The NJAL (New Jersey Analytical Laboratories) technicians that came to perform the tests on my well water came several hours late. Since I already have an acid neutralizer system installed they took water samples of both the treated and non-treated water for a pH test. According to NJAL the non-treated and treated water had almost the same pH value which was below New Jersey requirements. The NJAL technician checked my acid neutralizer system to make sure it wasn't bypassed which it wasn't. Based on NJAL's pH measurements I called the provider of my acid neutralizer system to have it serviced and make sure it was functioning properly which they did. I then called NJAL to schedule another pH measurement test. They came for an additional fee of $100 (I later found that the price on their website was $90 for a pH retest) and performed a pH test on my treated water. To my surprise the NJAL technician got the same pH reading on the treated water even after my acid neutralizer system was serviced and tested. The NJAL technician tried "some tricks" such as testing warmer water and testing from the faucets both downstairs and upstairs. The measurements were all the same as the original test. I asked the NJAL technician how the pH could be the same even after the system has been serviced and tested. All he could do was say that he couldn't offer an explanation and that he had to leave. Quite upset since my refinancing was on hold I again called the provider of my acid neutralizer system. They sent someone over the next day. He inspected the system and found nothing wrong. To aide in his troubleshooting he took a pH test twice to get a ballpark reading. Both readings indicated that the pH was higher than what NJAL said it was and that my equipment was functioning properly. He suggested that I have the tests performed by another laboratory which I did. This laboratories measurement agreed that the acid neutralizer system was functioning properly and that the treated waters pH range was within New Jersey requirements. This NJDEP certified laboratory promptly provided a report that the treated waters pH met New Jersey requirements. NJAL had also provided reports for both times they came to test but the reports arrived beyond their stated turnaround time. I contacted Mr. Thomas at NJAL and told him what had occurred and requested a refund of my $100 for the second pH test. The response was NJAL does not make mistakes and that the tests performed by my equipment provider and the other NJDEP certified laboratory were invalid and incorrect. He went on to state that a refund was completely out of the question and that I was not allowed to ever contract NJAL's services in the future.
Description of Work: I was in the middle of refinancing my mortgage. I needed a company to perform testing on my well water according to New Jersey well testing requirements. New Jersey Analytical Laboratories said that they would perform the required tests and provide a report that I could send to the underwriters for my mortgage refinancing.
