Apr 2013
I called SNK Fence 5 months after they installed a vinyl fence at my new home (installed Nov 2012-I called in April). Five posts had
sunk relatively low and I had grown concerned. John, the owner was both arrogant and short with me, claiming it was due to wind damage from Hurricane Sandy. When I informed him that Sandy was in October and the fence was installed in November, he didn't have an immediate answer--only to tell me that we had 8 major storms along the jersey shore since then. I questioned that as I've been living here and don't recall nearly that many. The call ended when he told me they wouldn't come out, they weren't responsible for wind damage or other acts of God.
I recieved a follow-up call minutes later from a female who identified herself as one of the owners of SNK. She too, refused to acknowledge my concerns stating it was wind damage and my warranty was already null and void since the builder (whom I bought the new construction from) was the actual client and I'd need to contact him directly so he could file a complaint.
Weeks later, while doing yard work, my father-in-law discovered that there was not nearly enough cement poured into the post's holes during installation. The workers clearly dug the hole, put the posts down and then put a minimal amount of cement along the top of the ground. There was literally a 5"-6" gap with no cement or soil-just a hollow vertical gap just underneath the ground-clearly the reason for the sinking posts. Also, the cement was breaking apart like powder with the slightest tap of a shovel.
I called SNK immediately to report my findings as this was no longer wind/storm related. The female-Owner I spoke to (same as my initial conversation) defended her crew by saying (and I'll quote it verbatim)- "sir, sometimes our work isn't the best but we stand by it!" When I questioned her and her crew's work ethic with that kind of answer--she quickly ended the conversation by hanging up. (I think she realized how rediculous her response was.)
Twenty mins later I received a knock at my door from Lacey Police. This lady decided the best course of action to 'get back at me for complaining about her poor work' was to call the police and lie to them. She filed a false police report stating that I threatened her by saying I was going to "come over there and shove a fence post up her a**".
Not at any time did I ever threaten this woman! She blatently lied to the police in order to "get back at me" I think the officer realized that as well. (apparently this is not the first time she's used this pathetic tactic-so I m told) The officer advised me that he was going to note the issues with the fence (as this is a civil matter-not a police matter) - which he absolutely did. He also side-noted to me that I was clearly being level-headed and professional in my demeanor.
I contacted the builder who also reached out to SNK. She (the Owner), as expected, verbally attacked him over the warranty, the fact
that it was voided when he sold the new house to me, that it was wind damage and they weren't responsible, etc. She continued by belittling and berating me, calling me name after name (as I was later told) and then hanging up on him. There has since been no resolution to this matter.
My advice to anyone searching for a reputable fence company in the Lacey, Berkeley areas, do not use SNK Fence in Forked River, NJ. You will be sorely dissapointed as I have been. Look elsewhere!
Good luck!
