We called them out because our air handler fan was randomly fluctuating between two speeds, so on their first visit it was decided the problem was due to a malfunctioning circuit board, which was a part that had to be ordered. Both men were very nice. That visit cost $85.00. A week later they came in and replaced the circuit board (approx. $190.00 for the part, and $80 for the 30 minutes of labor it required to install it). I was told that should fix the problem, I paid them and they left (they did offer a 1 year guarantee). Within 20 minutes of their exit, the fluctuating began again, so they came back the following day and decided now the problem was our thermostat, and replaced it. We had recently purchased a Nest thermostat, so instead of solving the issue of the thermostat, they replaced our nice efficient high-tech $200 thermostat with a $50 thermostat, saying they hoped we kept the receipt. Before they arrived, my husband had done some research and found we did not need a new circuit board OR a new thermostat, we needed more power going to the thermostat we had. Even after suggesting this, Dale Mechanical just left us with a cheap thermostat (which, to their credit, we were not charged for) saying that would solve the problem. It's certainly one way to solve the problem, much like cutting off a broken leg would solve the problem of having a broken leg.
After they left, my husband immediately put the Nest thermostat back on and connected it to a common wire to give it the power it needed and the problem was solved, and could have been solved for free (or at least within the first $85 visit, had they known what to look for).
I am extremely unsatisfied because these men came into my home twice and did not really know what the problem was. Instead of telling us that or doing the necessary research, they put band aids on the problem, replacing expensive parts and charging us for labor that did not even solve the problem. When I asked about the unnecessary circuit board I was told that the thermostat damaged the old circuit board. It was clear to me in the beginning that they were not really sure what the problem was, especially because before they even came into my house, I suggested that maybe the issue was with the thermostat, and that suggestion was instantly brushed off.
I feel extremely ripped off and taken advantage of. I will not use this company again, and I am disappointed that we went out of our way to use a small family-owned local business. $350.00 later, we have learned a couple of valuable lessons.

UPDATE 10/28/2014: That statement is not false, as a year and a half later, after a summer of air conditioning the house, my husband's fix stands strong, and the problem has not resurfaced. That 'hi tech piece of junk' has done more to keep our house comfortable and energy bills low than any other thermostat I've ever had. I would highly recommend the Nest to anyone. Dale Mechanical, not so much...
Response from Dale Mechanical
"Your system has a 24 volt power supply going to thermostat. There is no way possible to increase power going to thermostat so that statement is false. As far as not being satisfied we would have been more then happy to refund your money if you had just told us instead of venting your frustrastions on a review. As far as your nest thermostat goes just because you paid a lot of money for hi tech piece of junk that sells at a home improvement store.Let me ask you what other hvac parts does nest manufacture NONE!"

I have a home warranty and Dale is a provider for the company, therefore I didn't have a service charge, Dale was awesome, on time, he was professional, cleaned up the previous gentlemens mess. He fixed everything including problems that I was unaware of.

They came in after a vendor and said we needed a new compressor and then disapeared. They picked up a new compressor by buying it outright since they didn't yet have the old one for warranty repair, just to cut time off the time to fix. They then troubleshot for the fact that the new compressor wouldn't always restart due to the incompatible coil in the attic. They replaced expediently with no additional cost to us due to Home Shield (and no additional profit on their end).
