask them to come back and take a look at the situation with the water in the garage. After a month, and 3 messages left by me, Dan from D&R left me a message saying they were "on vacation" and would be back in 10 days and that he would be happy to take care of the situation (this was now early march). 10 days came and went; 3 weeks came and went and I called again and left a message in early April. Dan returned the call and left me a message saying he would be up running in 2 weeks and would call to set up an appointment. Still nothing. Finally, early in May, I called again, was able to speak with Dan and he said he would come out sometime that week. He did.
Dan's fix for the water issue was a drain, running along the top of the driveway where it meets the garage, and tie into a downspout. Problem is, the downspouts are above ground and water doesn't run uphill. Then he said would dig a trench and let it drain out onto the front lawn. This seemed a little invasive because of underground sprinkler lines. I mentioned that, and he said (and I quote) "you (meaning me) would have to deal with that" When I tried to explore other options with him, he headed for his truck and left. While he was walking I tried to tell him there were other issues (those mentioned above) that I wanted him to look at. No answer....just got in his truck and left. Real professional.
Since my last encounter with D&R, I?ve had 3 driveway contractors look at the work and give me estimates for repairs. All of them couldn?t believe the lack of attention D&R had with regard to proper grading and the rest of the work that was done.
BUYER BEWARE....D&R does shoddy work and doesn't back it up. To make matters worse, they couldn't care less about their customer's satisfaction and obviously their reputation. If you as a consumer are fortunate enough to read this before hiring D&R, I hope you'll have enough sense to steer clear. As for me, it was a $3,000 dollar lesson in aggravation and frustration.
I waited this long to write my review because I wanted to give Dan the benefit of the doubt. It was my hope that he would take care of the issues. Instead, when he realized this was not going to be an easy fix, he became very defensive and agitated. This review is 100% on the mark. I?m sure his post review comments will dispute this but the bottom line is this?. the work was substandard and so is the attitude. I invite anyone to look at the issues in person to back up my review.
"so sorry we could not satisfy your standards please accept my sincere appology Dan"
"some areas in Sparta are high water table and under water springs, no amount of gravel or asphalt will fix that ,i have done every thing that we agreed upon signed contract, the work was properly installed, we weren't hired to address all the under water problem's, some customers can not under stand that and some just cant be satisfied."
"I have no control of the asphalt plants hours of operation, and i do come back to do repairs and i try to do the best to make every customer satisfied, but unfortunately i can not, sorry for inconvenience."
