My kitchen flooded over the winter, and instead of putting it back the way it was, I decided it was time to gut the kitchen and start over. I wanted to re-use my existing cabinets, but everything else was going to be redone. Since I was able to raise the ceiling height by two feet, as well as create a cathedral ceiling, I knew that my cabinet capacity could be increased. I was very troubled, though, but how to reuse my cabinets and augment with new cabinets. I hadn't planned on using a designer, but Margot came into my life, and helped me immensely. She totally appreciated what I was trying to do, and listened to the ideas I already had. She totally respected my wishes to re-use the cabinets (not only was this a huge cost savings, but I legitimately liked my cabinets). She asked me lots of questions that I had never considered to ask, then basically guided me through how to augment cabinets without making it look "thrown together" (we accomplished this with an open shelving plan). She was kind of "along for the ride" as I had a lot of my own ideas, but she really helped me get off the ball with the decision making process. I am looking forward to utilizing her full expertise with an upcoming bathroom remodel (also damaged in the flood), and will turn the reins over to her completely for the full design.
