He quoted us a price and then added on things with additional charges later. He did not complete the work. One thing he never installed was the landing pad which is required by law. He told us he would come back and install it but never did. We tried calling him a number of times but he never called us back. The quality of the work was also terrible - the lumber is already splitting.
Description of Work: He built a deck for us.

We found out later that his friend was going to charge us 10% of what we received from the insurance company. John then assumed he was going to get the job, and that he would make money off the job by spending less money than the insurance gave us. He was very pushy. We hired him for a job, but he acted as if he was a general contractor. We had contacts we wanted to use to for different things, and he started going to those providers and threatening them, telling them not to tell us the total cost for the products so that he could use lower-quality products without us knowing and pocket the money. He went to the carpet store when we didn?t ask him to and ultimately got kicked out of the store for requesting them to add more money to the invoice so he could get paid more. Also, at the store, he was swearing and very rude. He was just trying to push his way into everything. When we went to the carpet store they told me they knew John?s reputation and that he was a bad character and we should fire him. He also brought 3 fans in when we didn?t need that many, and tried to charge the insurance company $700 per day for them. We decided we wanted to fire John. He came over, and we could tell he was angry before he even knew we were firing him. He said he wasn?t making enough money on this job and we needed to pay him $2000. He was very rude to me and was in my face a lot, so we paid him the $2000 to get him to go away. Do not use this company.
Description of Work: John did some work on our deck which we originally thought turned out well, so we hired them again for basement refinishing after it flooded. He told us he could do the whole job including replacing the flooring. He also introduced us to a friend who was an agent to help us work with our insurance company.
