Our family room has always been colder than the rest of the house. That was the reason we requested the energy audit to see what the problem was. I had always believed that our windows were the problem. However, according to the energy audit our windows were fine. They indicated that we needed additional insulation in our garage (which is located under the family room). I wasn't able to evaluate the situation until this winter. The room is as cold as it was previously. The insulation provided in the garage has not helped. In fact, when we noted our concern to the company after the work was complete, they dropped off a thermal leak detector gun so that we could check if there were window leaks. Not sure why they did not do that when they did the energy audit. We used the gun and there is a substantial cold air leak coming from the windows. And we still have the gun. The salesman was supposed to drop off the warranty for the new hot water heater they installed and pick up the gun then. He has yet to return. We knew we needed a new hot water heater but when they told us who would be installing it, my husband was concerned since he knew the plumber they were using and was not happy. They did use a different plumber. After the hot water heater was installed, the foam insulation that they used on the pipes began coming apart and falling off. They used the wrong size foam insulation. The work was failed by our local plumbing inspector and the plumber had to come back to make the corrections. They added insulation in our attic and foam insulation wherever there was pipe that went through a wall and replaced our outside dryer vent. Just recently, we received a letter from The Insulation Group which included the construction permit they applied for to do the work in our house. The letter stated that "in order to close out this permit, you need to call your Township and schedule the inspector to come out to do a final inspection." My husband went to our city construction office with the letter and was told that the final inspection had been done and it was The Insulation Group's responsibility to check with the city, not ours.
