So we never called anyone else for estimates or advise, that was our biggest mistake.
When one of their reps came out to give me a quote, he was dealing with a room he couldn't see because their was a wall up that needed to be opened. But they had the size of the room and the scale of the job figured out. And John from Ming Da still gave me a quote of $3300.00...Which I agreed to over the phone.
After they cut open the wall, they were able to go in and let me know that installation was not needed, Central Air and Heating Ducts were already there. The only thing that was missing was electricity. And that will cost me another $750.00 to which I also agreed too.
But while the work was being done, I asked about paint colors and base moulding, and to my surprise-- John tells me I would not be getting them because that's not in the contract. I reminded him of our convo and all he can say was READ THE CONTRACT!!!
YES, the contract states the job does not include moldings, electricity or installation. (they did install moulding around the window, go figure)
BUT, the contract says.....JOB TO BE FINISHED TO PAINTING PREPARATIONS. Which I misunderstood.
The sad part to all this is---John would not even offer to do the base moulding or painting for an extra charge.I have no problem with paying extra money, I was just utterly shocked when I was spoken to in that manner.
I did reach out to the owner of the company and expressed my feeling...He also did nothing about it.
I'm a trusting person, and was mislead by thee most UNPROFESSIONAL company with zero customer service.
So I had to hire Painters to come and finish their job. Which costed me even more because they had to spend a day sanding down the uneven walls.
When I first began planning to remodel the kitchen, I went to a few cabinet dealers who said that we needed to bring in measurements and then a designer at their store will show, on a computer, how the cabinets will look in the room. This got me nervous because if our measurements were the slightest bit off, there would be a major problem. Also, I'd be sent to a different dealer to pick out floors and another one to pick out tiles and the whole thing became very confusing.
Then, even though they had an ad in many newspapers that looked too good to be true, we went to Ming Da Kitchen and learned that everything they offered in the ad would, in fact, be supplied by Ming Da. You could choose any granite you wanted in their large selection and there was no additional charge for any of them.
We soon began working with Johnson Ma. He is an amazingly caring man and I know that he treated our family's job in the same way he would perform work for his own family. They have only the best quality products in their showroom. And after John showed us all the cabinets and their features, he demonstrated such knowledge of all the materials, by the time we met at the Raritan, NJ showroom, where he demonstrated how adept he was at decorating, when it came time to picking things, I would just ask John to pick the floors and the tiles, and the sink, etc. My husband and I both liked everything he suggested.
Each day two men showed up at the house and quietly and cleanly began the expert work that needed to be done that day. At the end of most days, John came to check everything. And if I ever had a question, I texted him or called him and he answered immediately. At the end of the project Sam Wu, who was a very lovely man, came to see what was done and we told him how pleased we were with everything, and how we wished we could have Ming Da build us a whole new house from the ground up.
I found Mind Da on Angie's List after I saw an ad in a local newspaper. I had been actively researching my kitchen remodel for about 6 weeks by the time I went to Ming Da. I had visited granite yards, explored kitchen cabinets, faucets, sinks, appliances and disposals.
I went to the showroom and met with Johnson. I already had a pretty solid kitchen layout design I put together. Ming Da had a nice variety of cabinets, countertops and flooring to meet my needs. I thought the solid wood and stone quality was great and the price was fantastic. I had gotten 3 other quotes that were approximately $15K higher than Ming Da.
Johnson came to my house in the next days and measured the kitchen to make an exact drawing. My husband and I went back to the showroom a few days later and picked the exact cabinets, backsplash and counters. Since all of the items were in stock, they were able to start the project quickly. We also had purchased our appliances.
Johnson and his crew were on-time and worked fast. We had our kitchen complete in a matter of weeks. Ming Da was responsive and Johnson answered any questions that I had, big or small. His crew answered questions along the way and always asked my opinion. For instance, when it came time to grout the floor tiles, they told me they were unsure I was going to like the grout they had. It was true, I wanted a darker grout, so I had the opportunity to fix this before they installed. That really saved me a headache!
Johnson ensured us that even though some days it didn't look like a lot of work was getting done, it actually was and that was apparent in the end product.
We are thrilled with our new kitchen. It looks amazing! We've already had many people ask us who did the work and we gladly recommend Ming Da!
The only thing we didn't factor into the budget was that we had to have the granite counters sealed, which cost us an extra thousand dollars.
The first day they showed up exactly when they said they would, gutted the whole kitchen and started rough electric. The second day, they laid the tile and completed electric. The third day, they finished tile and installed wainscoating (special part of our project). The fourth day, they started painting (we supplied paint) and started cabinet installation. The fifth day, more cabinet installation, dishwasher installation, pendant lighting installation (we supplied pendant lights) and painting. On the sixth day, they finished the cabinet installation, put backsplash up, completed plumbing and moved stove and refrigerator back into kitchen.
When the project was done, Same Wu came to our house to check the work, spoke to us and made sure we were happy with the work performed. We were very happy.
You will probably have to do some cleaning after your project. That was the only single/minor complaint; not a big deal. There was also just a slight language barrier; not a big deal.
Lastly, make sure that before they start your project, you know and tell Sam exactly what you want. We did this and everything went really smooth. You can always make minor changes along the way.
"The Report is a set of complete false statements without ground. 1.There are Contradictions in the Report: "Work Complete Date:February 01,2010". VS "Nothing was done on the project". Those 2 statements are contradicted each other themselves. 2.The company's policy only allows $1000 USD to be paid as down payment on singning the contract. The company never asks for "put down money half of the total price of the kitchen renovation". 3.If somebody cashed your check and nothing was done on the project, the company suggests you to file a report to Department of Police for fraud. 4.If you still have the problem with your project, please contact us via phone 973 808 8388 or e mail "[email protected]" or let us know your phone number. We would like to clear your concerns as soon as possible."
