NJ Elite Movers

I picked this company from an online referral service (not Angie's List). The sales pitch was "3 men and a truck for $75/hour". This sounded reasonable. I had packed most of the small items into plastic Rubbermaid bins with covers, and made sure that furniture and rugs were taped to prevent them from flying open in transit. I had expected the move to take no more than 5 hours (at a total cost of less than $400). But when the movers arrived, the foreman said that everything needed to be taped, boxed, or wrapped in plastic, or they wouldn't take it. And the cost of the packing materials was sky high! I took a picture of the price list. They used a case of packing tape at $3.50 for each skinny little roll, at a total cost of over $80. Seeing how the costs of the move were getting totally out of control, I asked the foreman for an estimate of the total cost, and negotiated a fixed fee of $900. I was naive to let this happen. But I think a more ethical company would have warned me of the real cost. In that regard, I felt that NJ Elite Movers intentionally blindsided me about the cost of the move. That's just plain dirty business, in my opinion. For me, the moral of the story is, go with a company that will give you an up-front quote for the move. And never fall for the "3 men and a truck" scam. You'll pay big time for that mistake!
