We were replacing a 30 year old furnace and air conditioning unit that was installed by the builder in a large condo/townhouse complex. I called 3 installers from Angie’s List with “A” ratings to provide estimates. All 3 were prompt for their appointments and were professional. We shared with all 3 that our concern was that while the A/C cooled the condo, it still felt uncomfortable. Our suspicion was that the unit was oversized. The same sized units were installed for every condo, whether they were on the top floor or ground floor. Two of the providers insisted that we should replace the existing unit at the same specifications. One even stated that since there was no price difference between the 2 ton vs. 1.5 ton, we should get the 2 ton. However, Pete from Berkeley Heating and Air Conditioning listened to our concerns and was the only provider to take the time to measure the living space. He then inspected the condo, verifying which walls were exposed to the elements versus other condos or underground. He talked about the manufacturer they recommended (Trane) and the warranties for both the equipment and labor. When I inquired about an extended labor warranty he answered honestly that they did not recommend it due to the price. Pete took his measurements back to the office so he could estimate which sized unit would work for us and sent us a professionally drafted estimate. In fact, the smaller unit would work for our condo with capacity to spare. We had no problems scheduling the installation. The workmen who came were again prompt and courteous. They removed all the old equipment and left the utility room neat. Upon further inspection, we discovered a few matters needing attention. When I called to ask for a service call, Berkeley was very responsive and scheduled a visit at my convenience. Chris came and remedied the issues and even discovered a drainage matter we had not. We are very pleased with our experiences with Berkeley and would definitely use them again.

The quoted price was the price that I paid when they did the job. It was prompt. It would be nice if the guy who gave the quote were to come at the start of the work. They are reliable. The fact that these people came out and they did a quote for free, to me it is a big positive.

They were reliable. I guess what did trouble me, was that one guy came out to give me the quote and he knew exactly what needed to be done and what the work was and everything. But then when I accepted the quote, I had to explain everything all over again to the crew that came, because they were entirely different from the person who gave me the quote. And so to that extent I was not as happy as what I would consider professionalism. It did bother me that the people who came out were not well prepared by the person who gave me the quote.

I called Berkeley heating to check out my upstairs floor AC, which stopped working (my vents weren't pushing cold air). They came on time (and billed me the $120 inspection fee) and inspected the unit while I went back inside my house. The technician (Paul, shaved head guy) returned 30 min later and told me the unit was fried, that I needed a new unit, and would call for the owner to inspect my house and give a quote. I called Rich's Aire for a quote for replacement (Berkley made me wait 2 days for the re-inspection) and Rich insisted they do a FREE diagnosis. They found only a burnt/dead coolant wire was the culprit and fixed it on the spot (for a mere $250). I was shocked - There was NOTHING WRONG with my AC that required a full replacement!?!? Berkeley wanted to charge me $3-4k for a new unit, unbelievable!! I will never call Berkeley again. They were dishonest and tried to rip me off. If you hire them for anything, make sure you get a 2nd quote to compare

Berkeley Heating and AC was great! I called Berkeley Heat A/C at 1:35pm and was told technician would arrive between 2-5pm - the same day! Technician arrived at about 2pm! House cooling down by 3:30pm.

It went as I expected. He arrived in the scheduled window and serviced both furnaces. Will continue to use them for maintenance. Have not used them for repairs, so cannot comment.

Berkeley Heating And Air Conditioning were excellent. They gave us an estimate that was a couple of thousand dollars less than another company gave us and came out and fixed the unit within 20 minutes. They were very responsive and came out the day I called them. It was hot and my 80-year-old parents were staying with me, so they came out quick. I would use them without question in the future.

Initially thought I was going to replace just the heating system. Peter explained that the two systems are interconnected and it was much more cost effective to do the heating and cooling systems at the same time. He also explained what type of heating/cooling components should be installed to replace the old ones. Even though it was a bigger, hence more expensive project than I had hoped, their price was very competitive compared to other quotes I received.
Since it was a bigger project than originally thought, it took 2 days. But the technicians showed up at the scheduled times, did an excellent job, and left the work areas clean. I was impressed with their knowledge and professionalism. If I knew in advance that I was replacing both heating and air conditioning, they could have done the job in one day.
In addition, they took care of everything with the township. They obtained the requisite permit before beginning the job and scheduled the inspection after the job was done. The inspection went smoothly and the new system runs great.
I was very pleased with the job Berkeley Heating and Air Conditioning did and I will have them do the routine maintenance on the system in the future.

They came in lower priced and used better equipment than any other contractor who was giving us an estimate. The house had never had central air before and they did a great job installing it with minimal effect on the finished areas of the basement. The new furnace they installed is great and blows the heat much more evenly and comfortable than our old unit. They also helped fill out the rebate forms. My only problems were that the top of the new flue liner for the hot water heater was poorly installed and the men who also came to install the HW liner didn't do a great job in the basement. (I was told by a chimney sweep who was working on the fireplace flue that this was not typical of Berkeley's work) Before even having it inspected I complained that it was shoddy work and when the inspector showed up, he failed it. They did send someone out to fix it and it finally passed inspection not to long after that. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to have heat/ ac work done. But as in any installation ask questions if something doesn't look right. and don't pay the final portion of the bill until it passes inspection

I was very lucky that I had somebody at home that day because Berkeley Heating and A/C were able to respond that afternoon. Usually I have a problem since I cannot be at home during the day. That would certainly impact my rating. Also, my friend who was at my home was able to very accurately describe the problem and what he thought was wrong; the repairman immediately knew what was wrong.

We have been using them for at least 10 years and have had no complaints. We are happy with them. They are dependable. They call me when it is time for the maintenance to be done. I don’t interact with them much besides this, but they do make my life easy. We would continue to use them in the future.
