I have used this firm located in HACKENSACK previously to service my Sub-Zero 650 three times within the last 27(!) years. They are the AUTHORIZED repair company recommended by Sub-Zero/Wolf/Cove in the NJ/NY area. Their technicians are profoundly knowledgeable and competent. The firm is responsive towards arranging appointments. They are honest, ethical and "go the extra mile" in service. (Thank you, most recently, Benny and Jesse!) The firm is located in Hackensack, NJ and the phone number is 201-489-9495. All primary contact number(s) start (only) with area code 201. (BEWARE: There are other firms on the internet pretending to be this company and using similar-sounding names. You do not reach this valued firm via a 1-800 number, nor a 323 area code!)

AVOID L&J Appliance! They sent a guy who came to our apartment to diagnose some loud thuds we hear throughout the night/day. He stayed for 5 minutes and had no clue what to do. We requested that he stay for another half hour to diagnose and he refused and gave us a $230 bill for his time of 5 minutes. Thank you so much sir.

L&J Appliance visited us 8 times over a 3-month period.  The initial problem was a spike in the temperature of the freezer in our 23-year-old Sub Zero refrigerator.  L&J diagnosed the problem as a burned out compressor, which they replaced at a cost of $1800.
However, we continued to have problems: the freezer temperature was still erratic and the ice maker was not working.  At one point the water valve for the ice maker malfunctioned and water poured out and flooded the freezer, the kitchen floor, and part of the dining room floor.  L&J came the next day and installed a new water valve and performed other work, all at no additional charge.  On the next visit, they installed a new ice maker at a cost of $300.
However, the new ice maker still did not produce any ice.  It took several more visits, installation of another new ice maker, installation of another new water valve, and other work before the problem was completely resolved.  L&J did not charge for any of these visits.  The last visit was from a more knowledgeable technician who was able to diagnose the outstanding problems and fix them - again at no additional charge.
Several times over this 3-month period, the repairman told me that L&J would call me to schedule the next appointment.  This never happened, and I always ended up calling them instead.  One time I deliberately waited to see if they would eventually call.  After waiting 3 weeks, I gave up and called them.  They said they hadn't called me because they were waiting for a part to come in and it was back-ordered.

We just moved into a house with a 1994 SubZero in it that was having issues staying cool. The service scheduling was painless, but waiting for a time window until the day of was a bit unnerving, as we had other things to do that day as well. The repair technician was friendly, forthright and knowledgeable. As I was at work, they dealt with my husband, who was very picky. After the service call, there was a billing issue that they reached out on (their error) and it was resolved quickly. I would gladly do business with them again.

After GA Service told me that they couldn't come for a week, L and J offered to come the next day. Not only did they come almost exactly at the time I requested but the technician did an excellent job and didn't charge me for one of the parts because of the high overall cost of the repair. Also the people on the phone at L and J were courteous and knowledgeable, more so than their counterparts at GA Service.
I initially called GA Service because they got a higher Angie's List rating than L and J, but now I will only deal with L and J if I ever need service on the fridge again. I was very satisfied with their service!

Smooth experience. Was prepared for a potentially bigger bill (for instance, a condenser problem) but the trouble was accurately diagnosed and they brought the part with them. Very punctual and professional.

Land J were polite, prompt, and knowledgeable. They stood by their service with guarantees. The price seemed high to us, but we don't know if that is the market rate. Our refrigerator had been running loud and showing error codes. Sub-Zero customer service referred us to Land J Appliance as one of the two local Sub Zero-certified repair companies. We called Land J on a Tuesday and got an appointment for Thursday. They said they could provide a specific time window at 8:30am on the morning of service. On that Thursday morning, we called for a time window. The repairman arrived during the 1st hour of the time window. He was friendly and efficient. When he took parts out, he placed them down carefully so that our floor would not be damaged. He found a problem right away (compressor fan), and he had the right replacement part with him in his vehicle. When we asked "how do you know that the fan is the problem?" (we were wary of buying a new part for no reason) he demonstrated how it was easy to stop the old fan by inserting one finger into the spinning blades, and explained that a properly-working fan should not be that easy to stop. He replaced the part very quickly and demonstrated how it was now spinning more smoothly and vigorously. We asked him also to remove the ice maker that we don't use, and he did this quickly, carefully tying up the loose cables so that they would not interfere with the freezer drawer opening and closing. The service call itself was $150, plus the cost of the new fan, plus tax. The repairman thanked us and left quickly. Less than a month later, 3 more error codes were flashing. We called Land J again. They said their service is guaranteed for 30 days, so they could return to check it at no additional charge. We called on a Monday and they gave us an appointment for Friday. We wished they could have come sooner, but since the refrigerator temperature was still <40 degrees, they said the delay was probably ok. On 8/5/11 same repairman from 7/7/11 came back. He explained what the error codes meant (one was "compressor fan overworking," and another was "freezer defrost error"), and said that sometimes this can happen when the refrigerator is in a very hot room without AC for several days. He asked us if we had left town and left the AC off over a hot weekend. He reassured us that nothing in the refrigerator's installation was faulty that could cause this error. He showed us how to shut off the error codes the next time they show up for no reason. He extended Land J's 30 day guarantee to 60 days in case we had more problems. Again, he was polite and knowledgeable, but we wish we knew why we still see error codes. As of 8/17/11 we will have to call them a third time about this, because we are seeing an error code and also glasses of water are freezing over in the refrigerator, even though it says the temperature is 37.

Poor rating is primarily due to our experience with the initial man sent to do the job. He arrived almost 2 hours later than the "window" provided, never called or apologized, spent about 10 minutes before announcing that the job would be a flat rate and very expensive ($700), and that maybe I should call his supervisor for a better deal before adding that his supervisor was not available this time of day. I consulted with my husband, then asked the repairman to go ahead with the job in light of the fact that the freezer had completely failed and we needed fast action. Whereupon he announced -- with a big smile -- that he was leaving because I was "mad" at him. I literally followed this person to the freight elevator, begging him to complete the job because this was 4:30 pm Friday leading to a long weekend and we needed to get the freezer working. (Maybe he had plans for the weekend and that's why he wanted to cut out!) I later spoke to his supervisor who was very nice and they sent a different fellow the following Tuesday who quickly completed the job without incident. Second reservation is the price of $700, which I was told was "industry-set" for the labor, which was 45 minutes max. Parts were covered by warranty but they were around $300.

On his first visit, the repairman thought the problem was a plastic panel that conceals the light and fan at the top of the unit had fallen down and was causing the compressor to work overtime, along with a door shelf that actually impinged on the interior of the refrigerator when the door was closed, causing the door not to seal properly. He repositioned the panel and we removed the door shelf. The next morning, the refrigerator compartment was at 48 degrees. So we called and asked them to return (they do not charge a service call charge for return visits within 30 days), which they did on the day we requested and during the time slot they promised. On that visit, he removed the back panel of the unit to expose the evaporator which was iced over. We thought the price for replacement was fair, especially when they deducted the price of the service call from the total. The repairman was courteous and professional, and I would not hesitate to call them if we need to have the unit serviced in the future.

Refrigerator broke on Friday. No contact info for emergency calls. Left message. Got callback first thing Monday morning. They are the official sub-zero repair company in NYC. Confirmed 9-12 window of arrival. Came pretty quickly towards the beginning of the window. Efficient and helpful and finished within 1/2 hour. Price seems somewhat fair / average for NYC if not a little better but no great deal (paid slightly less recently to fix a GE compactor - which was more work, required more time and visits).

THEY DIDN'T DO MUCH, BUT I THOUGHT THIS COMPANY DID A PRETTY GOOD JOB. I THINK THE COST WAS REALLY GOOD FOR THE WORK THAT THEY DID FOR ME. THIS COMPANY WAS VERY RESPONSIVE.
