July 2020 For those looking to install a mini-split ductless system in their homes, you need look no further than Marty from Spangle Bros. and Mitsubishi ductless. Do your research, shop around, troll the internet for the best system and you will always end up back at Mitsubishi for ductless Heating and cooling. There are many good brands out there but none with the stellar reputation for reliability and performance. Once you’ve resigned yourself to the above fact, the only other call you need to make is Marty @ Spangle Bros. for your install. Ever get that feeling when you meet someone for the first time that you know this will be a good fit? Yeah, that’s Marty. Spoke late on a Monday, met the next Tuesday morning, install started that Thursday and was finished Saturday morning. Four total interior head units: kitchen, living room and two upstairs bedrooms along with the exterior condenser. A little background... We own an original Sears & Roebuck house from 1927 that’s about 95% original save for most of the mechanicals and the newly installed siding. Siding that my wife and I scrimped and saved for years because we wanted something that was period correct for the time. It was one of our most expensive upgrades to date. Being an old house, air conditioning had always been a struggle. Drag the window units out of hibernation, shove them in the windows, crank them on high and still be uncomfortable. We knew that a mini-split system was in our future but we didn’t want the standard spider web type install scattered all over the outside of our brand new siding, essentially ruining the original look of the home. After meeting with Marty to review the job, I immediately knew he was ‘My guy’. This was not a salesperson, this was going to be the actual person drilling through walls in my house! I was talking to ‘THE GUY’! There was no “well...I think the installer can…” “let me call the supervisor and check”.... “We won’t know for sure until they start installation”... and on and on. We discussed in great detail exactly how each of the four line sets were to run and clever ways to minimize their visibility on the exterior of our home. Being an engineer myself I am an absolute stickler for details and workmanship. Marty exuded that same sense of detail and care in our initial meeting and conversations that within the first 10 minutes of meeting and listening to him I knew he was the one. The install was, in a word, spectacular! Because of his many years experience installing these systems, Marty has the knowledge base to know what works and what doesn’t. The plans laid out in our initial conversation were spot on and even a last minute change by me to try and further conceal exterior piping was taken in stride by Marty. Each room he worked in was left dust and debris free the second he left it. He kept me informed every step of the way with regards to how the installation was progressing and again, because he’s done this for years, there were absolutely no hiccups throughout the entire install. Every interior unit is exactly where we discussed, plumed and level perfectly. The visible piping on the back of the house is also meticulously horizontal and vertical and aligns dead on with some of the exterior details of the house. The line sets that feed into the exterior condenser are “Tetris like” in their placements, each fitting neatly in and around the other like military precision! Marty’s attention to detail and installation prowess was superb! For those looking for a similar install, save yourself the time, effort and angst calling around and dealing with ‘salespeople’. Go to the source, call Marty at Spangle Bros. You seriously will not be disappointed. Thanks Spangle Bros. and thanks Marty! Nuno & Theresa, Colonia NJ

Marty was on time and extremely professional when he came to our home to give us a quote. He laid out his plans for our home and explained to us the different options available and his recommendations. We agreed on a plan and gave him a deposit a couple of days later. Within 4 days of giving Marty the deposit he was ready to begin work. The installation took about 5 days. Marty was working in our home while we were at work and if we didn't see the heads on the walls you'd never have even known he was there. He is a very neat and precise worker. I really can't believe the difference in comfort in our home after having this system installed. It's an incredible transformation. Marty gave us a call about a week after completing the work to get our thoughts on the system and his work. I'd highly recommend Marty to anyone looking to install a Mitsubishi system in their home.

Marty was very professional. He showed up when he said he would, purchased the equipment timely and got started almost as soon as we were ready to go. He paved the way to easy financing and we were able to put down a partial but hefty downpayment.
Marty did all the work himself with my husband in the home supervising who found him to be neat and efficient and willing to go into the somewhat unpleasant "crawl space" that we have between the basement and first floor in order to ensure adequate and unsighly wiring for the outside units. I believe he had to do that three times in order to finish the job. The system is truly amazing and i am happy to say that after discussing both central air and the Mitsubishi system, which Marty personally recommended, we are very happy to have not gone the route of central air and duct work. We also opted for the system that can also produce heat and he explained to us that we may want to go through an entire winter and see whether or not we even have to turn on the gas burner heat before we make any decisions about removing radiators, etc. So that remains to be seen.
The whole installation was done in about 4 days time (he came on consecutive days with no "lag" time) and all completed by about the end of May 2013. So we are one month into it and everything is working beautifully. The house is cool as cucumber and its amazing how these slim line units just remove the humidity.
Marty explained the maintenance that needs to be done (cleaning of filters by homeowners monthly) and when to call him for any service related problems. We have a 2 year warranty on the job. He has promised to make himself available for any servicing that needs to be done. We do have lots of pets and we understand that there may be periodic need for the fans within the unit removed and serviced. He did not require a service contract to secure his willingness to return to the house for any issues.
We were very pleased and would highly recommend this contractor and this system for anyone contemplating this kind of home improvement.

Since 2009, 5 of the "heads" have leaked, multiple times. Marty tried for 3 years to figure out the problem, but he could not. Finally in 2011, because of the repeated leaks, my patience being pushed to the limit, and I really believed the units were "lemons", I demanded Marty have someone from Mitsubishi inspect the units. In November 2011, a representative from Mitsubishi inspected the units and determined the leaks were because of an "installation error". Marty installed 5 of the units incorrectly, which is why they are leaking. The units are not defective, the installation is the problem.
Since it was mid November (2011), I told Marty "it's 2 weeks before Thanksgiving, winter's coming... I'm turning the units off and I'll see you in the spring. I'll call you in March (2012) to set up at time for you to come and "fix whatever needs to be fixed so these units stop leaking." He agreed. Fast forward to March 2012 - I called Marty several times March, no reply. I sent him e-mails; no reply. I called Marty several times in April, no reply. I sent him e-mails, no reply. I called Marty in May several times. He returned 1 call, said he was "really busy" and would call me in 2 weeks....I sent him another e-mail in July. It's mid-August, 2012 and I still haven't heard back from him.
Marty Spangle has been hiding behind voice mail and e-mail. He will not respond to my e-mails or phone calls, and, more importantly, he hasn't been back to fix the problems. Marty is an example of why small independent contractors get a bad reputation - they take the money and you never hear or see them again when there's a problem, especially if they are responsible for the problem. That's exactly what he did. He's disappeared. I would never recommend The Spangle Brothers to anyone. Marty is unprofessional. Really, what "professional" hides behind voice mail and doesn't to fix a problem, especially one that he's responsible for. I paid top dollar to have a job done right. He didn't do the job right, got called out on it by Mitsubishi and won't come back to fix it. That's his reputation. No one is perfect, but, if you get paid to do a job and you make a mistake, fix it! I don't think that's too much to expect. I would never recommend The Spangle Brothers, or the Mitsubishi Mr. Sliim product, ever to anyone.

Marty showed up to provide a quote, and was extremely knowledgeable on every aspect of HVAC. You can tell he knows what he is talking about, and when discussing some more complicated topics of HVAC, such as different tests to check the efficacy of a system, he knew all of it. He isn't just some guy who decided to start installing AC units -- obviously has a background and education in this field. He was very professional, and was the only contractor to actually put on booties before walking around the inside of our house, so I was saved the displeasure of having to vacuum up any dirt that other would have contractors tracked in. His price was around the middle of most estimates I received, and while I did pay a bit more than the very cheapest, he did a fantastic job and the quality of the job was well worth the money paid. Post install, everything was vacuumed up nicely, he scrubbed down the walls, showed me how to operate the units, and everything was great.
One thing that really amazed me was that about a week after the install, he gave me a call to check how everything was running and if I was happy with the job -- it's really rare that you find anybody in the service industry with that kind of customer interaction talent, but these guys got it. Will absolutely do business with them again, when needed.

They were excellent. We have used them twice. They came quickly and did what they said they were going to do. They are very neat and very professional.
