HORRIBLE COMPANY --- STAY AWAY!
Response from Hilltop Fuel Heating & Air Conditioning

"We have been working with this 80 year young lady for approx. 10 years now. Unfortunately there is no nice way to say that their oil bills are never paid on time and the last time their account has a ZERO balance was in 2010. We have put them on a budget to make it easier for them but still they can not keep up. Every time someone calls we try to accommodate them as much as possible, we ask to just pay "something on the account." We should not have to beg for a payment. We find it funny that once we state over and over again that we can not deliver until a payment is made on the account all of a sudden they mysteriously come up with a payment. Most energy companies would have stopped doing business with them. We have never left someone with out heat, unless their account is not current and even then we work something out. In this world when you need something, YOU MUST PAY FOR IT! We have never delivered home heating oil to anyone that does not need it. It does not benefit us to do that. As far as repairs, if we hadn't done the repair she would not have had any heat AT ALL! Our credit manager is not rude, he is just doing his job. We all know that in most companies the credit manager is the most hated person because they have the pleasure of calling customers refusing to pay for what they use. No one ever wants to get that phone call. As far as making a buck on the elderly, we are insulted by that statement. We have had many elderly customers send us letters praising us and even just stopping by our office to say "Hello" because they know that when they deal with us they are getting honest people that will look after them."

Went fine and oil burner was working . I had a service contract with them. They are a little expensive. Only problem I had was is they do not like you to convert to gas and say oil is better. Personally I like gas and should have done it sooner.

Prompt service and punctual. Technician Rashaan checked everything over, reviewed the cost of service and upon approval, completed service promptly. He took the time to answer several questions I had on a couple of unrelated items.
This company is the best.  Another technician named Pat that has performed the furnace cleaning and other services I also very helpful.  I would recommend Hilltop to anyone.

After a lengthy trip out of state, I returned home to find my hot water ice cold. Since my hot water runs from my oil burner, I called Hilltop. They never told me that if someone came out that night, it would cost me $95, but if that same person came at 8 a.m., it wouldn't cost me anything. If they had told me, I would have opted for the morning. The temperature outside was mild and I had already taken the ice cold shower!! Hilltop sent a repairman who said he couldn't do anything that night and would have to come back during the day. Two days later, a bill arrived for $95 for the nighttime callout. I immediately called and complained about the charge and was told they'd get back to me. This is November 14 and I still haven't had the courtesy of a return phone call about that issue. When I've called them, the answer always is "the owner isn't here" or "we haven't heard back from the owner". The repairman fixed the hot water issue and cleaned the oil burner on that visit. A month later, I found soot spewing from my oil burner. I called Hilltop. They sent out a repairman who spent a great deal of time here but said he'd have to come back for some finishing repair. On Nov 6 after still not receiving any calls about the billing issues, I short-paid the bill for the 1st "plumbing" call, deducting the amount of the nighttime callout. The next repair experience was just as bad. I asked them to call my cell if they'd be late. They didn't. They called my house, which of course did NO good since I was at work. A repairman finally arrived, 1 1/2 hours late, and only after I called and really complained. Today, I have no heat. Apparently the repairman didn't bleed the air out of the lower zone. When I called today, they had the nerve to tell me they wouldn't come out since the bill wasn't paid. They'd be happy to come out if I'd give them a credit card number. When I protested that the bill was paid, I guess they went and looked around. After a few hours, they confirmed they did, in fact, have the check. So, tomorrow they'll come out and finish the job (hopefully). Will I get two more bills? Probably. SHOULD I? Absolutely not. I'm fair game for a fuel oil company who would take advantage of a homeowner who doesn't know anything about oil burners or heating systems, because I don't know anything about how they work. But even I can see that something is not right here. I never had problems (or bills) like this in 25 years with an ancient oil burner and my former fuel oil company. As soon as I have heat, I'm switching companies. This is not an outfit to do business with unless you like a disorganized office staff, an apparently a non-existent owner, and continuous billing hassles.

WE "INHERITED" THIS COMPANY FROM THE PREVIOUS OWNERS OF OUR HOME. THEY USUALLY STOP IN ON A REGULAR BASIS, BUT LAST YEAR THEY DIDN'T AND WE WENT WITHOUT HEAT FOR TWO DAYS. AS FOR THE REST, THEY ARE AN OKAY COMPANY.
