Several weeks after the installation the unit didn't work and they sent out someone immediately who identified the problem (float was being blocked by power cord that became unsecured when the cover was replaced). They explained how to identify/fix problems with the float in the future and didn't leave until they were sure it was working properly. No charge for the 2nd visit.
Their price for the replacement was higher than the last time it was replaced a few years ago but I did some research and they put in a top of the line unit. Overall I would say they are worth a bit more because they were knowledgeable, professional and stood behind their work.
Last winter I called A. Bailey Plumbing and Heating to fix a pipe in our garage that burst. That was our fault for not properly preparing the garage pipe and spigot for winter.
The technician came to our house very quick, which is normal from A. Bailey. He fixed the pipe and even bent the leading pipe from inside the house to the spigot to help with the draining of water. That was nice of him.
Before he left he gave me instructions to leave the valve open on the spigot outside the house to let water drain out. Then to turn off the valve inside the garage and then inside the house. That way there is no more water reaching that spigot. And that way any remaining water with drain out and the pipe will not burst because there is room for expansion and contracting without breaking.
The technician left the house with the inside pipes closed and the outside spigot open, as he told me to do.
Not long after the same pipe burst.
After much back and forth with the technician, they finally fixed their poorly done fix at no charge.
Now it's over a year later. This past winter we prepared the pipe as instructed. There was no burst during the winter.
It's not spring and we went to open everything up to use the hose. As soon as water touched that pipe, it burst. This time the burst was on the pipe they installed in place of the original 2 that broke.
We called because it's the 2nd time their fix didn't work. After much back and forth I was told "I was being negligent" for not preparing the pipe for winter, although I did exactly as told.
The technician said multiple times that I need to keep the valve open outside. Even though I kept telling him it was open. In fact, it's still open. It hasn't been touched since he "fixed it" last time.
All I did this season was open the inside valves to let water out.
So this technician from A. Bailey Plumbing and Heating basically called me a liar and negligent and refused to fix their poor craftsmanship.
Once I said I will be leaving a negative review and notifying the BBB the technician hung up on me.
So let this be a warning to all in New Jersey. A. Bailey Plumbing and Heating might be quick to respond, and they might have decent pricing. But avoid their bad business practices and poor "fixes" at all costs.
Sorry to have to share this, but I've had enough back and forth with them.
Review: Called A Bailey Plumbing for a water loss in my house. It happened on a Saturday. The service person came, did not find anything wrong with the equipment in the house and said it was the well pump. Price $2500-$3000. For a couple days we were living without water. Monday called another company for a second opinion (lucky!) and sure enough it was the electrical box. The one the AB technician said was fine...It took 10 min to fix it. Still had to pay A Bailey almost $100 for the service call plus gas and mileage.Even though they completely misdiagnosed the problem and it could of cost us all the money to put a new pump in which still would not work. We called the company to discuss the situation ,but did not receive a call back. Would not recommend THIS kind of service to anyone!
I think that A. Bailey is on the expensive side, but I have used them over the 19 years I have been in my house and never had any complaints about the quality of their work. All of the work I have ever required has been minor, e.g. sump pumps and clearing of clogged pipes/snaking, so I can not honestly report on their performance for major jobs. But I have always been, notwithstanding the price, satisfied with the jobs they have done on my property.
Update 02/16/13
They did not reveal all the costs before they came, it took them 15 minutes to do the job, he left a mess in the basement behind. It was $300 including the $30 coupon from Angie's List.
Con; Unfortunately, new sweated joint leak, caused immediate return.
