Delaware Valley Irrigation

Matt and a helper came out and looked over our system (which we have never used). First they repaired the backflow preventer and then left to do another job while the glue dried. They came back in the afternoon and turned on the system and taught us how to use and set up our Rainbird. He was thorough and very helpful. After running the zones, it was obvious a sprinkler head needed to be replaced which they promptly fixed. In total, they were at our house for 3 hours max. When I asked cost, Matt said it would be in the mail. When we got the bill I was convinced there was an error. It cost $295 to turn on our system and then charged for parts and labor on top of that for the repairs. I had called Matt originally because he had winterized this system for a previous owner at the tune of $70 so a flat charge of $295 to turn it on seemed unfair and outrageous, especially since he didn’t disclose that before. Matt is nice and knows what he is doing but I felt taken advantage of by his pricing policy which you won’t discover until after the work is completed. I did call Matt prior to paying and he confirmed it wasn’t an error and that he didn’t charge us to come back (from the other job he went to). That was unbelievable to me because he left our house to work on a bigger job while the glue dried. I would never expect anyone to charge for time when they aren’t at the house doing work anyway. Long story short, we paid almost $600 and will never hire this company again.

We were never given a contract or an updated estimate although we requested one many times.  The "technician/owner" showed up on  an intermittent basis, and after 3 days left our property without the project being done, and with his equipment and trailer left on our front lawn. 
We tried to find out when he would be returning, but was told "I do not know".  It took six weeks to complete the project.  The final invoice says it includes a "warranty" but no information is available as to what this means. 
The actual work and the system are really great.  It works just as advertised, and the workmanship is top notch.  However, the supporting documentation was never provided, and we were never able to get a final cost estimate until the bill arrived for nearly $2000 over the estimate - an increase of 25%.  Calls to the office were met with vague answers, and a request for an itemized bill to justify the additional costs remain unanswered.
I will be contacting another provider to service this system going forward.
