EXCELLENT SERVICE from the quote on Monday 3/2 to completed project on 3/5. I am extremely pleased with the replacement of my 20 year old Bryant HVAC system. The technicians were very professional, did a complete clean-up following the installation, answered all of my questions and went through what I had to do for the system to run efficiently. Very fair pricing for the units and installation. They arrived at 7:30am and the job was completed at 3:00pm. I would highly recommend Residential Air Systems, Fairfield, NJ for all residential HVAC needs.

Office staff were very nice. The technician Devin, sent a text with his picture, that he was on the way, which was helpful. I think they squeezed me in! He ruled out a very expensive problem I feared; that it was the coil. He identified and fixed a simpler problem. All for a reasonable fee.

A lot of companies can install a system but their true worth is when there is a problem and their commitment to follow through, no matter what to solve it even if they take a loss on the install. That is what happen with my install. After my AC system was installed I had a problem with it freezing up. They came out to inspect it made some adjustments, stayed for some time to make sure it was cycling correctly and all was fine. A few days later it froze again and seem to have some relation to the outside temp. They came back and tested the coil, found it defected and replaced it. It worked well for awhile but started to freeze up. Now we are all saying "what is going on." I live in a condo, so much of the supply lines are not assessable and they use a device that will detect leaks but they need to follow the line with the device. They are crawling through the attic space on their stomachs to do testing. They drained the coolant, retested the integrity of the system refilled the coolant, etc. The system was not leaking, and every test of every component checked out okay. All this was done over many visits and the manufacture was also involved. At this point with all the manpower put in, they were taking a financial loss. Ed, the owner would not give up and at a hunch decided to replace the outside compressor unit. Even though it tested okay he spent his company's time and money to get the distributor to open up on the weekend, picked up a new compressor and got his employees to replace it. What is the chance of having both components, from two different manufactures, to have a manufacturing defect? That is exactly what happened! Any other company would of walked away and ofter a refund but RAS cared about their customer and wanted to make it right no matter what it cost. Thank you to the owner Ed and also to Steve. I don't know Steve's title but he is an important part of RAS and very skilled and knowledgeable.

My CAS which was 25 years old developed a leak in the condensation pan which in turn flooded a bedroom as the system was located in the attic. I contacted several pros from Angie's List and received 2 estimates , I needed the installation as soon as possible and Ed from RAS was able to fit me in by juggling his schedule. I truly needed the work completed asap as I have COPD and need the ac during this brutal weather, he understood my dilemma and quickly made the appt., all this while he was undergoing problems of his own as his business had flooded and he was dealing with that issue. Vicky from his office was able to get a permit from the City quickly as the weekend was approaching. Monday morning @ 7:30 the crew arrived and went to work. I was amazed as the 3 techs worked as a well oiled machine and began the job. I was quite amazed as they had the system complete and running by around 3:00!!!!!! Ed should truly be proud of his staff as they all were professional, courteous, and pleasant. Thank you Team RAS, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND them to anyone needing their service!!. I would definitely hire them again for any project I may need.

Installation was completed in one day. Subsequently we had several intermittent "no heat" issues in the mornings after programmed thermostat's overnight temperature setbacks. In each instance, Residential Air's response was immediate. Despite troubleshooting attempts and a replaced control board, the problem persisted. Two manfacturer's representatives were also called in to check out the system. Ultimately the culprit was identified as low gas pressure from the utility at times of high neighborhood demand in the mornings. This triggered the furnace's safety lockout due to insufficient gas pressure. The gas utility was called in to replace the old meter with a higher cubic feet-per-minute rating. There has been no further problem since the new meter was installed.

I was impressed. I had done research and contacted other contractors. There were a couple others that I think would have done a very good job, but I'm very happy I chose to work with Ed's team. Though overall cost was a factor, it was not the primary reason for my decision. All my research indicated proper installation was most important. So I was looking for someone who was professional, very knowledgeable, responsive, and provided solutions to my problems… at a fair price. Ed solved my duct work issue, made a separate visit to answer final questions & find the best placement for the furnace's direct vent (to meet code requirements & maintain home's aesthetic), and answered MANY detailed questions thoroughly, giving me confidence in his ability. Bottom line, I felt very comfortable with him and he was able to do all aspects of my project. (For example, some contractors did not install chimney liners themselves)… And he did it all for a very reasonable cost. On project day, the team arrived on time & started organizing the workflow immediately. They were respectful of minimizing traffic throughout the house, and left it clean when they left. There were probably 6-10 people there at any time, some arriving intermittently to work on a specialized, smaller part of the job. The work felt well orchestrated. There was a supervising technician on site, but Ed came by to ensure everything was going as planned, answer questions, etc. Everyone worked together well, helping out where needed. There was sufficient communication with me, but they basically worked without interruption. I was fortunate to schedule my project before the busy season picked up, so the work was done in 1 day, instead of potentially running into a 2nd day. The operation of the system was explained to me before they left; all the product manuals I needed was placed organized with the unit. Another plus, Ed’s office will be registering the products for warranty & helping pull together the info needed to complete an energy rebate application. Overall this was a very positive experience... I would absolutely work with Ed again.

Residential Air installed two ACs systems at our house 3 years ago and have been maintaining them over the past three years. They have always done a highly professional job and have provided superior service during that time including responding in a timely manner to unforeseen mechanical problems or equipment failure. We just signed them up to provide boiler service as well due to their superior AC service.

I meet with over 10 different companies to find the right company to install the central air into a house I was renovating most of the companies had no clue how to do the job in a house with everything open and new. Ed was the last person I meet with he was very knowledgeable and came up with the best plan for doing the job. He was also one of the few to do the math for the heat loss instead of guessing. When he left I told my wife as long as his price was close to all the other we were hiring Residential Air.  The price beat all the others by almost $2000.  Their workers were very professional and did a great job installing all the duct work. overall I was very happy with their work.

As one would expect, this was not a quick job, but the team was thorough and did the work right and the outcome is great. The high velocity system is unobtrusive, just small outlets in the ceilings, and the ductwork was all woven through the closets with minimal impact to available storage. We had to open one wall in an upstairs bedroom to run ductwork from the attic to the first floor, but that work and repair was included as part of the original estimate, so there were no surprises. The systems works like a charm and we're very satisfied with the result.

Steve was our contact person and he was very accomodating. They performed in about 5 days just like he said they would. We had very little space available in our 100+ year old house so Steve came up with a creative solution so we would not have a lot of exposed ductwork ruining the character of the home. The system works great and Steve even came back twice to do some small adjustments to the system to fit my finicky needs.

The good news: they found and fixed the problem by replacing a capacitor, which was about the size of a coke can and connects to the unit by a couple wires.
The bad news: it cost: $585.
Sorry, it just doesn't make sense [to me] that this part costs $370. On top of $160 labor.

The quality of work was fine, the price was not. I'll try someone else next time.

I met with the owner for the initial consultation and estimate. Ed was both professional and knowledgeable. He was confident in his product and was not a pushy sales guy--which I greatly appreciated. They worked with the town to get my permits which was a bit of an issue this time around but were helpful in the process.
Install took 4 days. The crew was on time each day and did a pretty good job of keeping my home clean while they were there. Ed and his crew were happy to answer questions and willing to do the things I needed done to make me happy (I needed to make a few changes after my initial contract was signed and they were fair and helpful in the process).
Overall the equipment and products used and installed are top notch and I am confident I will be ready for even 100 degree days this summer.

Ed Mann and his team are consummate professionals. They worked efficiently and hard to get the job done right with minimal impact on our daily routine, and when a couple of minor items required remediation (e.g. ding in the hardwood floor) they were both very apologetic and sent someone immediately to correct it. This fact speaks to how great they are at establishing and maintaining great relationships - it extends past the customers to their colleagues, and is the mark of a professional who truly understands that and quot;serviceand quot; is a 360-degree concept.
This was the second time we'd worked with Residential Air -- they overhauled our HVAC system and saved us a bundle in the process by coming up with creative options that were right sized for our heating/cooling space AND our budget -- and we'll keep going back and recommending them to others.

The installation went very well The men were on time, very professional and extremely nice. They were suppose to install an attic fan at the same time which did not happen for various reasons. The owner was in touch with me after a few phone calls and the fan was installed at a later time. Give all these guys a lot of credit considering the very and quot;HOTand quot; conditions they work in. GREAT JOB

Steven Hernandez and his team did a top job for us. Steven was very professional during the entire process, the heating and A/C works perfectly and they really tidied up the ducts in the basement and it all looks very good. The persons working in our house were very nice and cleaned the house nicely up to the weekend even if they had to continue working on the following Monday,

Job performance could be considered average:

Positive
  1. Ed Mann and his guys are easy to get along with and explain as much as they can.
  2. RAS crew was on time and were professional

Negatives (for the job)
  1. Emergency shutoff switch was put directly above filter slot
  2. Original placement of gas and exhaust pipe in contact with each other (was fixed prior to inspection)
  3. Did not have fuse for condenser (was fixed prior to inspection)
  4. Did not move electrical receptacle closer to condenser
  5. Inspection of electrical failed.
RAS as of this report has yet to fix the electrical issues associated with the inspection failure on 02/15/2012. Electrical issues were fixed and inspection passed on 03/06/2012.

I have worked with them for years, a couple years ago I purchased my second furnace from them, so I was familiar with their reputation and quality of work. This last time they came within 4 hrs of my initial call. They performed the service needed quickly and efficiently. I was very happy with their service when they finished.
