1) The installation dragged out longer than expected. I signed purchase (not lease) contract in early December 2015 and was expecting it to be done in March. Instead, it was done in the end of April. I didn't receive any status updates unless when I inquired. While I understand the permit process could be out of their control, better communication would had been helpful.
2) The installers are not from George J Kellers & Sons. The contracted the actual installation to someone else. I am neutral about their work. I found nails on the driveway, and I said to the head person please be careful not to leave any nails since I have a baby running around outside. I had to pick up more nails in the afternoon myself. They were ok, not great, not bad.
My dealings with GJK after installation has been smooth. They scheduled inspection, and informed me when the meter will be replaced by the utility company. GJK's meter (tied to the solar control panel) broke, and they promptly ordered a new one (although not yet arrived). I rate them A overall.
As far as how did it go: Fantastic. The work was performed flawlessly, the same as the initial install and the workmanship was absolutely beyond reproach. The only thing I needed to to was to temporarily remove a fence and gate that I had installed after the initial install, and that was at my request as I had done the fence. The employees of Keller, better described as craftsmen, worked around my fence supports and, while I didn't think this possible, actually improved the appearance from the initial install which was excellent to begin with.

Start of project was a little slow, communication via email and/or telephone is terrible.
Initiated credit processing with bank; however, their office never fulfilled their end to complete the transaction, they responded that one of their personnel needed to be released and paperwork was never fulfilled, leading us to re-apply for the loan for the second time.
Miscommunication with layout of solar panels with on-site team, correct same with no further discrepancies, ensure work is according to what is discuss over the table.
Roofing and Gutters were done very well.
After installation of solar panels, received detailes by Dan of someone coming over to the house to takes us step by step with the solar panel software setup and use, never happen... Dan if you're reading this, very unhappy, gave you plenty of time and benefit of the doubt.
Interesting after all this I get a final bill of 85.00, for referring someone, mismanagement of my account, and not following thru with final solar panel services.
"This work was done when we have a different project manager for roofing and solar. Both project managers are no longer with the company and the job has been taken over by the owner of the company, Dan Keller. This change occurred after [Member Name Removed]'s project. Dan spoke to [Member Name Removed] in August and apologized for the instances he wrote about. He accepted our apology and has since referred neighbors to us."
We started to see leaks in our chimney, culminating with damage to the ceiling in our living room. I immediately contacted George Keller and Sons. I explained that we had an issue and he sent someone out to inspect. He informed us that we had no flashing installed around both of our chimneys. I looked it up online and learned that FLASHING is a CRITICAL component to keep the roof waterproof. I asked GK&S why FLASHING was not installed with the new roof. I was told by GK&S that flashing was "not in my contract". They then sent me a contract/estimate for $2500 to install the flashing that should have been installed the first go around.
This happened several years ago, and I finally found a roofer willing to repair this work. When i was pricing this out to several other roofers, they were all very surprised that flashing was not included and stated that it is part of a normal roof install.
Upon installing the new vinyl siding their crew did damage without advising us. We discovered they broke a radon pipe, damaged flashing around our sunroom, and damaged the surface of our deck. One of the "sons" was aggressive and argumentative when we brought all this to their attention. They begrudging did the repairs. It was only a year later we were told by a radon specialist that they re-installed the fan upside down, so our system was not functioning properly all that time.
When we then also needed Sandy damage repaired, we reluctantly went back to the them. After 5 months and over 6 broken install dates and 30 emails they finally came out. This after they had started and completed 2 other jobs on our street during that 5 months.
We could never us them again.
"We highly recommend to all of our customers that have skylights to replace them at the same time as the roof. The original estimate that we provided to the homeowner had a price to replace the skylights. When the homeowner moved to contract they decided not to replace the skylights even though we highly recommended that they be replaced. The explanation they gave to us as to why they did not want to replace the skylights was they wanted to keep the price down since they were selling the home. After the roof was completed the homeowner notified us of a leak in one of the skylights. We attempted to make a repair twice to the skylight but it did not work. We then offered to replace the skylights without paying labor cost to do the work. The homeowner only paid for the cost of the skylight material. Once the skylights were replaced, the leak stopped immediately. The homeowner did have an ice dam over this past winter, but this was not due to the installation of the shingles or skylights. The reason for the ice dam was due to ventilation and insulation issue. We offered to remove the ice and snow from the roof but the homeowner declined this work. We do not guarantee against ice damming, nor does the manufacturer of the ice and water shield. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to keep these areas of the roof free of ice and snow to prevent ice dams from occurring."
