Lil johns construction

The retaining wall at the rear of the property is holding up. Everything else has or is falling down. There was no mesh placed over the retaining wall that was resurfaced so the concrete he put on it has just cracked and has fallen off. He insisted we did not need the mesh. We wanted the deck replaced exactly as it was. He made it smaller, put less supports under it (no one is comfortable sitting on it, it shakes), rearranged the stairs so one flight was wider than the other. The more narrow one was set on an angle. The wider set had the steps leaning backward so your heel was very much lower than the front of your foot going up. They were very difficult to walk up. They also kept falling off and we had to screw them all in. He said it was my fault because he used the old stringers as a template for the new ones and my old stringers were worn. ( Exactly why it was time to rebuild the deck!) When we tried to get him to correct the problems he always had a reason he could not come. Finally he sent some other construction company (his friend) to fix the steps for $550. His friend said Lil John agreed to pay for the materials. I do not know if this is true or not. There is no handrail now but at least you can walk up the stairs. Also, the horizontal 2x4s for the railing keep detaching. My 28 lb dog leaned against one and the whole section just swung out behind her. We had to reattach them all with metal braces. Our old deck lasted seventeen years because it was built properly. This one started falling apart the first month. The concrete Lil John laid in my mother's alley cracked within the week. She was wheelchair bound and could not watch him all the time. He stashed some of the old broken concrete into the crawlspace under her house. I had to pay to have it removed. He also destroyed her rubbermaid tall storage shed when he moved it.
