Job started in May 2016. Adam Kravitz and Frank Sokalski disappeared before finishing the job. Each told me to contact the other. Here's the details from beginning. Prior to the start date I had selected everything I wanted in fixtures, tile, exhaust fan, vanity/sink, decorative granite for the shelf etc... Adam's partner, Frank Sokalski, measured for the amount of tile and for the length of the granite shelf. He was to place the order for each since he had the measurements. They secured permits with the town of Somerville NJ. Work proceeded. They gutted the bathroom. They asked me where I wanted grab bars in the shower, towel bars, and toilet paper holder and then installed the wood blocking. I asked them how would they know where the blocking was once the dry wall and tile were up. They replied they were taking measurements of the locations. They had a plumber do rough ins for the plumbing and licensed electrician run the electrical for the ceiling exhaust fan/light fixture and light fixture over the vanity. The inspector came for interim inspections and we passed electrical, plumbing, and building. When it came time to do the tiling, they claimed that they ordered it but it hadn't arrived. The tile store claimed that Frank hadn't ordered it. So there was a delay in getting the tile. Adam/Frank asked me to intervene and see if we could speed up the process of getting the tile. I did and confirmed with Frank that the tile had arrived at the tile store on Friday afternoon May 20, 2016 and tiling could begin Monday May 23rd. Neither Frank nor Adam showed up on Monday. The tile specialist they contracted with showed up and wanted to know where they were and where the tile was. We each texted/called Frank and Adam. After approximately one hour, Adam finally texted back that they weren't working at my house that day and Frank was supposed to tell us. They did not tell us in advance that they wouldn't be there Monday. I had cleared my schedule to be there that day and so did the tile specialist yet no work could be done. Tiling began the next day and took a few days. The tile specialist did a good job. . Frank Sokalski then showed up to get the next to last scheduled payment. I gave him that payment. I had already paid all the other scheduled installments as well as the cost of the tile, fixtures etc... It was my understanding that they would bring the toilet, which I had already paid them for, when they came to finish the job after tiling was completed. Frank cane and installed the vanity/sink although he didn't hook up the pipes underneath the sink so the sink was not usable at that point. He did not bring the toilet nor install it. He installed a GFI outlet and the exhaust fan/light fixture -- (both of which the electrician had to later fix. Frank had used the wrong GFI and pinched the wires in the ceiling fan fixture.) After that, Adam Kravitz and Frank Sokalski each claimed they didn't have time to finish the job. Adam told me to call Frank and Frank told me to call Adam. In other words, they pointed fingers at each other and basically disappeared. When they made it clear they weren't coming back, I called Adam. He didn't answer. I left him voice message asking him to call the dumpster company to remove the dumpster they contracted for from my driveway. To me this was a failed project and told him so. He had the dumpster removed. I didn't have the toilet that I paid for ($214). The plumbing was not complete. The electrical was not complete. I couldn't use the bathroom. So I contracted directly with the plumber. I paid him to finish all plumbing related issues and had to purchase another toilet (additional $214) for him to install. I contracted with the tile specialist to install the towel bars, etc... We couldn't easily install the bath/shower grab bar nor the toilet paper holder since Adam/Frank had the wood block location measurements for behind the tile and they had disappeared. So I have the bath/shower area with no grab bar. That wasn't the plan. Also I had to use a free standing toilet paper holder instead of the one I had purchased for the wall. The tile specialist also had to move the cut in the wall board for the electrical above the vanity because it wasn't centered. The light fixture would have looked very strange hanging to the left of the vanity. The tile specialist had to patch and repaint the wall board where Adam/Frank had put it off center. I had the electrician finish the electrical work and he had to redo the GFI that Frank had installed as well as un-pinch the wires in the ceiling exhaust fan. He installed the timer switch for the fan which I had initially requested that Adam/Frank did not install. The experience with Adam Kravitz/Frank Sokalski was stressful, costly, and very disappointing. Contractors who walk away from a job and don't finish because they have other work to do are unprofessional. I would not use Adam Kravitz/Frank Sokalski again. I shouldn't have to contract directly with the subcontractors and pay them directly because the general contractor (Adam/Frank) decided they had more important things to do than finish the contract they had with me. Of course, I am grateful to the subcontractors whom I contracted directly to finish the job. The bathroom passed final inspection because of them.
Description of Work: This was a remodel of small full bathroom with the following specifications. Adam Kravitz Builders & Frank Sokalski did not complete the job. They claimed they didn't have time. Adam told me to call Frank to have him finish and Frank told me to call Adam. I had paid on time per the schedule and they pointed fingers at each other and left without finishing the job. Here are the specifications of what they were supposed to do per the written agreement: Gut the bathroom down to the studs. Remove all existing tile and bathroom fixtures. Move and rough in the sink plumbing to an adjacent wall for a better layout. Install electrical for ceiling fan/light fixture and for light fixture over the mirror. Install wood blocks for more secure installation of grab bars, towel bars, towel ring, robe hook, and toilet paper holder. Install all new bathroom drywall. Install tile in tub/shower combo area and on lower half of adjoining wall. Install new bathtub, toilet, vanity/sink. Do plumbing finishes. Install decorative granite shelf along ledge of the foundation wall. Install exhaust fan and light fixtures. Install towel bars, grab bars, towel ring, robe hook, mirror over vanity, toilet paper holder. Install replacement window in this bathroom and in the laundry room. Install curtain rod on window molding. Paint ceiling and the walls that weren't tiled.
