This was a terrible experience!! The contract mentioned above was with Michael E. Miele, PE, who stated he had the following License Numbers: #079676 for New York State (where we live and where the work was to be done) and #44042 for New Jersey. The following work was to have been completed in addition to the topographic survey previously mentioned: 1. Driveway Retaining Wall Design (Design a retaining wall system for stream bank along driveway. This shall include all calculations required for proper installation, drainage calculations, geo-reinforcement analysis, etc. Provide on plan following items: wall type, installation specifications, method of construction, construction details, top and bottom of wall elevations, required rock pinning and method, etc.) 2. Future Garage Retaining Wall Design (Based on completed topographic survey, design a retaining wall system for extended driveway access in area discussed in field. The wall system shall be designed so that in future, construction meets the requirements for a garage foundation and construction.) 3. Deck and Rear Road Wall and Access Design (Based on completed topographic survey, design retaining wall system surrounding rear deck area. Provide site grading and exact method of construction. Provide design of access to alternate road area in rear of property.) 4. Rear of House Access Design ( Design a grading plan to allow for rear house access as discussed in field. This shall include an existing tree analysis and possible methods for stopping future tree root growth). NONE of this work was done. A September 13, 2010, e-mail from Miele stated that he would be meeting with the surveyor that day. Miele then wrote, "I am finally happy to announce that I should have the complete design completed by the end of the week." Miele made 3 or 4 appointments via phone conversations with my husband, but he never showed up for any of them. He only called to tell us he could not come for one of those visits. We heard nothing from him after that so my husband, Kent, wrote him again on Nov. 8, 2010, stating that due to rapid erosion, we had to have the retaining wall along the driveway completed by another firm. Also, we had to have the stairs and walkway to the rear road parking area done because the stairs and walkway we were using belonged to a neighbor who was selling his home. My husband stated that since the construction season was over and the contract laid out in the spring was now obsolete and untimely, he would like our $3,000 deposit back, minus a reasonable amount to cover the survey work which was actually done. In that same Nov. 8, 2010, e-mail, my husband asked Miele to scan and send to us a copy of the topographic survey, as well as the plot boundary survey we gave to him. We, once again, failed to hear anything from him. So, on Jan. 6, 2011, my husband wrote another e-mail, stating, "You need to communicate with me on this matter. I have heard nothing from you since September. I would like to resolve this matter of making a $3000 down payment and having nothing to show for it over 7 months later." Miele replied on Jan. 10, 2011. Here is what he wrote: "I am sorry for the delay in getting back to you, you have been very patient and understanding and it should not have gotten this far. I will get u an electronic copy out immediately and if you can give me till the end of the week i will get the money and the other hard copies. Again, i am truly sorry that this ended this way, I had some personal issues that just took over my life as well as my professional career. I will be back in touch by the end of the week. Thanks." We never heard from him again. My husband's last e-mail to him was on March 23, 2011. Kent wrote, "What is the story Mike? It has been over two months since you said you would take care of this in a week." My husband then basically repeated our request for a refund and for copies of the topographic survey and property boundary survey. Of course, as expected, there was no reply. We are about to initiate legal proceedings to try to recoup what we lost by placing our trust in Mr. Miele. I have seen in Angie's List that another consumer dealt with Mr. Miele in 2010 and gave him all "F" grades as well.
Description of Work: A topographic survey of our property was completed by a land surveyor, which Michael E. Miele, PE, arranged to have done as part of the civil engineering design contract my husband, Kent Webb, signed and sent to him on June 10, 2010, along with our check for the $3,000 deposit Mr. Miele requested. It took Miele three months to arrange for the survey to be done--none of the survey work was performed by him. Please note that we never received a copy of this land survey from Mr. Miele, nor did we receive back from him our original property boundary survey, despite repeated phone conversations and e-mails asking for these. That was the only copy of the property boundary survey we had.

He was also suppose to submit the plans to the township and he did that 6 weeks late. The plans were never correct and he never corrected them. We could not move on with the project at this time. From June to October, I asked him for the status of the project and he just said it was fine. We would set up a meeting and he never showed up for the meetings. I finally check to see if his license was up to date and it was not. He committed fraud because he presented himself as a license engineer in the state of New Jersey and he is not. Please do not use this guy. I asked him for my money back. He disapeared with my money and I had to start over. I paid another engineer and all of the fees that I had already paid. Mike Miele is not an honest man.
Description of Work: He wrote up plans for a septic system. It was his job to get them correct and they were not correct.
