In 8 rather hectic days, all the work was done except finish details. The final result was very, very good. Not quite "This Old House", but extraordinary for the cost. I should mention that communication with the workmen was sometimes difficult since many spoke only Chinese. Would I use Mingda again? Definitely!

Very well. We never could have imagined that our old kitchen would be transformed into updated, modern masterpiece. The kitchen remodel, along with construction related to three walls has dramatically changed our home. We are so happy with the outcome of the project. The quality, workmanship, and professionalism of the entire crew was top notch. We are really pleased that we chose Ming Da to perform this project and would highly recommend them.

They did the job within the time specified. John was very quick to respond even though he doesn't visit the site everyday. He gives good suggestions. The only thing was to communicate with the people working at the site but that was not an issue. They could understand the actions and John was always there to communicate and propagate the work over the phone. Everything went on well except some issues with the kitchen sink and one of the cabinet doors. But they got fixed later.

Ming Da was recommended to us from another contractor.
So we never called anyone else for estimates or advise, that was our biggest mistake.
When one of their reps came out to give me a quote, he was dealing with a room he couldn't see because their was a wall up that needed to be opened. But they had the size of the room and the scale of the job figured out. And  John from Ming Da still gave me a quote of $3300.00...Which I agreed to over the phone.
After they cut open the wall, they were able to go in and let me know that installation was not needed, Central Air and Heating Ducts were already there. The only thing that was missing was electricity.  And that will cost me another $750.00 to which I also agreed too.
But while the work was being done, I asked about paint colors and base moulding, and to my surprise-- John tells me I would not be getting them because that's not in the contract. I reminded him of our convo and all he can say was READ THE CONTRACT!!!
YES, the contract states the job does not include moldings, electricity or installation. (they did install moulding around the window, go figure)
BUT, the contract says.....JOB TO BE FINISHED TO PAINTING PREPARATIONS. Which I misunderstood.
The sad part to all this is---John would not even offer to do the base moulding or painting for an extra charge.I have no problem with paying extra money, I was just utterly shocked when I was spoken to in that manner.
I did reach out to the owner of the company and expressed my feeling...He also did nothing about it.
I'm a trusting person, and was mislead by thee most UNPROFESSIONAL company with zero customer service.
So I had to hire Painters to come and finish their job. Which costed me even more because they had to spend a day sanding down the uneven walls.

Actual remodel went well but several months we noticed issues with the quality of the wood and some of the work.

When I first began planning to remodel the kitchen, I went to a few cabinet dealers who said that we needed to bring in measurements and then a designer at their store will show, on a computer, how the cabinets will look in the room. This got me nervous because if our measurements were the slightest bit off, there would be a major problem. Also, I'd be sent to a different dealer to pick out floors and another one to pick out tiles and the whole thing became very confusing.

Then, even though they had an ad in many newspapers that looked too good to be true, we went to Ming Da Kitchen and learned that everything they offered in the ad would, in fact, be supplied by Ming Da. You could choose any granite you wanted in their large selection and there was no additional charge for any of them.

We soon began working with Johnson Ma. He is an amazingly caring man and I know that he treated our family's job in the same way he would perform work for his own family. They have only the best quality products in their showroom. And after John showed us all the cabinets and their features, he demonstrated such knowledge of all the materials, by the time we met at the Raritan, NJ showroom, where he demonstrated how adept he was at decorating, when it came time to picking things, I would just ask John to pick the floors and the tiles, and the sink, etc. My husband and I both liked everything he suggested.

Each day two men showed up at the house and quietly and cleanly began the expert work that needed to be done that day. At the end of most days, John came to check everything. And if I ever had a question, I texted him or called him and he answered immediately. At the end of the project Sam Wu, who was a very lovely man, came to see what was done and we told him how pleased we were with everything, and how we wished we could have Ming Da build us a whole new house from the ground up.

The supervisor was not always there on site. The workers were always here. Overall, the job came out fantastic. Sometimes they made good suggestions. They did have some questions; I work from home, so I was able to answer the questions. Putting in a kitchen is a little stressful. They did it in six days. The draw back was communication and the supervisor not always being there.

It went far quicker than with a traditional contractor. They have a limited selection with big discounts and that's where you save $$ also his own workers for most anything. They are mostly Chinese so language can be a problem but they are hard working and diligent workers, honest as well.My suggestions are to be careful with your plan and go over everything before you actually begin to be sure any changes you want have been included in his as well. That was my mistake and some things got left out, but it all worked out ok. I got all that done in about 3 weeks believe it or not. Everyone who comes in comments on my gorgeous kitchen.

This was our first renovation in our new home and it was great!
I found Mind Da on Angie's List after I saw an ad in a local newspaper. I had been actively researching my kitchen remodel for about 6 weeks by the time I went to Ming Da. I had visited granite yards, explored kitchen cabinets, faucets, sinks, appliances and disposals.
I went to the showroom and met with Johnson. I already had a pretty solid kitchen layout design I put together. Ming Da had a nice variety of cabinets, countertops and flooring to meet my needs. I thought the solid wood and stone quality was great and the price was fantastic. I had gotten 3 other quotes that were approximately $15K higher than Ming Da.
Johnson came to my house in the next days and measured the kitchen to make an exact drawing. My husband and I went back to the showroom a few days later and picked the exact cabinets, backsplash and counters. Since all of the items were in stock, they were able to start the project quickly. We also had purchased our appliances.
Johnson and his crew were on-time and worked fast. We had our kitchen complete in a matter of weeks. Ming Da was responsive and Johnson answered any questions that I had, big or small. His crew answered questions along the way and always asked my opinion. For instance, when it came time to grout the floor tiles, they told me they were unsure I was going to like the grout they had. It was true, I wanted a darker grout, so I had the opportunity to fix this before they installed. That really saved me a headache!
Johnson ensured us that even though some days it didn't look like a lot of work was getting done, it actually was and that was apparent in the end product.
We are thrilled with our new kitchen. It looks amazing! We've already had many people ask us who did the work and we gladly recommend Ming Da!
The only thing we didn't factor into the budget was that we had to have the granite counters sealed, which cost us an extra thousand dollars.

First, I have to say this was the best construction experience we have ever had. The whole process lasted only 6 days.

The first day they showed up exactly when they said they would, gutted the whole kitchen and started rough electric. The second day, they laid the tile and completed electric. The third day, they finished tile and installed wainscoating (special part of our project). The fourth day, they started painting (we supplied paint) and started cabinet installation. The fifth day, more cabinet installation, dishwasher installation, pendant lighting installation (we supplied pendant lights) and painting. On the sixth day, they finished the cabinet installation, put backsplash up, completed plumbing and moved stove and refrigerator back into kitchen.

When the project was done, Same Wu came to our house to check the work, spoke to us and made sure we were happy with the work performed. We were very happy.

You will probably have to do some cleaning after your project. That was the only single/minor complaint; not a big deal. There was also just a slight language barrier; not a big deal.

Lastly, make sure that before they start your project, you know and tell Sam exactly what you want. We did this and everything went really smooth. You can always make minor changes along the way.

We contacted Sam Wu (manager) through a friend who also had bathroom and kitchen remodeling done. A day or two later, Sam came and gave a $15000 esitmate (we added install of a new exhaust fan and replacement of another later in the job) and stated that would include everything except lighting and paint (and other finishing accessories). He then invited us to come to his showroom in Fairfield to look at his materials. A week or two later, we went to his showroom and ended up signing the contract (with a $2K deposit and 30% due at start of work) and selecting all our finish materials. He started demolition the next day and estimated one week to complete the job (two bathrooms in tandem). He and his crew arrived a little late from another job but started work immediately. Demolition took 3 days instead of the estimated 1. Work on the first bathroom proceeded quickly but we ran into snags later. One tile was out of stock delaying work in the second bathroom. As per the contract, we paid another installment after work in the first bathroom was complete (and second was still in progress). At this point, I received a number of reasons the work would be delayed (during the time flooding was happening around the warehouse) and it extended out to 3 weeks to complete. Luckily, my friend had a good business relationship with Sam and got him back to finish the job ahead of what he had told me. His crew was very professional while in our home and Sam addressed all the issues I brought up. In the end, we are very happy with the work and especially the price. I do have note, the painting was not great, but it will do for the small space. Sam did help us put together some great tile and other finish pieces. I recommend negotiating a larger percent of the project cost be paid and the completion of the project (especially if the project length is so short).

Put down money half of the total price of the kitchen renovation. He cashed the check, and never picks up my phone calls.... Nothing was done on the project
Response from Ming Da International / Ming Da Kitchen LLC
"The Report is a set of complete false statements without ground. 1.There are Contradictions in the Report: "Work Complete Date:February 01,2010". VS "Nothing was done on the project". Those 2 statements are contradicted each other themselves. 2.The company's policy only allows $1000 USD to be paid as down payment on singning the contract. The company never asks for "put down money half of the total price of the kitchen renovation". 3.If somebody cashed your check and nothing was done on the project, the company suggests you to file a report to Department of Police for fraud. 4.If you still have the problem with your project, please contact us via phone 973 808 8388 or e mail "[email protected]" or let us know your phone number. We would like to clear your concerns as soon as possible."

The first day of work they came late 4h because the crew was tied up with an unfinished project. However, they did show-up at about 2:30pm with a crew of 5-6 men. They demolished the whole kitchen down to bare floor and all debris was taken away in about 3h. On the 2nd day, with a crew of 2, they prepared the wall with patching holes and prepared the floor with cement boards and covered with ceramic tiles. On the 3rd day, they finished the floor with grout. In the afternoon, new cabinets, counters had been shipped to my residence and all cabinets had been installed on the wall including enclosed cabinet for the refrigerator. On the 4th day, they completed installation of all counters, counter-tops and cabinets including doors, drawers, handles, sink, drain pipe and faucet. On the last day, they completed the work with ceramic back-splash, caulking, molding and cleaning. They did leave 4-5 pieces of spare ceramic tiles of each type w/o my asking.

Everything went well. There was a slight glitch concerning the granite as I wanted a specific granite and offered to source it myself. I was given certain size specs which I followed. But at time of installation, I was told the material was not the right size. But since it was their fault, they asked me to resupply the correct size and gave me a credit for the earlier supply. Given a choice, I would use my own plumber, even if it might cost somewhat more. I used their electrician as well who did an excellent job. I had the town inspect everything, so everything had to be to code. They worked very fast and efficiently. I think I got outstanding value for what I spent. Other contractors quotes were way higher, some in the 30,000 range.

The Ming Da crew worked hard and fast. They arrive on time, take very little time for breaks, and work through the day. They tackle a problem until they have it solved. Their work is thorough and professional. When they came to provide an estimate, they also gave us excellent ideas on how to improve upon the layout of both kitchens and baths. They invited us to their showroom in Fairfield when one can choose from a wide variety of materials, materials that are most popular. The choices were excellent. After agreeing to the contract, they were ready to work within a few days. Their speed was only matched by their workmanship. We did have a problem with the painting that had been done in the kitchen. When we mentioned this to the owner-manager Sam, he immediately told the workers it would have be redone. There was no haggling, no objection on his part. Instead he did not hesitate to tell his workers that it would be redone and redone corrrectly, Overall though, whatever was done, was done well. We would not hesitate to use them again.
