I contacted Gary Solomon at Hauptman to have a my floors refinished and the whole experience was a pleasure. From the start, he was very upfront with pricing and how long it would take to complete the job. My floors are very old (100 years) and they made them look brand new again. I even had to have some repairs done due to a leaking radiator and somehow they managed to match brand new wood with 100 year old wood. I highly recommend this company for all flooring needs. I will use again.

Hauptman did a fantastic job, the floors look amazing. Gary was very responsive from my first call to the end of the job. He fit me in with short notice and the job was started and completed exactly when he said it would be. Cost was very reasonable, staff professional and job well done. I highly recommend their services.

I called Doug Solomon at HAUPTMAN FLOOR COVERING on April 17 to obtain a quote for my project. Doug suggested that I come into the store to see samples of various products. Later that afternoon, I drove to 307 CENTRAL AVE, Jersey City, NJ 07307 and met with Doug to discuss several options for 3 separate projects. I was interested in the cost of installing luxury vinyl tile, bamboo planks, cork flooring, re-sanding the existing hardwood floors with the possibility of using area rugs or just replacing the existing carpeting with new ones.
An appointment was made for April 20th so that Doug could come to the project site to take measurements. Doug was extremely friendly and professional when I met him again on the 20th. He brought carpet samples, a measuring tape, paper, and a pen. The 3rd project was cork or bamboo planks in my home but I was forced to push that project back 6-12 months and let Doug know so he didn't have to rush. He said that he would work on the quotes for my projects and sent me a detailed email on April 27th and the other project on May 4th.
I visited Hauptman Floor Covering again on April 29th and after discussing the options with Doug I put a deposit on my project and ordered the nylon carpet in the color (cork which turned out to be a brownish neutral) that I wanted. We were aiming to have the installation done as soon as possible as I wanted to have the rental back on the market by May 15th. The nylon carpet which was at a warehouse in Georgia would arrive by May 7th, the commercial carpet remnant for the staircase was already in stock at the store.
On May 5th, I got a call after the store closed around 6pm by Gary Solomon (the store owner) who stated that someone had cancelled an installation and was wondering if they could start early on the 6th. While it would have been perfect to have started earlier, my cell phone service didn't deliver me the message until 9pm on May 6th.
Marty and Anthony were at the jobsite by 9.30 am on May 7th and 8th. Both were professional and friendly to me as I stayed in the apartment the entire time that they were there. Anthony was more taciturn, stating that Marty was his boss. Marty confirmed that the carpet in the stairway stunk of cat urine. By the end of the first day, they had 2 rooms finished and the other rooms padded. The second day, both Marty and Anthony skipped lunch so that they could finish the project earlier so that they could go home to enjoy their Friday evening with their families.
Overall, I'm satisfied with my experience with Hauptman Floor Covering in Jersey City and I look forward to using them again for my home project for Wicander cork or Bamboo plank flooring.

The owner came to my home to measure and provide a free estimate for installing a carpet runner on my steps, an area rug in my dining room and another runner in my hallway entrance (after I selected my carpet style from their showroom). All of the staff I dealt with were courteous and calls were returned in a timely manner. The installation went well and the carpets that were made to order were well bound. The staff willingly moved back my dining table and chairs after the carpet was rolled out. Overall positive experience, which included quality carpet and service.

The job was perfect. The workmen were professional, prompt and knowledgeable. BUT the best was yet to come. Shortly after the job was done, we had an accident and dripped some bleach on the new carpet, leaving a trail of discolored spots all over the house. When we called Hauptman for advice, the owner came over, got on his hands and knees and trimmed out every single discolored spot. The carpet looks as good as new AND he wouldn't take any money. We would recommend these guys in a minute to anyone looking for quality service at a fair price.

Hauptman Carpets installed wall to wall carpet and honeycomb vertical blinds for my master bedroom.
Gary Solomon and his team provided great service and professional guidance (which I really needed) in this last step in my and quot;Sandyand quot; recovery. They were helpful, timely and patient. Materials were as ordered and installed perfectly.
I will use Hauptman Carpets again and recommend them to others without hesitation.

I first got an estimate from Home Depot but Hauptman was a couple of hundred dollars cheaper and were more informative. Told them we were getting new carpets as part of our getting the house ready for a new baby and they recommended a spill/stain resistant brand. We never knew they made spill resistant carpets. On installation day, the installers were pleasant, knew what they were doing, and did an awesome job and the carpets look and feel great.
