Gargas Roofing installed our roof in November of 2015. They applied for the construction permit from my town, they installed the roof, we paid them the same day. Gargas was not easy to reach by phone or email, typically taking 2 or 3 days for a call back. The price and job were both good. Communications and professionalism were not good at all. June of 2017, 1-1/2 years later, my town called and said to pay the $215 permit fee or be hit with a $2000 fine. Gargas never picked up the permit nor paid for it. No one has been able reach anyone at Gargas Roofing for months. A complaint report with BBB-NJ has been filed against Gargas Roofing.

Overall experience with them was very good. I was very happy with them. The quality of work was good. They were on time on the date they promised. The price was reasonable compared to other contractors. The material and everything I had selected was top quality, so there was no problem them, they just ordered what I asked for. I had a follow-up because last week I had a little problem with leaking from the roof and they actually showed up today when I called them. There was a little crack on the side of chimney were the isolation goes in and I think it's the result of the sun, so they came in and fixed it and I'm happy with the result.

Great job. Very professional in all our dealings with them. Very punctional. Great job protecting plants, yard, etc., and debris removal. Very professional installation of GAF shingles, but most important, the underlay, flashing, caulking, nailing down of shingles, etc. Also replaced all gutters with 6" gutters with leaf guards. Mark was very helpful and professional. We shopped around on Angie's List and came up with 3 excellent roofers, but choose Mark as his prices and warranty were best.Would definitely recommend Mark and his company to anyone who wants a quality roof installation.

I found him on Angie's List.  He's a nice young fellow, he did mine and my neighbors.  We haven't had any trouble in 5 years, the roof is holding up.  He's an A-Lister.  We both had our entire roofs done.  I have a small ranch home.  One of the gutters in the front of the house started to fall down so I called him and he came and replaced that whole part that was falling down and didn't charge me.  I thought that was great.  They were such nice people, too.  He gave me a nice price and the quality is very good.  So far everything is holding up.

Everything seems to have gone well, but it hasn't rained yet so we're not 100% sure. He showed up when he said he would & gave us an estimate right then & there. He was prompt with the repair.

good. They also replaced some wood on my 95 year old house while doing the shingles. I was not happy that when they replace the wood it was unpainted and they did not tell me about it. They cleaned up well after completing the job and did the job quickly. After hurricane Irene my gutter was damaged and I called them. However they subcontracted out this job. The roofing job came with a guarantee.

It worked very well. It was an interesting and very pleasant experience. The guy named Anderson owned the truck, did not have to go over this. Therefore, I was considering to brizzle him instead of bothering the troops. It was always positive not to bother the troop if I tried to get something done. The service was uniformly excellent, nothing stood out. Quality of work was excellent. They were immediate in responding. They were workman like, they were strict, they were self disciplined and they went right to work.

I found Gargas on Angie's List and chose them due to their rating, competitive price, and the feeling I got speaking with Mark, the president of the company. It was a pleasure dealing with Mark who is nice, understanding and very professional. He was usually available within a day or so of calling the office. When the crew arrived, they worked quickly and effieciently. The job supervisor, however, didn't want to listen to my concerns and resisted in allievating the issue. While stripping the old shingles down, they inadvertently pulled of on of the cedar shakes on the dormer leaving a hole where water could enter the house. I requested that he repair it and he refused saying that the "caulking" pulled of the shake when the shingles came off and there was nothing he could do. After discussing the issue with him for 5 minutes, I realized that he wasn't going to budge. At the end of the day when they had almost finished, Mark arrived to inspect the job. I showed him the issue and he agreed with me and the supervisor "fixed" the hole with a piece of aluminum he cut to fit the space, then secured it with nails and caulked around it. I also noticed that on the ridge of the roof, they had left the end shingle hanging over further than all of the other edge shingles and asked then to trim it to be the same length, the supervisor ignored my requested at first but then went up and trimmed it himself. Also while stripping the shingles, they threw the old shingles down on the ground which ended up flattening some flowers we had in a flower box. The supervisor said I had to speak with Mark. Mark told me to take $50 off of the price to replace the flowers, fair enough. After they cleaned up the nails, I found literally hundreds more and with two little kids running around, that can't happen. I just cleaned those up on my own. Upon completion, I paid them in full minus the $50 for the flowers. A couple days later, something about the roof bothered me and I couldn't pinpoint what it was. Then it dawned on me, the overhang was too long (the amount the shingle hangs over the edge so water doesn't get under the roof. Why is this bad? It voids the shingle manufacture's wind warranty since too much over hang lets wind catch it and can rip it up more easily. Mark insisted this is the way they have been installing the shingles for years and they were an approved installer for ELK-GAF shingles, and that it was OK because I have a warranty with Gargas (for labor, not cost of shingles). Well, to make a long story shorter, I called GAF and explained my issue. They indicated that it this wasn't fixed, the warranty for wind would be voided. I had Mark over to inspect the job, and we both called GAF and he was informed that a 1 1/2" over hang is too much that it shold be 1/4" to 3/8". Mark agreed to trim the excess and did. The trim job leaves something to be desired but at lease I have a warranty for the shingles too. One final thing, I had asked the office for a receipt for the job and all they sent was one for the house not the garage. I called them twice after that and they said they would send one out both times, I'm still waiting 4 months later. Mark was a great representative for his company, attentive, understanding, supportive, and eager to help where he could, overall. The supervisor, I do know his name but don't want to name him here, left me with the impression that he hated his job and didn't really want to A. hear anything from customers and B. have to do any "extra" work, even if it was their fault. Gargas rectified most of the issues and for that I am grateful but they should have never been issues in the first place. I would use them again, BUT ONLY if a different supervisor performed the job!

Gargas provided the lowest estimate. They were flexible with the material list, and used the particular ridge vent that I requested at no additional cost. Prior to the installation, I called twice to inquire about the additional cost of copper flashing. For some reason, they never responded and I had to call while the workers were at my house. By this time it was too late. They arrived on time and efficiently finished the roof job in one day, as was planned. When I returned home from work I discovered that they screwed 4 X 16 inch vents to the soffits as was discussed, but only cut three 1.5 inch holes per vent with a hole saw. This is much less intake than is required by the manufacturer specs on the ridge vent and much less than is recommended by the roofing community. I did a lot of research on this and was glad I did. You are supposed to have 60% of your attic ventilation coming in the sofffit and 40% going out the ridge to create a vacuum effect. I also noticed that one of the ridge vent panels was installed off center. I asked Mark to come and look at my issues and he promptly did so. To his credit, they returned the next day to address all of my concerns. I got the feeling that Mark did not agree with my assessment that more intake ventilation was needed. This concerns me a little, and I would do my homework before asking Gargas to balance the ventilation in my attic space. Regardless, Mark did everything needed to satisfy our concerns - he was very professional (even if the crew was a little sloppy) and made sure we were happy at the end of the day.
