They were quickly responsive to a quote and had availability that week to fit our job in. However, maybe that was a signal. In the end I can’t express how disappointed I am in the sealcoating job Hick's recently completed on our driveway. There are missed spots and areas not fully coated as if the coat was going on so thin they ran out of material so it didn't coat within the pockets, rather just a topseal where the contact points are. But worse, the sloppy job extended to splashes on the Belgian block perimeter and trim work of the house. Needless to say, I won’t be using Hicks again, but providing this feedback so the application teams can be coached for improvement.

We have a 150 foot s-curved driveway that was in disrepair and needed to be widened due to delivery vehicles continually driving over our lawn. Hicks came as soon as called, gave a very competitive price, and did the work within two weeks of accepted bid. And wow! This is the neatest driveway we have ever seen. No damage to landscaping, no black asphalt on our grass, gaps at the garage are filled in, it’s thick and smooth and beautiful. Several neighbors who just had their driveways resealed by someone else commented on the great job!

Gave an estimate told me what they were going to do and set expectations. Arrived when they said they would, did what they said they would do, reviewer the project with me at completion to make sure that I was satisfied. They did a professional job in a timely manner

Terrible. First of all while they were doing our driveway they searched our street for other jobs which is ok, however, they started another driveway before finishing ours. As a result they ran out of product. now we have a patched driveway which is obvious. The workers walked on the, not yet ready, driveway. Now we have shoe marks embedded in the driveway along with mud marks also embedded in the driveway. Very very sloppy work.

They were on time as promised, work was done as promised. Top quality, worth a premium price.

We had had a red stone driveway and made the mistake years ago to change it to blacktop. It started falling apart so we decided to replace it with the original red stone. Pavers are a crap shoot. You never know what you're going to get. I took Angie's list reviews and hired Sam Hicks. I got 4 estimates and his was in the middle. So we went with Sam. Sam is a middle aged guy who looks like he could be in the movies. Tough looking guy with style. He advised me as to what we should do and how thick it should be. He definitely sounded like he'd done about 50 thousand driveways. On the appointed day his fleet of trucks arrived. Sam's son was on the job -Sam junior. Gentlemanly polite and firmly in control of the job. The equipment that he has is spotless and well maintained. No dirt and tar on these monster trucks of his. Perfect. He must have a several million dollar fleet. What a difference from the usual paver equipment. This is a strong team. So they took one day to dig out the old driveway and one day to lay more base stone followed by 3 inches of red stone plus a 20 by 20 foot basketball blacktop area. The result was truly perfect and firm. What luck to get him. I am truly relieved to see a job well done. Sam Hicks by the way is not the same as some of the other Hicks pavers in NJ. Be sure you are getting Sam. I can't comment on the others because I don't know. These guys show pride in their work and run a tight ship. They appear to have enough equipment to pave the NJ Turnpike so they can certainly handle your job. PS. I have no relationship to them. I just thought this review would help the poor consumer like me who knows not where to go.

Took a while to get the job scheduled, but once started it was done quickly and well. Hicks also came back in the spring to seal the driveway, and I will be having them back every other year to do that again.

Very happy with work performed. Showed up right on time, quickly completed job and thoroughly cleaned-up when done. Driveway looks great. Owner was very responsive, accommodated my expedited request for services to fit my job in around his other schedules. Job was to lay down 3" of asphalt top coat onto existing driveway with custom work to meet height of belgium block border and garage floor.

Work was scheduled to start in a few days, fixed cracks, resurfaced the driveway to a like new state. Crew was professional, neat, and proactive to protect house and garage doors near the work area. Honest, great service provider.

Job was re-scheduled to a later date due to inspection availability.  The 1st day Hicks removed the existing damaged asphalt and  prepared driveway closest to the curb in accordance with township code.  The prepared driveway passed Township inspection and then Hicks poured asphalt on driveway and rolled/smoothed asphalt.  Overall satisfied with the quality and timeliness of work performed.

The crack filing was not completed. I spoke with the owner who did agree to refund the money for the crack filing. I do respect them for being honest people and agreeing to refund the money for a job that was not done. There are some contractors who would lie, and then I would have to call the show "Catch a Contractor."

Hicks Paving resurfaced our driveway of 3000 SF.   They are very efficient and professional in their work.  Sam Hicks came out in the morning with a BOBCAT to pick up parts of the existing blacktop where it meets the garage apron, stairs, retaining wall and the city road.  The paving crew came out later in the day to lay down a base coat (to level the driveway) and top coat.   Our driveway is on a steep hill which makes getting trucks up to the top tricky, but they had no problems.  The crew worked well together, were courteous and I was impressed with the cleanliness of their trucks and equipment.  They take pride in their work and it shows in the quality of the job.  The driveway is now very smooth and is graded correctly to shed water.

If there is one area for improvement it is in their responsiveness to calls. During the quoting and scheduling process I had difficulty reaching anyone to get my questions answered. In fact, I had to call the day before the expected start of work to confirm they were coming the next morning.  That should not be necessary.

I would recommend them based on the quality of their work, price competitiveness and efficiency, and hope that they improve their customer service issues.

Lines of dirt were embedded in the pavement.  Wide grooves were left in the pavement from the rolling machine. 
The cement sidewalk is stained with tread marks from their equipment. 
I called multiple times for 2 weeks before they returned my calls.  Someone finally came out and said the appearance was fine.

I'm very pleased with how things went with Hicks Paving.  They came and paved the driveway about a week after the quote was given.  They arrived on time and were very professional.  They dug up 2 layers of existing pavement and then added rock/gravel.  They leveled both the rock/gravel and pavement layers to drain correctly down to the far end of the driveway.  Both Sam (the owner) and his son were present.  They were cordial and patient with all my questions.  They were friendly and I could tell they made sure the job was done right.  Sam was working with the roller well after all the other workers had finished. He was making sure the surface was flat and curved just right.  They tested water drainage with the hose and made sure all the edges were clean and angled correctly.  They also took care not to damage or disrupt the rock and wood edging around several portions of the driveway.  No garbage or extra materials were left behind.  They arrived around 8:00 AM and departed in the mid-afternoon.  It's now been about 3 weeks and I am very impressed with the work that has been done.  I would recommend Hicks for any paving job and will have them back in the spring to do the sealing.  
The only area of improvement for Hicks Paving would be the coordination of the actual date of service... I had to call the main office a couple times to get a final confirmation.  This was not a major inconvenience and did not diminish the high quality work that was provided.  Additionally, Hicks Paving was slightly more expensive than some  of the other bids I received (I collected 4).  That being said, I believe you get what you pay for and I am very satisfied with the end product.  I would prefer to spend a couple hundred dollars more on such a large project and feel confident that it was done right.
